    Este título, sugestivo por los impactos durante la situación de la Covid 19 en el mundo, y que en Colombia lastimosamente han sido muy críticos, permiten asumir la obligada superación de tensiones sociales, políticas, y económicas; pero sobre todo científicas y tecnológicas. Inicialmente, esto supone la existencia de una capacidad de la sociedad colombiana por recuperar su estado inicial después de que haya cesado la perturbación a la que fue sometida por la catastrófica pandemia, y superar ese anterior estado de cosas ya que se encontraban -y aún se encuentran- muchos problemas locales mal resueltos, medianamente resueltos, y muchos sin resolver: es decir, habrá que rediseñar y fortalecer una probada resiliencia social existente - producto del prolongado conflicto social colombiano superado parcialmente por un proceso de paz exitoso - desde la tecnociencia local; como lo indicaba Markus Brunnermeier - economista alemán y catedrático de economía de la Universidad de Princeton- en su libro The Resilient Society…La cuestión no es preveerlo todo sino poder reaccionar…aprender a recuperarse rápido.This title, suggestive of the impacts during the Covid 19 situation in the world, and which have unfortunately been very critical in Colombia, allows us to assume the obligatory overcoming of social, political, and economic tensions; but above all scientific and technological.     The Retail Location Problem Under Uncertain Demand

    We study the problem of a retailer facing uncertainty on the demand. The main objective is to maximize his pro t by optimizing the inventory policy and sales, also considering the option to open new selling points. We propose an integrated framework to jointly optimize the strategic and tactical decisions. First, we formulate a deterministic optimization problem (with demand known in advance) and we analyze its outcomes. The optimal solution is not satisfying because it suffers from being anticipative. Secondly, multi-stage stochastic optimization is considered. We formulate the problem in three different versions with increasing complexity. The fi rst version considers a single retailer (SRLP) and ignores the strategic decision for opening a new selling point. We solve it by stochastic dynamic programming and we discuss results. Second and third versions are: a N-retailer (NRLP) case where transshipments between retailers are possible; a case where opening decisions of retailers might be made only at the beginning of the time span. Here we propose a new resolution method gathering Stochastic Dual Dynamic Programming and Progressive Hedging algorithms.Estudiamos el problema de un minorista que se enfrenta a incertidumbre en la demanda. El objetivo principal es maximizar la utilidad generada optimizando las decisiones asociadas a las políticas de inventario y ventas, además de considerar la posible apertura de nuevos puntos de venta. Proponemos un marco que integra la optimización de decisiones tanto estratégicas como tácticas. En primera instancia, se presenta el problema de optimización determinístico (demanda conocida con anticipación) y se analizan sus resultados. Logramos evidenciar que la solución no satisface las condiciones dadas en situaciones reales debido a que la demanda puede ser anticipada. Posteriormente, presentamos un modelo estocástico multi etapa, formulando el problema en 3 diferentes versiones las cuales incrementan su complejidad de una a otra. La primera formulación considera un único punto de venta excluyendo decisiones de localización (SRLP por sus siglas en inglés Single Retail Location problem). El modelo es resuelto utilizando programación estocástica dinámica y los resultados obtenidos son discutidos. La segunda y tercera versión consideran: múltiples retailers e inclusión de decisiones de localización de nuevos puntos de venta, respectivamente. En esta etapa proponemos un nuevo método de solución utilizando algoritmos existentes en la literatura como Programación Estocástica Dinámica Dual y algoritmo "Progressive Hedging".MaestríaMagíster en Ingeniería Industria

    La anterior selección, motivados por la aseveración de Manuel Castells -hace casi 20 años ya- que la innovación y la difusión de la tecnología parecía ser la herramienta apropiada para el desarrollo en la era de la información. Este 2020, sin embargo, ante la situación disruptiva que aquejó y aqueja a la sociedad red como una estructura social emergente de la Era de la Información basada en redes de producción, energizadas por el poder y la experiencia; falló y debe reencontrar su rumbo. Es así que los problemas acuciantes, ahora, fueron: la atención sanitaria y la superación de la epidemia de Sars Cov 2; tomó forma la, hasta entonces, visión irrealista de Castells que … no podemos avanzar con nuestros modelos de desarrollo actual, destruyendo nuestro entorno y excluyendo a la mayor parte de la humanidad de los beneficios de la revolución tecnológica más extraordinaria de la historia, sin sufrir una devastadora reacción por parte de la sociedad y la naturaleza. Fue así que el Cuarto Mundo, específicamente, donde la suficiencia de recurso humano, de capital, trabajo, información y mercado -vinculados todos a través de la tecnología- supuso que atendería eficazmente a través de la población que podía por su capacidad hacer uso racional y profesional del conocimiento, las necesidades de la mayoritaria población vulnerable y vulnerada. Por lo anterior, poner en el centro a las personas, en entornos de tarea y trabajo globales hiperconectados combinando espacios físicos, corrientes de información con canales de conexión expeditos, y formando profesionales del conocimiento que asuman y afronten los retos derivados de la transformación digital de empresas, universidades, y organizaciones, pero en condiciones de equidad y sujetos de prosperidad, será el desafío en los escenarios presentes y futuros inmediatos.The previous selection, motivated by the assertion of Manuel Castells -almost 20 years ago- that innovation and diffusion of technology seemed to be the appropriate tool for development in the information age.     Search for a resonance decaying to a W boson and a photon in proton-proton collisions at s= \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV using leptonic W boson decays

    A search for a new charged particle X with mass between 0.3 and 2.0 TeV decaying to a W boson and a photon is presented, using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb1 ^{-1} . Particle X has electric charge ± \pm 1 and is assumed to have spin 0. The search is performed using the electron and muon decays of the W boson. No significant excess above the predicted background is observed. The upper limit at 95% confidence level on the product of the production cross section of the X and its branching fraction to a W boson and a photon is found to be 94 (137) fb for a 0.3 TeV resonance and 0.75 (0.81) fb for a 2.0 TeV resonance, for an X width-to-mass ratio of 0.01% (5%). This search presents the most stringent constraints to date on the existence of such resonances across the probed mass range.     Measurements at s= \sqrt{s}= 13.6 TeV of the opposite-sign W boson pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions are presented. The data used in this study were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in 2022, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 34.8 fb1 ^{-1} . Events are selected by requiring one electron and one muon of opposite charge. A maximum likelihood fit is performed on signal- and background-enriched data categories defined by the flavour and charge of the leptons, the number of jets, and number of jets originating from b quarks. An inclusive W+^{+}W^{-} production cross section of 125.7 ± \pm 5.6 pb is measured, in agreement with standard model predictions. Cross sections are also reported in a fiducial region close to that of the detector acceptance, both inclusively and differentially, as a function of the jet multiplicity in the event.     Search for new physics in high-mass diphoton events from proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    International audienceResults are presented from a search for new physics in high-mass diphoton events from proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV. The data set was collected in 2016-2018 with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb1^{-1}. Events with a diphoton invariant mass greater than 500\GeV are considered. Two different techniques are used to predict the standard model backgrounds: parametric fits to the smoothly-falling background and a first-principles calculation of the standard model diphoton spectrum at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculations. The first technique is sensitive to resonant excesses while the second technique can identify broad differences in the invariant mass shape. The data are used to constrain the production of heavy Higgs bosons, Randall-Sundrum gravitons, the large extra dimensions model of Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, and Dvali (ADD), and the continuum clockwork mechanism. No statistically significant excess is observed. The present results are the strongest limits to date on ADD extra dimensions and RS gravitons with a coupling parameter greater than 0.1

    A search for the production of a W boson and a Higgs boson through vector boson scattering (VBS) is presented, using CMS data from proton-proton collisions at s= \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV collected from 2016 to 2018. The integrated luminosity of the data sample is 138 fb1 ^{-1} . Selected events must be consistent with the presence of two jets originating from VBS, the leptonic decay of the W boson to an electron or muon, and a Higgs boson decaying into a pair of b quarks, reconstructed as either a single merged jet or two resolved jets. A measurement of the process as predicted by the standard model (SM) is performed alongside a study of beyond-the-SM (BSM) scenarios. The SM analysis sets an observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limit of 14.3 (9.0) on the ratio of the measured VBS WH cross section to that expected by the SM. The BSM analysis, conducted within the so-called κ \kappa framework, excludes all scenarios with λWZ< \lambda_{\mathrm{W}\mathrm{Z}} < 0 that are consistent with current measurements, where λWZ=κW/κZ \lambda_{\mathrm{W}\mathrm{Z}} = \kappa_{\mathrm{W}}/\kappa_{\mathrm{Z}} and κW \kappa_{\mathrm{W}} and κZ \kappa_{\mathrm{Z}} are the HWW and HZZ coupling modifiers, respectively.
