Acute complete heart block in dogs
A study has been conducted immediately and up to 18 days after the surgical production of complete heart block in dogs. Immediately after surgery cardiac output, coronary flow, and mean arterial pressure were reduced in rough proportion to the degree of bradycardia. In time, these measures began to return toward preoperative levels. Paralleling the diminished left ventricular work was a diminished left ventricular oxygen consumption with little consequent change in myocardial efficiency. Small rises were detected in central venous pressure. At autopsy, the only unequivocal abnormality was myocardial hypertrophy which became measurable between 2 and 18 days after operation
Striatal dopamine D2 receptor binding of risperidone in schizophrenic patients as assessed by 123I-iodobenzamide SPECT: a comparative study with olanzapine
The aim of this investigation was to compare the degree of striatal dopamine-(D2) receptor blockade by two atypical antipsychotic drugs, risperidone and olanzapine. The percentage of D2 receptor occupancy during treatment was calculated by comparing the results of 123I-iodobenzamide SPECT with those from healthy control subjects. Twenty inpatients suffering from schizophrenia or schizoaffective psychosis according to DSM IV/ICD-10 criteria were treated with clinically recommended doses of risperidone and compared with 13 inpatients treated with up to 20 mg olanzapine. Neuroleptic dose and D2 receptor blockade correlated strongly for both risperidone (Pearson r = –0.86, p = 0.0001) and olanzapine (Pearson r = –0.77, p = 0.002). There was no significant difference between the D2 receptor occupancy of the two substances when given in the clinically recommended dose range (unpaired t-test, t= –0.112, p=0.911)

Panoramic optical and near-infrared SETI instrument: prototype design and testing
The Pulsed All-sky Near-infrared Optical Search for ExtraTerrestrial
Intelligence (PANOSETI) is an instrument program that aims to search for fast
transient signals (nano-second to seconds) of artificial or astrophysical
origin. The PANOSETI instrument objective is to sample the entire observable
sky during all observable time at optical and near-infrared wavelengths over
300 - 1650 nm. The PANOSETI instrument is designed with a number of modular
telescope units using Fresnel lenses (0.5m) arranged on two geodesic
domes in order to maximize sky coverage. We present the prototype design
and tests of these modular Fresnel telescope units. This consists of the design
of mechanical components such as the lens mounting and module frame. One of the
most important goals of the modules is to maintain the characteristics of the
Fresnel lens under a variety of operating conditions. We discuss how we account
for a range of operating temperatures, humidity, and module orientations in our
design in order to minimize undesirable changes to our focal length or angular

Sesame eliciting and safe doses in a large sesame allergic population
Background: Sesame is a significant food allergen causing severe and even fatal reactions. Given its increasing prevalence in western diet, sesame is listed as an allergenic food requiring labeling in the United States and EU. However, data on the population reaction doses to sesame are limited.
Methods: All sesame oral food challenges (OFCs), performed either for diagnosis or for threshold identification before the beginning of sesame oral immunotherapy (OIT) between November 2011 and July 2021 in Shamir medical center were analyzed for reaction threshold distribution. Safe-dose challenges with 90–120 min intervals were also analyzed.
Results: Two hundred and fifty patients underwent 338 positive OFCs, and additional 158 safe-dose OFCs were performed. The discrete and cumulative protein amounts estimated to elicit an objective reaction in 1% (ED01) of the entire cohort (n = 250) were 0.8 mg (range 0.3–6.3) and 0.7 mg (range 0.1–7.1), respectively, and those for 5% of the population (ED05) were 3.4 mg (range 1.2–20.6) and 4.5 mg (range 1.2–28.8), respectively. Safe-dose OFCs showed similar values of ED01 (0.8, 0.4–7.5 mg) and ED05 (3.4, 1.2–22.9 mg). While doses of ≤1 mg sesame protein elicited oral pruritus in 11.6% of the patients, no objective reaction was documented to this amount in any of the challenges, including safe-dose OFCs.
Conclusions: This study provides data on sesame reaction threshold distribution in the largest population of allergic patients studied, with no right or left censored data, and with validation using a safe-dose OFC. It further supports the current methods for ED determination as appropriate for establishing safety precautions for the food industry
Correlation property of length sequences based on global structure of complete genome
This paper considers three kinds of length sequences of the complete genome.
Detrended fluctuation analysis, spectral analysis, and the mean distance
spanned within time are used to discuss the correlation property of these
sequences. The values of the exponents from these methods of these three kinds
of length sequences of bacteria indicate that the long-range correlations exist
in most of these sequences. The correlation have a rich variety of behaviours
including the presence of anti-correlations. Further more, using the exponent
, it is found that these correlations are all linear (). It is also found that these sequences exhibit noise in some
interval of frequency (). The length of this interval of frequency depends
on the length of the sequence. The shape of the periodogram in exhibits
some periodicity. The period seems to depend on the length and the complexity
