Music video is part of popular cultures that included into cultural product which concern with the influence of commercialization and industrialization. The social significance of popular culture in the modern era can be charted by the way it has been identified by the idea of mass culture, so that, music video can be an easy way to deliver thought and idea to the people. As music video is often related with bands, one certain band was chosen as the object of the study which is Muse music video entitled Animals. This research will decipher symbol in the video and relate it with support of Capitalism theory. Peirce’s semiotics theory of signs is used to reveal the meaning of the sign that used in Animals video. For further analysis on capitalism aspects, the writer uses capitalism theory to analyze the aspects of capitalism concept which are found though the symbol in the video.The result of the research shows that in Animals video, the symbols which are found pictures the capitalism concept, such as economic power, social classes, human exploitation, and social conflict. By covering those aspects, it can be seen from this research that the correlation of capitalism and semiotics can be found in the object which is Muse music video entitled Animals. Therefore, it is proven that the elaboration of the two theories is suitable in analyzing music video as part of cultural products.For the next researchers, the researcher suggests to use the same theory and object with different or deeper focus. In this research, the researcher focuses on the symbol that appeared in the video, the next researcher can use the same object with a different focus like analyzing another category of Piercian model of sign such as icon and index. Further suggestion is that the next researcher can use biographical approach to give a different perspective towards the music video. By doing biographical analysis the study will be expected to explore the influence of human experiences toward the works of literature, as it is stated that literary works are the imitation of human experiences

The role of community colleges in economic development: A case study of internal and external stakeholders’ perceptions

Community colleges have long been a key driver of local economic development through education and workforce development programs. Over the past few decades, community colleges have increased their involvement in economic development activities beyond their traditional roles. Some believe the expansion of the role of community colleges to be a natural extension of their mission, while others are concerned this expansion may divert scarce resources into activities that dilute their core mission. Advances in technology, especially in the areas of artificial intelligence and automation, threaten to displace workers at an ever-increasing pace. Additionally, changing technology will require skilled technical workers to constantly retrain throughout their careers. Most studies examining the role of community colleges in economic development tend to focus on direct economic impacts: total payroll, purchasing, and support costs. Few studies have explored how community colleges work within their local regions to drive growth and expand the economy. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of internal and external stakeholders of the role of the community college in regional economic development activities, and to identify areas of agreement and gaps in the alignment of perceptions of the various internal and external stakeholders. Research in this area is important to better understand where interaction and support between interdependent actors can be optimized to produce more effective outcomes for economic development efforts through better alignment of resources. The study methodology used a qualitative case study approach examining the perceptions of internal and external stakeholders within a community college service area. The primary data collection method was semistructured interviews with twenty key stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization. Additional data was gathered from economic development plans and documents from the communities in the region to determine whether or not there was a cohesive vision in the region for economic development for the college to align its activities to. The study utilized three theoretical frameworks: Isenberg’s (2014) entrepreneurial ecosystems, Emery and Flora’s (2006) community capitals, and Florida’s (2014) creative class theories. Each framework provided a means to assess the community context for the study. The results of the study indicated the local college is highly regarded in the community, and many of the programs of the college are perceived to be effective. At the same time, both internal and external stakeholders perceived significant room for improvement. Additionally, the study found evidence suggesting structures within the region for supporting strong economic growth are not ideal, and there is a lack of cohesion among the local communities for developing a vision for economic development. Recommendations for practitioners are presented for consideration in cultivating improved conditions to spur economic growth and better align resources and activities to increase the effectiveness of programs and strengthen the role of community colleges. Expanding this research may increase understanding of how colleges effectively integrate within their communities to spur economic growth and prosperity

Characterization and in vivo validation of a three-dimensional multi-cellular culture model to study heterotypic interactions in colorectal cancer cell growth, invasion and metastasis

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third cause of cancer-related mortality in industrialized countries. Local invasion and metastasis formation are events associated with poor prognosis for which today there are no effective therapeutic options. Invasion and metastasis are strongly modulated by cells of the tumor microenvironment (TME), in particular fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Unraveling interactions between tumor cells and cells of the TME may identify novel mechanisms and therapeutic targets to prevent or treat metastasis. We report here the development and in vivo validation of a 3D tumor spheroid model to study the interactions between CRC cells, fibroblasts and endothelial cells in vitro. Co-cultured fibroblasts promoted SW620 and HCT116 CRC spheroid invasion, and this was prevented by the SRC and FGFR kinase inhibitors Dasatinib and Erdafitinib, respectively. To validate these findings in vivo, we injected SW620 cells alone or together with fibroblasts orthotopically in the caecum of mice. Co-injection with fibroblasts promoted lung metastasis growth, which was fully reversed by treatment with Dasatinib or Erdafitinib. Co-culture of SW620 or HCT116 CRC spheroids with endothelial cells suppressed spheroid growth while it had no effect on cancer cell migration or invasion. Consistent with this in vitro effect, co- injected endothelial cells significantly inhibited primary tumor growth in vivo. From these experiments we conclude that effects on cancer cell invasion and growth induced by co-cultured TME cells and drug treatment in the 3D spheroid model in vitro, are predictive of in vivo effects. The 3D spheroid model may be considered as an attractive model to study the effect of heterotypic cellular interactions and drug activities on cancer cells, as animal testing alternative. This model may be adapted and further developed to include different types of cancer and host cells and to investigate additional functions and drugs

High prevalence of closely-related Acinetobacter baumannii in pets according to a multicentre study in veterinary clinics, Reunion Island

Our objective was to study the carriage of Acinetobacter baumannii (AB) in pets in Reunion Island (RI), a French territory in Indian Ocean. Overall, 138 pets were sampled (rectum, mouth, wounds if applicable) in 9 veterinary clinics (VC). The prevalence of AB carriage was 6.5% (95%CI; 2.4, 10.6) and 9 carriers were identified from 4 VC. Hospitalization in a VC and antimicrobial treatment administered within the 15 preceding days were significantly associated with AB carriage (P<0.01 and P<0.05, respectively). Despite the VC in which animals have been sampled were located all around RI, most isolates (8/9) were closely-related (>90% similarity by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis). Additional studies are needed to improve the understanding about interactions between the different reservoirs of AB in RI

Perceptions of acute Care Telemedicine among Caregivers For Persons Living With Dementia: a Qualitative Study

Persons living with dementia (PLWD) have high emergency department (ED) utilization. Little is known about using telemedicine with PLWD and caregivers as an alternative to ED visits for minor acute health problems. This qualitative interview-based study elicited caregivers\u27 perspectives about the acceptability of telemedicine for acute complaints. We performed telephone interviews with 28 caregivers of PLWD from two academic EDs, one in the Northeast and another in the South. Using a combined deductive-inductive approach, we coded interview transcripts and elucidated common themes by consensus. All caregivers reported they would need to participate in the telemedicine visit to help overcome communication and digital literacy challenges. People from racial/ethnic minority groups reported lower comfort with the virtual format. In both sites, participants expressed uncertainty about illness severity that could preclude using telemedicine for acute complaints. Overall, respondents deemed acute care telemedicine acceptable, but caregivers describe specific roles as crucial intermediaries to facilitate virtual care

Tetrastatin, the NC1 Domain of the α4(IV) Collagen Chain: A Novel Potent Anti-Tumor Matrikine

BACKGROUND: NC1 domains from α1, α2, α3 and α6(IV) collagen chains were shown to exert anti-tumor or anti-angiogenic activities, whereas the NC1 domain of the α4(IV) chain did not show such activities so far. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We demonstrate in the present paper that the NC1 α4(IV) domain exerts a potent anti-tumor activity both in vitro and in an experimental human melanoma model in vivo. The overexpression of NC1 α4(IV) in human UACC-903 melanoma cells strongly inhibited their in vitro proliferative (-38%) and invasive (-52%) properties. MT1-MMP activation was largely decreased and its cellular distribution was modified, resulting in a loss of expression at the migration front associated with a loss of migratory phenotype. In an in vivo xenograft model in athymic nude mice, the subcutaneous injection of NC1 α4(IV)-overexpressing melanoma cells induced significantly smaller tumors (-80% tumor volume) than the Mock cells, due to a strong inhibition of tumor growth. Exogenously added recombinant human NC1 α4(IV) reproduced the inhibitory effects of NC1 α4(IV) overexpression in UACC-903 cells but not in dermal fibroblasts. An anti-αvβ3 integrin blocking antibody inhibited cell adhesion on recombinant human NC1 α4(IV) substratum. The involvement of αvβ3 integrin in mediating NC1 α4(IV) effect was confirmed by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) binding assays showing that recombinant human NC1 α4(IV) binds to αvβ3 integrin (K(D) = 148 ± 9.54 nM). CONCLUSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Collectively, our results demonstrate that the NC1 α4(IV) domain, named tetrastatin, is a new endogenous anti-tumor matrikine
