¿Un mismo ceremonial para dos dinastías? Las entradas reales de Martín el Humano (1397) y Fernando I (1412) en Barcelona

Based on a comparative analysis of royal entries into the city of Barcelona by kings Martin the Human (1397) and Ferdinand I (1412), this study aims to show to what extent the ceremonial inherent in this kind of ritual event was essentially determined by a tradition of reception practices unique to the city, rather than by the monarch’s will or by the fact that the kings belonged to different dynasties. The study offers a dynamic image of the royal entry, rather than a dramatized one, by placing it into a larger analytical framework where its less visible features may emerge and more obvious ones can be redefined

Ceremonia y conflicto: Entradas reales en Barcelona en el contexto de la Guerra Civil Catalana (1460-1473)

This study examines the royal entry ceremonies celebrated in Barcelona between 1460 and 1473, in the light of their meaning and importance in relation to the unsettled period marked by the Catalan Civil War (1462-1472). Starting from the premise that these sort of events are likely to reflect the sociopolitical reality in which they occur, it sets out to determine just how far the receptions offered to the monarchy by the city during these years can contribute towards explaining the origin, development and conclusion of the warlike conflict which set the institutions of the Principate against John II.Este estudio recorre las ceremonias de entrada real que se celebraron en Barcelona, entre 1460 y 1473, a la luz de su significación y trascendencia en relación al conflictivo período marcado por la Guerra Civil Catalana (1462-1472). Partiendo de la premisa de que este tipo de eventos son susceptibles de reflejar la realidad sociopolítica en la que tienen lugar, se intenta aquí determinar en qué medida las recepciones ofrecidas por la ciudad a la monarquía durante estos años pueden contribuir a explicar la génesis, desarrollo y conclusión del conflicto bélico que enfrentó a las instituciones del Principado con Juan II

La entrada real de Martín el Joven, rey de Sicilia en Barcelona (1405): Solemnidad, economía y conflicto

Based on an analysis of the royal entrance to Barcelona in 1405 made by Martin the Younger, king of Sicily, on his one and only visit to the city as heir to the Crown of Aragon, this study attempts to reflect on what might be learnt about these kind of ceremonies as a result of consulting of fi nancial documents kept in municipal archives, in this case the registers of the Clavaria in the Barcelona historical municipal archives. The information provided by this source, together with all the rest of the extant documentation, both royal and municipal, not only makes it possible to gain a knowledge of the important economic component of arranging a royal entry, but also to obtain a much more complete and detailed perspective of that event viewed chronologically. In this way we can follow the event, as in the royal entrance which is the subject of this study, from the initial solemnity of the ceremony accorded to the arrival of the illustrious visitor right up to the subsequent conflict caused by his presence in the city.Peer reviewe

Itineraris processionals a la Barcelona baixmedieval

Aquest treball s’inscriu en el marc del projecte d’investigació aprovat i financiat per la DGCYT: “Entre la Península Ibérica y el Mediterráneo. Interacciones políticas, económicas y culturales de la Corona de Aragón en la Baja Edad Media” (HUM2004-000916), dirigit per la doctora Roser Salicrú i Lluch.(CAT) Mitjançant l’estudi dels itineraris processionals de la Barcelona dels segles XIV i XV, aquest treball intenta reconstruir i identificar els espais físics urbans dibuixats per la festivitat i l’espiritualitat baixmedievals. Utilitzant informació arxivística inèdita de l’època, s’intenta descriure la xarxa viària processional de la ciutat i, alhora, reflexionar sobre el seu significat, no només religiós, sinó també social i polític.(EN) By means of studying the itineraries followed by processions in Barcelona in the Fourteenth and Fifteenth centuries, this article aims to reconstruct and identify the physical urban spaces set aside for these festivals and religious events in the late Middle Ages. Based on unpublished archival information from the period, it attempts to describe the network of streets in the city used for the processions and, at the same time, reflect not only on the religious, but also on their social and political significance.Peer reviewe

«E vingueren los officis e confraries ab llurs entremeses e balls». Una aproximación al estamento artesanal en la Barcelona bajomedieval, a partir del estudio de las ceremonias de entrada real

Este trabajo se inscribe en el marco del pr oyecto de investigación aprobado y financiado por la DGCYT: "Entre la Peníns ula Ibérica y el Mediterráneo. Interacciones políticas, económicas y culturales de la Corona de Aragón en la Baja Edad Media" (HUM2004-000916), dirigido por la doctora Roser Salicrú i Lluch.(ES) Dos son los objetivos que confluyen en este artículo. Por un lado, mostrar hasta qué punto el estudio de las ceremonias colectivas urbanas, y en concreto de las entradas reales, en la Barcelona bajomedieval, es capaz de suministrar información útil para el conocimiento del estamento artesanal y de sus mecanismos asociativos. Al mismo tiempo, la atención sobre la participación de dicho estamento en las mencionadas ceremonias puede contribuir a dinamizar la visión, en ocasiones excesivamente escénica, que poseemos de dichos eventos.(EN) This article has two objectives. On the one hand, to show to what extent the study of collective urban ceremonies, and specifically royal entries, in Barcelona in the late Middle Ages , is able to furnish useful information for our knowledge of the artesan class and its associations. At the same time, focusing on the participa- tion of the said class in the above mentio- ned ceremonies can help to make more vivid the image which we have of these events.Peer reviewe

Las ceremonias de la caridad: asistencia, marginación y pobreza en el escenario urbano bajomedieval

El estudio de las ceremonias urbanas bajomedievales puede llegar a ser un instrumento útil para la obtención de imágenes dinámicas y complejas de la sociedad en la que se desarrollan. Relacionar este campo con el universo de la caridad y la pobreza permite igualmente intentar revitalizar la percepción de unas figuras -las de los desfavorecidos y marginados- habitualmente condenadas a transitar por espacios de penumbra dominados por la pasividad y el anonimato. La apuesta, como es natural, bordea el fracaso: son tantos los matices y precisiones que podrían objetársele, tanto cronológicos como geográficos, y tantos los detalles que somos incapaces de reconstruir, que el intento, en tanto que modesto apunte quizá más sociológico que histórico, ha de ser entendido como un mosaico de imágenes y pinceladas que, en último término, pretende sugerir ideas antes que determinar realidades.Peer reviewe

El Barón de Rozmital en la Corona de Aragón: Nuevos datos sobre la presencia de un ilustre viajero bohemio del siglo XV en la Peninsula Ibérica

(ES) En este artículo se intenta reflexionar acerca de las circunstancias históricas en las que se desarrolló el periplo europeo del barón León de Rozmital, noble bohemio emparentado con el rey husita Jorge de Podebrady, entre finales de 1465 e inicios de 1467. Se hace especial hincapié en su paso por los territorios peninsulares de la Corona de Aragón, en un momento marcado de lleno por el conflicto bélico que enfrentaba a Juan II con el Principado de Cataluña. Se aportan, igualmente, algunos documentos inéditos que atestiguan el paso de Rozmital y de su séquito por Aragón y Cataluña a finales de 1466.(EN) This article seeks to explore the historical circumstances surrounding the European voyage of Baron Leon of Rozmital, a Bohemian noble related to the Hussite king George of Podebrady, between the end of 1465 and the beginning of 1467, focusing particular attention on his passage through the peninsular territories of the Crown of Aragon at a moment marked by the warlike conflicts between John II and the Principality of Catalonia.
