Trabalho apresentado no 31º SEURS - Seminário de Extensão Universitária da Região Sul, realizado em Florianópolis, SC, no período de 04 a 07 de agosto de 2013 - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.Este curso de extensão tem por finalidade abrir espaço para a troca de experiências entre a universidade e a comunidade, e também entre os estudantes do Centro de Engenharias e os estudantes do Centro de Artes. Nos últimos anos, temos investido em experiências que testam práticas mais efetivas e ecológicas para a realização de gravuras artísticas através de processos alternativos e materiais não-tóxicos. Não estamos sozinhos nesse intento, pois o que presenciamos é um movimento que encontra adeptos em diversos países. Vive-se uma mudança de paradigma na produção de gravuras, sem por isso deixarmos de lado as técnicas e procedimentos tradicionais. Estas melhorias já fazem parte das atividades do nosso grupo na Universidade Federal de Pelotas, com repercussões nas atividades de ensino, pesquisa e extensão. No último ano, iniciamos atividades conjuntas com a engenharia eletrônica com o objetivo de compartilhar estes novos conhecimentos alternativos utilizados na gravura artística para serem aplicados também nagravação de placas de circuito impresso (PCI) utilizadas em dispositivos eletrônicos. As intersecções entre o campo da arte e o da engenharia estão sendo desenvolvidas pelo grupo através de estratégias que combinam materiais e procedimentos práticos com a junção de conhecimentos de ambas as áreas. A metodologia utilizada envolve aprendizagem por parte dos bolsistas e voluntários para ministrarem cursos visando a multiplicação dos conhecimentos e das práticas com as pessoas interessados da comunidade. Como resultado, diversas placas de circuito impresso já foram gravadas com estas alternativas ecológicas. Entre elas estão as PCIs utilizadas nos amplificadores de áudio instalados em uma Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental de Pelotas para o funcionamento de uma rádio escolar. As experiências multidisciplinares podem motivar o ensino de gravura e de engenharia eletrônica a partir da inclusão de novas metodologias com atividades que aproximam os estudantes das duas áreas

A teoria marxista da dependência : papel e lugar das ciências sociais da Universidade de Brasília

Propõe-se, neste artigo, analisar a contribuição da produção social de quatro intelectuais que trabalharam nos primórdios da Universidade de Brasília com relação à teoria marxista da dependência. São utilizados textos e memoriais produzidos à época e duas entrevistas realizadas recentemente, além da bibliografia sobre o assunto. Encontrou-se evidência de que a Universidade de Brasília foi lugar de embate teórico travado entre funcionalismo e marxismo, da necessidade de fundamentar a produção analítica dos intelectuais com o aporte metodológico e teórico do marxismo, da realização da crítica sobre a concepção da relação entre países que fazem parte do sistema mundial como desenvolvidos e subdesenvolvidos, sem com isso envolver uma relação de exploração, embora se tenha encontrado nos textos referências e raízes de elementos da teoria da dependência, tal como o mecanismo da exploração redobrada pela burguesia nacional e pelo capital internacional. O artigo destaca a formação militante de pelo menos três dos quatro intelectuais nas fileiras da Organização Revolucionária Marxista - Política Operária (Polop) e sua influência sobre a atuação política e a necessidade da revolução socialista.It is proposed in this paper to study the contribution of four intellectuals, who worked in the beginnings of the University of Brasilia, Brazil, to the marxist theory of dependency. Texts and memorials written by them as well as two interviews recently made are used as sources of information, besides the usual bibliography about the subject matter. Evidence was found that the University of Brasilia has been the place for theoretical disputes between structural functionalism and marxism, for the need to lay foundations for the analytical production of these intellectuals with the methodological and theoretical contributions of marxism, for making the criticism of the conceptions of the relations between countries that are part of the world system as developed and underdeveloped, without implicating a relation of exploitation among them, while the references of a general formulation of the theory of dependency were more as roots and beginnings, there including the mechanism of a double exploitation, either by the national bourgeoisies or by the international capitals. The paper indicates the militant formation of at least three of the four intellectuals in the ranges of Polop (Marxist Revolutionary Organization - Proletarian Politics) and its influence over political action and over the need of a socialist revolution

QT interval dynamics in patients with ST-elevation MI

BackgroundAn association between excessively prolonged QT and ventricular arrhythmia in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction has been described; however, the QT dynamics, characterization, and long-term predictive value are not well known.ObjectiveTo characterize QT interval dynamics in patients undergoing ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and determine its association with mortality.MethodsA retrospective analysis of 4,936 consecutive patients, hospitalized for STEMI between 01/2013–12/2021. Patients with less than three electrocardiograms (ECGs) during index hospitalization were excluded. Baseline demographics, cardiovascular history, clinical risk factors, treatment measures, laboratory results, and mortality data were retrieved from the hospital’s electronic medical records.ResultsWe included 1,054 patients and 5,021 ECGs in our cohort with a median follow-up of 6 years [interquartile range (IQR) 4.3–7.4 years]. The QT was longer in women in comparison to men (428.6 ms ± 33.4 versus 419.8 ms ± 32.52, P-value = 0.001). QT prolongation was greater in females, elderly patients, and patients with STEMI caused by occlusion of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery. We determined QT cutoff to be 445 ms. This value of QT divided our cohort upon arrival into a long QT group (217 patients, 26% of the cohort) and a “normal” QT group (835 patients, 74% of the cohort). The long QT group experienced an increase in combined short and long terms all-cause mortality. The QT upon arrival, on day 2 of hospitalization, and before discharge from the hospital, correlated with long-term mortality.ConclusionQT duration is often prolonged during STEMI; this prolongation is associated with increased mortality and adverse events. A continental-wide molecular approach unraveling mtDNA diversity and geographic distribution of the Neotropical genus Hoplias

With an estimate of around 9,000 species, the Neotropical region hosts the greatest diversity of freshwater fishes of the world. Genetic surveys have the potential to unravel isolated and unique lineages and may result in the identification of undescribed species, accelerating the cataloguing of extant biodiversity. In this paper, molecular diversity within the valuable and widespread Neotropical genus Hoplias was assessed by means of DNA Barcoding. The geographic coverage spanned 40 degrees of latitude from French Guiana to Argentina. Our analyses revealed 22 mitochondrial lineages fully supported by means of Barcode Index Number, Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery and phylogenetic analyses. This mtDNA survey revealed the existence of 15 fully supported mitochondrial lineages within the once considered to be the continentally distributed H. malabaricus. Only four of them are currently described as valid species however, leaving 11 mitochondrial lineages currently “masked” within this species complex. Mean genetic divergence was 13.1%. Barcoding gap analysis discriminated 20 out of the 22 lineages tested. Phylogenetic analyses showed that all taxonomically recognized species form monophyletic groups. Hoplias malabaricus sensu stricto clustered within a large clade, excluding the representatives of the La Plata River Basin. In the H. lacerdae group, all species but H. curupira showed a cohesive match between taxonomic and molecular identification. Two different genetic lineages were recovered for H. aimara. Given the unexpected hidden mitochondrial diversity within H. malabaricus, the COI sequence composition of specimens from Suriname (the type locality), identified as H. malabaricus sensu stricto, is of major importance.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

Rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART): Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is associated with high in-hospital mortality. Alveolar recruitment followed by ventilation at optimal titrated PEEP may reduce ventilator-induced lung injury and improve oxygenation in patients with ARDS, but the effects on mortality and other clinical outcomes remain unknown. This article reports the rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART). Methods/Design: ART is a pragmatic, multicenter, randomized (concealed), controlled trial, which aims to determine if maximum stepwise alveolar recruitment associated with PEEP titration is able to increase 28-day survival in patients with ARDS compared to conventional treatment (ARDSNet strategy). We will enroll adult patients with ARDS of less than 72 h duration. The intervention group will receive an alveolar recruitment maneuver, with stepwise increases of PEEP achieving 45 cmH(2)O and peak pressure of 60 cmH2O, followed by ventilation with optimal PEEP titrated according to the static compliance of the respiratory system. In the control group, mechanical ventilation will follow a conventional protocol (ARDSNet). In both groups, we will use controlled volume mode with low tidal volumes (4 to 6 mL/kg of predicted body weight) and targeting plateau pressure <= 30 cmH2O. The primary outcome is 28-day survival, and the secondary outcomes are: length of ICU stay; length of hospital stay; pneumothorax requiring chest tube during first 7 days; barotrauma during first 7 days; mechanical ventilation-free days from days 1 to 28; ICU, in-hospital, and 6-month survival. ART is an event-guided trial planned to last until 520 events (deaths within 28 days) are observed. These events allow detection of a hazard ratio of 0.75, with 90% power and two-tailed type I error of 5%. All analysis will follow the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion: If the ART strategy with maximum recruitment and PEEP titration improves 28-day survival, this will represent a notable advance to the care of ARDS patients.
