Antiurolithic activity of Berberis trifoliate extract on induced urolithiasis in rats by zinc disc implantation

Background: In clinical therapy, there is no satisfactory drug available for treatment of urolithiasis, especially for the prevention of their recurrence. The aim of this work was to evaluate in vivo antiurolithic activity of methanolic extract of Berberis trifoliata leaves.Material and methods: Urolithiasis was induced in Wistar rats by zinc disc implantation in urinary bladder. Upon postsurgical recovery, different doses of the methanolic extract of B. trifoliata leaves (50, 100 and 150 mg/kg body weight) were administered orally to zinc disc implanted rats for a period of 20 days. Antiurolithiatic activity was evaluated by measuring the difference between the weight of the implanted zinc discs at the time of implantation and the final weight of the dried calculi taken out from the bladder at the end of the 20 days period of treatment.Results: Extract of B. trifoliata significantly reduced calculi deposition around the implanted zinc disc at all doses (50, 100, and 150 mg/kg).Conclusion: Treatment with methanolic extract of B. trifoliata is useful agent against the kidney stone formation.Keywords: Antiurolithic, Berberis trifoliata, urolithiasis, zinc disc implantation

Respuesta de la actividad sexual a la suplementación alimenticia de machos cabríos tratados con días largos, con un manejo extensivo a libre pastoreo

The aim of the present study was to investigate if food supplementation in photoperiodic-treated male goat increases their sexual activity during natural sexual rest period. Two groups of male goat (n=5 each) were placed separately in two herds of female goats grazed under extensive conditions in native pastures (daily from 1000 to 1800). When animals returned from grazing, males were separated from the females and placed in pens near their flock. Both male groups were submitted artificially for 2.5 mo to a long days treatment (16 h light/d) beginning on November 1. Treated group of males was supplemented daily with 1 kg of alfalfa hay (17 % CP) and 300 g of commercial feed concentrate (14 % PC) per animal. Body condition was better in the supplemented than in the control group from the middle January (2.5±0.2 vs 2.1±0.1, respectively) to the end of March (2.8±0.1 vs 2.2±0.2, respectively, P0.05). Finally, in both groups, testicular weight increased from middle December to the end of the study (from 78.0±6 to 124±4 g, in the control group and from 70.7 to 117±9 g, in the supplemented group, respectively). However, in this variable there was neither an interaction group-time, nor an effect of group (P>0.05). The results of this study show that in these conditions, feed supplementation does not increase the sexual response of male goats treated with 2.5 mo of long days under extensive grazing conditions.El objetivo fue evaluar si la suplementación alimenticia incrementa la respuesta sexual de los machos cabríos tratados con 2.5 meses de días largos, durante la estación no reproductiva. Dos grupos de machos (n=5 c/u) fueron integrados separadamente en dos rebaños de cabras pastoreadas extensivamente consumiendo la vegetación local (de 1000 a 1800). Cuando estos machos regresaban del pastoreo, fueron separados de las hembras, puestos cada grupo en un corral contiguo a su rebaño de hembras, y ambos grupos fueron sometidos a 2.5 meses días largos (16 h luz/día) a partir del 1 de noviembre. Un grupo de machos fue suplementado diariamente con 1 kg de heno de alfalfa (17 % PC) y 300 g de concentrado comercial (14 % PC) por día/macho. La condición corporal fue diferente entre el grupo no suplementado y el suplementado a partir del día 15 de enero (2.1±0.1 vs 2.5±0.2, respectivamente, P0.05). En los dos grupos, el peso testicular se incrementó a partir de 15 de diciembre hasta el final del estudio (78±6 a 124±4 g, no suplementado y 70±7 a 117±9 g, suplementado, P>0.05). Los resultados del presente estudio demuestran que, la suplementación alimenticia no incrementa la respuesta sexual de los machos cabríos tratados con 2.5 meses de días largos y explotados extensivamente

Bactericidal effect of silver nanoparticles against propagation of Clavibacter michiganensis infection in Lycopersicon esculentum Mill

El estudio explora el uso de nanoparticulas de plata como bactericida contra Clavibacter michiganensis en jitomate. Se encontró una concentración optima y se puede señalar a estas nanoparticluas como inhibidor de bacterias.This study explored the use of silver nanoparticle as a bactericidal against the propagation of Clavibacter michiganensis onto tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill). In Mexico, tomato production covers about 73% of the total vegetable production but it is affected by outbreak of bacteria canker caused by Clavibacter michiganensis subspecies michiganensis (Cmm). Silver ions possess inhibitor properties, bactericides and high specter antimicrobials. In this study, 6 groups of culture were prepared using 6 different petri dishes where silver nanoparticles of varying concentrations (120, 84, 48, 24, 12 and 0 μg) were added. Furthermore, each group was observed for 20 min, 1, 2, 12 and 24 h. The optimum concentration is 84 μg, which shows an average of 2 Cmm colonies after 20 min. Further increase to 120 μg shows no significant change. However, the average colonies was observed for 48 μg after 1, 2, 12, and 24 h. The obtained results indicate that silver nanoparticles are a promising inhibitor, bactericide and high a specter antimicrobial for treatment or prevention of Cmm

Sistema de soporte para la gestión de la contabilidad de las líneas de trabajo en la Unidad Financiera Institucional de la Universidad de El Salvador

El sistema de soporte será el encargado de llenar el control contable de las 28 líneas de trabajo de la Universidad de El Salvador, tanto de la sede central como de las facultades multidisciplinarias. Con el sistema se logrará agilizar en gran medida el proceso contable de elaboración de partidas contables que serán insumo para otro sistema contable propio de la Unidad Financiera Institucional. El sistema esta desarrollado bajo la plataforma de Java utilizando Server Faces así como Base de Datos Postgres. Todo el trabajo de grado se desarrolló bajo el enfoque de sistemas y una metodología en cascad

Afectaciones en la producción de cerdos en una granja comercial en el noreste de México

ESPAÑOL: Al evaluar la productividad de cerdas de una granja comercial en el noreste de México para el número de parto, solamente se presentó un efecto (P< 0.05) sobre el intervalo destetecelo. Se presentó un efecto significativo (P <0.05) de la línea materna sobre el intervalo destete-celo y el intervalo entre partos. El grupo de año influyó sobre el intervalo destetecelo, y se obtuvieron los valores más bajos en los grupos 1992 -1994, 1995-1997 y 2004-2006. En cuanto a la época de servicio, no se encontraron efectos significativos para las variables estudiadas. Con relación a los factores ambientales es importante considerarlos desde el punto de vista reproductivo en este tipo de granja comercial. ENGLISH: In assessing the productivity of sows from a commercial farm in northeastern Mexico for parity number, only the effect on the interval from weaning to estrus was significant (P <0.05). There was a significant effect (P <0.05) in the maternal line on weaning-estrus interval and calving interval. Year group influenced the weaning-estrus interval, obtaining the lowest values in the groups 1992 -1994, 1995-1997, and 2004-2006. As for the time of service, no significant effects were found for the variables studied. With regard to environmental factors it is important to consider them from the point of view in this kind of commercial farms
