    Smart energy monitoring and power quality performance based evaluation of 100-kW grid tied PV system

    Globally, the demand for energy from renewable sources is growing due to the increasing electricity consumption and the pollution of fossil fuels. The government has framed various policies to facilitate green energy generation, encouraging renewable energy source usage through PV installations in multiple sectors, including educational institutions. The primary objective of this paper is to propose a methodological approach for analysing the performance of the installed PV system on the rooftop of a university building in Tamil Nadu, India. The site selected is favourable for electricity generation from PV systems with an average global solar radiation of 5.82 kWh/m2day. Solar energy changes periodically with annual and daily variations and is not steady due to seasonal changes. The step-by-step performance assessment and the annual performance of the 100-kW solar PV system, which was instituted in 2019, with the forecasted parameters, are presented in this paper. Therefore, the assessment analysis is carried out in four phases: feasibility assessment, Energy yield assessment, Life cycle assessment, and Power quality assessment. To improve the solar PV output and efficiency, considering the solar irradiation, temperature, wind velocity, etc., PV yield is measured to evaluate the PV system\u27s energy metrics. This paper also considers the carbon credits earned, solar power generated in the location, and the payback period. The power quality assessment is carried out in this paper to test the PV plant\u27s compliance with effective grid integration

    Exploration of anticancer potential of hydroxamate derivatives as selective HDAC8 inhibitors using integrated structure and ligand based molecular modeling approach

    136-147Recently, histone deacetylase inhibitors are evolving as an exhilarating new class of promising antitumor agents for the treatment of multiple malignancies. It may play a pivotal role as a therapeutic target for challenging the globally wide spread disease, cancer. At the same time, the prediction of biological activity of novel compounds, which was once a major challenge in drug design, is also pacing up its speed. This computational study has been performed in Schrodinger suite packages such as sitemap generation, grid formation, Glide for docking, Quikprop for ADME analysis, e-pharmacophore post docking script and Phase for 3D QSAR models designing, that all are available in Maestro version 9.3. Docking not only helps in predicting the preferred orientation of ligand with its target receptor, but also the binding affinity between the ligand and receptor. The application of Phase and e-pharmacophore script predicts some computational models of the provided ligands using 3D QSAR method. This decreases the cost and time of biological experiments. Glide XP reveals that compound 21 with the highest score value as the best compound from the dataset. Also, it shows good R2=0.9834, Q2= 0.7753, stability = 0.5407 and low standard of deviation SD=0.1085 for hypothesis ADDRR.1601, for the PLS factor 5. The outcome of these studies suggests compound 21 as a potential drug molecule for HDAC targets

    Experimental study on strength properties of problematic soils with RBI -81 stabiliser

    ABSTRACT Rapid industrialization demands for developing engineering facilities even in difficult soils like soft clays and loose silts. Expansive soils which are generally termed as problematic soils cause swelling and shrinkage resulting in significant damage to the structures constructed on them. In this study an attempt is made to improve the strength and to stabilize the problematic soil by the use of chemical additive, RBI grade 81. Detailed experimental investigation including unconfined compression tests, SEM and EDAX analysis were carried out to know the effectiveness of addition of RBI grade 81 to improve the engineering properties, chemical composition and mineralogical properties of two soil samples (A1 and A2). Treated soil specimens at various stabilizer dosages (2, 4 and 6%) were tested for UCS after curing periods of 3 days and 7 days. It was observed that the unconfined compressive strength of the soil sample A1 and A2 increased by 475% and 430% with addition of 6% stabilizer after 7 days curing. The increase in strength can be due to the formation of new cementitious compounds which is evident in the micrographs from SEM and EDAX analysis

    Types of tobacco consumption and the oral microbiome in the United Arab Emirates Healthy Future (UAEHFS) Pilot Study

    © 2018, The Author(s). Cigarette smoking alters the oral microbiome; however, the effect of alternative tobacco products remains unclear. Middle Eastern tobacco products like dokha and shisha, are becoming globally widespread. We tested for the first time in a Middle Eastern population the hypothesis that different tobacco products impact the oral microbiome. The oral microbiome of 330 subjects from the United Arab Emirates Healthy Future Study was assessed by amplifying the bacterial 16S rRNA gene from mouthwash samples. Tobacco consumption was assessed using a structured questionnaire and further validated by urine cotinine levels. Oral microbiome overall structure and specific taxon abundances were compared, using PERMANOVA and DESeq analyses respectively. Our results show that overall microbial composition differs between smokers and nonsmokers (p = 0.0001). Use of cigarettes (p = 0.001) and dokha (p = 0.042) were associated with overall microbiome structure, while shisha use was not (p = 0.62). The abundance of multiple genera were significantly altered (enriched/depleted) in cigarette smokers; however, only Actinobacillus, Porphyromonas, Lautropia and Bifidobacterium abundances were significantly changed in dokha users whereas no genera were significantly altered in shisha smokers. For the first time, we show that smoking dokha is associated to oral microbiome dysbiosis, suggesting that it could have similar effects as smoking cigarettes on oral health

    Incense Burning is Associated with Human Oral Microbiota Composition

    © 2019, The Author(s). Incense burning is common worldwide and produces environmental toxicants that may influence health; however, biologic effects have been little studied. In 303 Emirati adults, we tested the hypothesis that incense use is linked to compositional changes in the oral microbiota that can be potentially significant for health. The oral microbiota was assessed by amplification of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene from mouthwash samples. Frequency of incense use was ascertained through a questionnaire and examined in relation to overall oral microbiota composition (PERMANOVA analysis), and to specific taxon abundances, by negative binomial generalized linear models. We found that exposure to incense burning was associated with higher microbial diversity (p \u3c 0.013) and overall microbial compositional changes (PERMANOVA, p = 0.003). Our study also revealed that incense use was associated with significant changes in bacterial abundances (i.e. depletion of the dominant taxon Streptococcus), even in occasional users (once/week or less) implying that incense use impacts the oral microbiota even at low exposure levels. In summary, this first study suggests that incense burning alters the oral microbiota, potentially serving as an early biomarker of incense-related toxicities and related health consequences. Although a common indoor air pollutant, guidelines for control of incense use have yet to be developed

    The AGE-RAGE axis in an Arab population: The United Arab Emirates Healthy Futures (UAEHFS) pilot study

    © 2017 The Authors Aims The transformation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from a semi-nomadic to a high income society has been accompanied by increasing rates of obesity and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. We examined if the AGE-RAGE (receptor for advanced glycation endproducts) axis is associated with obesity and diabetes mellitus in the pilot phase of the UAE Healthy Futures Study (UAEHFS). Methods 517 Emirati subjects were enrolled and plasma/serum levels of AGE, carboxy methyl lysine (CML)-AGE, soluble (s)RAGE and endogenous secretory (es)RAGE were measured along with weight, height, waist and hip circumference (WC/HC), blood pressure, HbA1c, Vitamin D levels and routine chemistries. The relationship between the AGE-RAGE axis and obesity and diabetes mellitus was tested using proportional odds models and linear regression. Results After covariate adjustment, AGE levels were significantly associated with diabetes status. Levels of sRAGE and esRAGE were associated with BMI and levels of sRAGE were associated with WC/HC. Conclusions The AGE-RAGE axis is associated with diabetes status and obesity in this Arab population. Prospective serial analysis of this axis may identify predictive biomarkers of obesity and cardiometabolic dysfunction in the UAEHFS

    Implementation of IIOT technology in welding robots for improving connectivity and enhancing productivity

    In the prevailing industrial revolution, most industries are on the path towards the digitalization journey. To incorporate several digital technologies in the organization data reliability and accuracy act as key enablers. To achieve the set goals, the connectivity of the machines is considered a prominent endeavour. Such connectivity can be achieved by implementing IIOT technology, the connected IIOT architecture enables interoperability, where the computerized machine can seamlessly communicate and transfer information among them. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential impacts of integrating IIOT into the organizational framework and further explore the advantages gained in terms of productivity and maintenance. This intended study concentrated on the welding department in VCE and prioritized specific robots for the research. In addition, to improve the connectivity and visualize the data a customizable dashboard was created to facilitate real-time tracking of the robots and an alert system was developed to notify the problems in real-time. To carry out the study this research was intended to use a particular IIOT software Thingworx from the PTC community. The research was carried out with extensive interviews and personal observation on the shop floor following a qualitative analysis methodology. Through the interviews, the prioritized entities were focused and based on the end user’s requirement the selected data tags were visualized.
