A Note on Redesign Material Substitution and Topology Optimization in a Lightweight Robotic Gripper

    Get PDF
The gripper is required because it is the portion of the robot that makes direct contact with the object being grasped. It should weigh as little as possible without compromising functionality or its performance. This study aims to reconsider the construction of a lightweight robotic gripper by modifying the gripper's materials and topology. Using the finite element (FE) method, several types of gripper materials were evaluated for static stress. On the basis of the results of the FE analysis, the optimal material candidate was chosen using the weighted objective method. Using the Fusion 360 software, the topology of the selected material was then optimized in an effort to achieve the 40% weight reduction’s objective. In addition, the suggested optimized geometry is then fine-tuned so that it can be manufactured as efficiently as possible. The final step in the validation of the robotic gripper's design was stress static analysis. The revised gripper design has a mass of 0.08 kg, a reduction of 94% from the original mass, and a safety factor of 3.67%, which satisfies the desired level of performance for the robotic gripper. Utilizing different materials and optimizing the gripper's topology can significantly reduce the overall mass of a robotic gripper. &nbsp

Design and Characterization of a Non-Linear Variable Inerter in Vehicle Suspension System

Inerter is a two-terminal component in suspension system such that the force at the two terminals is directly proportional to the relative acceleration of these two points. Studies have shown that the inerter can provide satisfactory vibration isolation for a number of suspension applications, including train suspension, building suspension and vehicle suspension. In the context of vehicle suspension, the existing passive inerter has been shown to provide benefits to vehicle dynamics performance measures, such as ride comfort and road holding ability. However, a basic passive inerter has fixed characteristic, and hence its potential is limited. This study overcome this limitation by incorporating variable inertia in inerter flywheel, however its non-linear characteristic needs to be determined. The method of achieving variable inertia in inerter flywheel is through introduction of movable masses or sliders attached with springs into inerter flywheel. The change of moment of inertia is caused by position change of sliders due to centrifugal force when the flywheel is rotating. Results showed that the proposed variable inerter exhibits a non-linear force-acceleration relationship with respect to its operating rotational speed. A vehicle suspension system equipped with a variable inerter is also able to further reduce vertical vehicle body acceleration and vehicle’s dynamic tire load when compared with vehicle suspension system without inerter and equipped with a passive inerter, which indirectly relates to a better vehicle ride and handling performance improvements. Hence, it can be proved that the proposed variable inerter is better than a passive inerter and is able to provide better ride comfort and road holding ability to a vehicle

Nowadays, the rapid development of biotechnology has become a main concern for a larger part of the world. It has become one of the most promising fields which guarantee returns to businesses and offers benefits to the society. When dealing with biotechnology, the first issue that comes to mind is the safeness of the technology from tip to toe, that is, the safeness of the products of biotechnology, how they can be used on human beings and animal, and their effects on the environment. The objective of this paper is to assess the needs and adequacy of the regulation in developing countries compared to the developed countries. In order to address these concerns, governments have adopted appropriate regulations to ensure the safety of the biotechnology products, and to protect not just human but the environment universally. This paper will discuss those regulations, especially as adopted by developing countries along with their implications. It is hoped that the paper will recover the lack of the regulations in relation to developed country.Key words: Biotechnology, biosafety, developing countries, benefits, risks and controversies

The study investigated computer-generated synthetic data setsfor use in reconstructing images in computed tomography. The data sets of computed tomography were in the format of forward projection. The present study focused on transforming a normal image data set to those of a forward projection data set. The method used to transform the normal image data set to a forward projection data set was Radon transformation. Forward projection data sets are also called sinogram data sets or the output of computed tomography data acquisition systems. The experiment was conducted using both grayscale and colour images. The time taken for the completion of the image reconstruction was measured and recorded in a table. The images from the synthetic data sets of computed tomography were plotted side by side with the original image. The synthetic data sets using forward projection data sets could be transformed back to their original image form through the application of inverse Radon transformation. This technique is known as backwards projection

Over recent years, the imbalance between housing demand and supply, particularly in the high-cost housing segment, led to the rapid increase in the house prices. This paper has applied the standard theory of consumer demand and supply supplemented using content analysis method to explain the trend of housing demand and supply of housing market in Malaysia. Sampling in the quantitative content analysis is carried out to achieve the objective. Property Market Status Report in the NAPIC website provide a series data for total housing demand and supply for any house type of terrace, detached, cluster and townhouse in the price range between RM50,000 to RM300,000. All data provided cover from the first quarter until the fourth quarter across the year 2006 to 2015 specifically in Peninsular Malaysia only. Each level of the house price has a different equilibrium price so that developers can use it as an indicator based on the housing type. This research will promote ways to achieve the sustainabiliy in construction output overall so that the scholars can improve the equilibrium price model proposed in order to make the Malaysian housing become an affordable
