The lexical approach: collocability, fluency and implications for teaching
The lexical approach identifies lexis as the basis of language and focuses on the principle that language consists of grammaticalised lexis. in second language acquisition, over the past few years, this approach has generated great interest as an alternative to traditional grammar-based teaching methods. From a psycholinguistic point of view, the lexical approach consists of the capacity of understanding and producing lexical phrases as non-analysed entities (chunks). A growing body of literature concerning spoken fluency is in favour of integrating automaticity and formulaic language units into classroom practice. in line with the latest theories on SlA, we recommend the inclusion of a language awareness component as an integral part of this approach. The purpose is to induce what Schmidt (1990) calls noticing, i.e., registering forms in the input so as to store them in memory. This paper, which is in keeping with the interuniversity Research Project “Evidentiality in a multidisciplinary corpus of English research papers” of the University of las Palmas de Gran Canaria, provides a theoretical overview on the research of this approach taking into account both the methodological foundations on the subject and its pedagogical implications for SLA.
Sacrifice Polysemy. Policy and Fragment of Latin American Communitas
The sacrifice, as a metaphoric elaboration of social reciprocities is treated in this document in its complex polysemy, and from which the objective- subjective dialectics showed in ritual scenarios is studied. With this purpose, the analysis is focused on moments of interruption in social cohesion during the pre-Hispanic period and contemporaneous Mesoamerican indigenous world, taken it as a background, in order to propose an explanation from such categories for current society in fragmentation processes, which break reciprocal links in the center of different Latin American communities, resulting in sacrificed expressions participating in the reconstitution of social fractures occurred in our territory, and restitute, Humberto Maturana’s words, loving bond inherent to human condition
A Radial Velocity Study of the Intermediate Polar EX Hydrae
A study on the intermediate polar EX Hya is presented, based on simultaneous
photometry and high dispersion spectroscopic observations, during four
consecutive nights. The strong photometric modulation related to with the
67-min spin period of the primary star is clearly present, as well as the
narrow eclipses associated to the orbital modulation. Since our eclipse timings
have been obtained almost 91,000 cycles since the last reported observations,
we present new linear ephemeris, although we cannot rule out a sinusoidal
variation suggested by previous authors. The system mainly shows double-peaked
H, H and HeI 5876 \AA emission lines. From the profile
of the H line, we find two components; one with a steep rise and
velocities not larger than 1000 km s and another broader component
extending up to 2000 km s, which we interpret as coming mainly
from the inner disc. A strong and variable hotspot is found and a stream-like
structure is seen at times. We show that the best solution correspond to km s from H, from the two emission components, which
are both in phase with the orbital modulation. We remark on a peculiar effect
in the radial velocity curve around phase zero, which could be interpreted as a
Rositter-MacLaughlin-like effect, which has been taken into account before
deriving . This value is compatible with the values found in
high-resolution both in the ultraviolet and X-ray. We find: M, M and
R. Doppler Tomography has been applied, to construct six Doppler
tomograms for single orbital cycles spanning the four days of observations to
support our conclusions. Our results indicate that EX Hya has a well formed
disc and that the magnetosphere should extend only to about

Min-Max Predictive Control of a Five-Phase Induction Machine
In this paper, a fuzzy-logic based operator is used instead of a traditional cost function for
the predictive stator current control of a five-phase induction machine (IM). The min-max operator
is explored for the first time as an alternative to the traditional loss function. With this proposal,
the selection of voltage vectors does not need weighting factors that are normally used within
the loss function and require a cumbersome procedure to tune. In order to cope with conflicting
criteria, the proposal uses a decision function that compares predicted errors in the torque producing
subspace and in the x-y subspace. Simulations and experimental results are provided, showing how
the proposal compares with the traditional method of fixed tuning for predictive stator current control.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad DPI 2016-76493-C3-1-R y 2014/425Unión Europea DPI 2016-76493-C3-1-R y 2014/425Universidad de Sevilla DPI 2016-76493-C3-1-R y 2014/42
Automatic Text Summarization Approaches to Speed up Topic Model Learning Process
The number of documents available into Internet moves each day up. For this
reason, processing this amount of information effectively and expressibly
becomes a major concern for companies and scientists. Methods that represent a
textual document by a topic representation are widely used in Information
Retrieval (IR) to process big data such as Wikipedia articles. One of the main
difficulty in using topic model on huge data collection is related to the
material resources (CPU time and memory) required for model estimate. To deal
with this issue, we propose to build topic spaces from summarized documents. In
this paper, we present a study of topic space representation in the context of
big data. The topic space representation behavior is analyzed on different
languages. Experiments show that topic spaces estimated from text summaries are
as relevant as those estimated from the complete documents. The real advantage
of such an approach is the processing time gain: we showed that the processing
time can be drastically reduced using summarized documents (more than 60\% in
general). This study finally points out the differences between thematic
representations of documents depending on the targeted languages such as
English or latin languages.Comment: 16 pages, 4 tables, 8 figure
Occurrence of nematodes on Ephemeroptera nymphs in a tropical rainforest stream
Nematodes are common symbionts of aquatic insects. Here, we assessed the presence of nematodes in mayfly nymphs (Ephemeroptera), evaluated their prevalence in the population, and determined factors associated with nematode presence. Mayflies were collected (n = 130) from three stream habitats (riffles, pools, and boulders) using a D net, in Prieta stream, El Verde Field Station, Puerto Rico. Mayflies were dissected and nematode presence was determined under a light microscope (4 x and 10 x). Nematode prevalence was 50 %. Nematodes were not identified beyond Phylum level, but we were able to eliminate various groups as infective agents (Nematoda: Mermithidae and Nematomorpha: Gordiida). They were mostly found in the abdomen, head or thorax of mayflies. There were differences in infection among taxa, Neohagenulus was the group with the highest proportion of infection. Mayfly body shape, feeding strategy, or activity potentially explain differences in infection among taxa. There were no differences in infection among habitats, but mayflies were less abundant in riffles; and there was no relation between mayfly body length and the number of nematodes present. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a nematode present in mayfly nymphs in Puerto Rico
