    Seroma: an interesting case report

    Get PDF
A seroma is defined as a sterile accumulation of serum in a circumscribed location in the tissue. Seromas can occur after surgeries, especially those that are extensive or involve significant tissue disruption viz. hernia repairs, plastic surgeries such as breast augmentation or reconstruction, abdominoplasties (tummy tucks)and removal of large intra-abdominal space occupying lesions like huge fibroids/ovarian masses. The literature citing the exact incidence of seromas following removal of large intra-abdominal masses is scant. Seromas at times become severely symptomatic. The best way to prevent a seroma is not to give it any place to form. It's easier said than done. Here is an interesting case report of postoperative seroma following removal of a large broad ligament fibroid

The polyhalite as a hydrated evaporate mineral that can be used directly as a source of potassic fertilizer. However, research on polyhalite's appropriateness and effectiveness, the present investigation aimed to evaluate the effect of polyhalite on growth, yield attributes, and yield of blackgram variety ADT 5 at Chinnakandiankuppam village, Vriddhachalam, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, during 2021. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design consisting of ten treatments viz., T1 (absolute control), T2 (-K), T3 (12.5 kg K2O ha-1 as muriate of potash (MOP)), T4 (25 kg K2O ha-1as MOP), T5 (37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as MOP), T6 (50 kg K2O ha-1 as MOP), T7 (12.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite),  T8 (25 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite), T9 (37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite), T10 (50 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite). The experiment revealed that the application of 37.5 kg K2O ha-1 as polyhalite (T9) significantly (5%) enhanced the growth attributes (plant height (38.7 cm), number of branches plant-1 (12.97), leaf area index (2.13), number of nodules plant-1 (18.76) and dry matter production (1972 hg ha-1), yield attributes (pod length (8.21 cm), number of pods plant-1 (20.05), number of seeds pod-1 (7.14) and test weight (3.53 g)) and grain yield (1439 kg ha-1), haulm yield (1876 kg ha-1) of blackgram. Thus the study would be helpful to farmers for yield maximization of blackgram through polyhalite as potassic fertilizer.

Simultaneous expression of regulatory genes associated with specific drought‐adaptive traits improves drought adaptation in peanut

    Get PDF
Adaptation of crops to drought-prone rain-fed conditions can be achieved by improving plant traits such as efficient water mining (by superior root characters) and cellular-level tolerance mechanisms. Pyramiding these drought-adaptive traits by simultaneous expression of genes regulating drought-adaptive mechanisms has phenomenal relevance in improving stress tolerance. In this study, we provide evidence that peanut transgenic plants expressing Alfalfa zinc finger 1 (Alfin1), a root growth-associated transcription factor gene, Pennisetum glaucum heat-shock factor (PgHSF4) and Pea DNA helicase (PDH45) involved in protein turnover and protection showed improved tolerance, higher growth and productivity under drought stress conditions. Stable integration of all the transgenes was noticed in transgenic lines. The transgenic lines showed higher root growth, cooler crop canopy air temperature difference (less CCATD) and higher relative water content (RWC) under drought stress. Low proline levels in transgenic lines substantiate the maintenance of higher water status. The survival and recovery of transgenic lines was significantly higher under gradual moisture stress conditions with higher biomass. Transgenic lines also showed significant tolerance to ethrel-induced senescence and methyl viologen-induced oxidative stress. Several stress-responsive genes such as heat-shock proteins (HSPs), RING box protein-1 (RBX1), Aldose reductase, late embryogenesis abundant-5 (LEA5) and proline-rich protein-2 (PRP2), a gene involved in root growth, showed enhanced expression under stress in transgenic lines. Thus, the simultaneous expression of regulatory genes contributing for drought-adaptive traits can improve crop adaptation and productivity under water-limited conditions

Background: Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of common metabolic disorders that share the phenotype of hyperglycemia resulting from defects of reduced insulin secretion, decreased glucose utilization and increase in glucose production. It is estimated that there are currently 285 million people worldwide and this number is set to increase to 438 million by the year 2030. India has the highest number of patients with known diabetes worldwide, with a prevalence of 11.6%. The aim of the study was to evaluate the anti diabetic activity of ethanolic extract of leaves of plant Ocimum sanctum in alloxan induced diabetes in rats. Methods: The study was conducted on 4 groups of 6 rats each to evaluate the hypoglycaemic effect of ethanolic extract of Ocimum sanctum. Glibenclamide was used as a standard drug and the results were compared in reference to it. Tween 80 was given for both normal and diabetic control groups. The fasting blood sugar levels were recorded on 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th days by glucometer. Results: The results indicate that the test compound ethanolic extract of Ocimum sanctum has significant and sustained oral hypoglycaemic activity, comparable with the hypoglycaemic effect of glibenclamide, a sulfonylurea. Conclusion: The hypoglycaemic potential of the test compound is found to be comparable with that of the standard drug glibenclamide

ASIC Implementation of Bit Matrix Multiplier

In computer science and digital electronics, a bit matrix multiplier (BMM) is a mathematical operation that is used to quickly multiply binary matrices. BMM is a basic component of many computer algorithms and is utilized in fields including machine learning, image processing, and cryptography. BMM creates a new matrix that represents the product of the two input matrices by performing logical AND and XOR operations on each matrix element’s binary value. BMM is a crucial method for large-scale matrix operations since it has a lower computational complexity than conventional matrix multiplication. Reduced computational complexity: When compared to conventional matrix multiplication algorithms, BMM has a lower computational complexity since it performs matrix multiplication using bitwise operations like logical AND and XOR. Faster processing speeds are the result, particularly for complex matrix computations. Less memory is needed to store the binary values of the matrices in BMM because these values can be expressed using Boolean logic. As a result, less memory is needed, and the resources can be used more effectively

Pemphigus Vulgaris: Application of Occlusal Soft Splint with Topical Steroid in the Treatment

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a rare autoimmune bullous dermatosis with a high mortality rate if untreated. It is characterized by the binding of IgG autoantibodies to desmogleins 3 (DSG 3), a transmembrane glycoprotein adhesion molecule present on desmosomes. This glycoprotein strengthens the intercellular connection, and loss of this connection due to the antigen-antibody reaction weakens and finally breaks the connection between epithelial cells resulting in blisters and desquamation Patients with PV mainly involving the mucosa have antibodies directed against DSG 3, but patients with PV involving both the skin and mucosa will have antibodies against both DSG 3 and DSG 1. Most patients are initially misdiagnosed and improperly treated for many months or even years. Dental professionals must be sufficiently familiar with the clinical manifestations of PV to ensure early diagnosis and treatment, since this in turn determines the prognosis and course of the disease
