Managing and extracting information from databases is one of the main goals in several fields, as in Formal Concept Analysis (FCA). One-sided concept lattices and multi-adjoint concept lattices are two frameworks in FCA that have been developed in parallel. This paper shows that one-sided concept lattices are particular cases of multi-adjoint concept lattices. As a first consequence of this characterization, a new attribute reduction mechanism has been introduced in the one-side framework. This research was partially supported by the 2014-2020 ERDF Operational Programme in collaboration with the State Research Agency (AEI) in Project PID2019-108991GB-I00 and with the Department of Economy, Knowledge, Business and University of the Regional Government of Andalusia in Project FEDER-UCA18-108612 and by the European Cooperation in Science & Technology (COST) Action CA17124

Who does what the cardiologist recommends? Psychosocial markers of unhealthy behavior in coronary disease patients

    Get PDF
Patients diagnosed with coronary heart disease should follow lifestyle recommendations that can reduce their cardiovascular risk (e.g., avoid smoking). However, some patients fail to follow these recommendations and engage in unhealthy behavior. With the aim to identify psychosocial factors that characterize patients at high risk of repeated cardiovascular events, we investigated the relationship between social support, mental health (coping, self-esteem, and perceived stress), and unhealthy behavior. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 419 patients recently diagnosed with coronary heart disease (myocardial infarction or angina) who participated in the National Health Survey in Spain (2018). Unhealthy behaviors were defined according to the European Guidelines on cardiovascular disease prevention. Only 1% of patients reported no unhealthy behaviors, with 11% reporting one, 40% two, 35% three, and 13% four or more unhealthy behaviors. In multiple regression controlling for demographic and traditional risk factors, mental health was the only significant psychosocial factor, doubling the odds of accumulated unhealthy behaviors, OR(high vs. low) = 2.03, 95% CI [1.14, 3.64]. Mental health was especially strongly related to unhealthy behavior among patients with obesity, OR(high vs. low) = 3.50, 95% CI [1.49, 8.45]. The relationship between mental health and unhealthy behaviors suggests that a large proportion of patients may not adhere to lifestyle recommendations not because they purposefully choose to do so, but because they lack coping skills to maintain the recommended healthy behaviors. Low mental well-being may be especially detrimental for behavior change of patients with obesity.Dafina Petrova is supported by a Juan de la Cierva Fellowship (FJCI-2016-28279) from the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Competitiveness. Tendencias en las tasas de hospitalización por ictus en Extremadura en el periodo 2002-2014. Cambiando la idea de ictus como una enfermedad propia de la senectud

    Get PDF
Existe suficiente evidencia que indica un cambio epidemiológico al aumentar la tasa de hospitalizaciones en adultos jóvenes.BACKGROUND: The incidence of stroke in Spain has been evaluated in several studies, whose results are highly variable and not comparable. No studies of stroke have analysed epidemiological changes in younger patients. METHOD: We conducted a retrospective observational study using the Spanish health system’s Minimum Data Set and included all patients older than 19 hospitalised due to stroke (ICD-9-CM codes 434.01, 434.11, 434.91, 430, 431, 432.9, 436, and 435) between 2002 and 2013. The analysis was performed using joinpoint regression. RESULTS: A total of 39 321 patients were identified (47.25% were women); 3.73% were aged 20-44, 6.29% were 45-54, 11.49% were 55-64, 23.89% were 65-74, and 54.60% were >74 years. The hospitalisation rate due to ischaemic stroke has increased significantly in men aged 45-54 (+6.7%; 95% CI, 3.3-10.2) and in women aged 20-44 and 45-54 (+6.1%; 95% CI, 0.8-11.7 and +5.7%; 95% CI, 3.0-8.4, respectively). We also observed a significant increase in the rate of hospitalisation due to ischaemic stroke in men aged over 74 (+4.2%; 95% CI, 1.3-7.2). The rate of hospitalisations due to transient ischaemic attack has also increased significantly whereas the rate of hospitalisations due to brain haemorrhage has stabilised over time. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide indirect evidence that the epidemiological profile of stroke is changing based on the increase in hospitalisation rates in young adults.• Sistema Extremeño de Salud. Introduction. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) is a self-report instrument designed to assess students' motivation and learning strategies (cognitive, meta-cognitive, and resource management). In the present study, we focused on translate, adapt and validate the MSLQ to Mexican educational context. Method. The original version of the MSLQ was translated and adapted to mexican education-al context under the name of Cuestionario de Motivación y Estrategias de Aprendizaje (CMEA) taking into account 22 guidelines established by the International Test Commission (ITC) and subsequently administered to mexican students (N=1,140) of a southeastern univer-sity of México. Results. Results allow concluding that the items were grouped in each of the factors using factorization of major axes. Internal consistency rates obtained were acceptable. Discussion and conclusion. The results show great power providing useful information about how this instrument can answer our initial question of self-regulated learning: How do stu-dents can become experts in their own learning processes? Role of age and sex in the diagnosis of early-stage malignant melanoma: A cross-sectional study

    Get PDF
Age and sex have been identified as predictors of outcome in malignant melanoma (MM). The aim of this multicentre, cross-sectional study was to analyse the role of age and sex as explanatory variables for the diagnosis of thin MM. A total of 2,430 patients with MM were recruited. Cases of in situ (Tis) and T1 MM were more frequent than T2–T4 MM (56.26% vs. 43.74%). Breslow thickness increased throughout decades of life (analysis of variance (ANOVA) p < 0.001), with a weak correlation between Breslow thickness and patient's age (r = 0.202, p < 0.001). Breslow thickness was significantly less in women (1.79 vs. 2.38 mm, p = 0.0001). Binary logistic regression showed a significant (p < 0.001) odds ratio for age 0–29 years (1.18), and 30–59 years (1.16), and for women (1.09). Age and sex explained 3.64% of the variation observed in Tis–T1 frequency (R2 = 0.0364). Age and sex appear to explain a low percentage of the variation in the early detection of MM

Maximal cluster sets of L-analytic functions along arbitrary curves

    Get PDF
Let Ω be a domain in the N-dimensional real space, L be an elliptic differential operator, and (Tn) be a sequence whose members belong to a certain class of operators defined on the space of L-analytic functions on Ω. It is proved in this paper the existence of a dense linear manifold of L-analytic functions all of whose nonzero members have maximal cluster sets under the action of every Tn along any curve ending at the boundary of Ω such that its ω-limit does not contain any component of the boundary. The above class contains all partial differentiation operators ∂ α, hence the statement extends earlier results due to Boivin, Gauthier and Paramonov, and to the first, third and fourth authors.Plan Andaluz de Investigación (Junta de Andalucía)Ministerio de Ciencia y TecnologíaFondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regiona

Universal Taylor series with maximal cluster sets

    Get PDF
We link the overconvergence properties of certain Taylor series in the unit disk to the maximality of their cluster sets, so connecting outer wild behavior to inner wild behavior. Specifically, it is proved the existence of a dense linear manifold of holomorphic functions in the disk that are, except for zero, universal Taylor series in the sense of Nestoridis and, simultaneously, have maximal cluster sets along many curves tending to the boundary. Moreover, it is constructed a dense linear manifold of universal Taylor series having, for each boundary point, limit zero along some path which is tangent to the corresponding radius. Finally, it is proved the existence of a closed infinite dimensional manifold of holomorphic functions enjoying the two-fold wild behavior specified at the beginning

Evolutionary learning using a sensitivity-accuracy approach for classification

    Get PDF
Accuracy alone is insufficient to evaluate the performance of a classifier especially when the number of classes increases. This paper proposes an approach to deal with multi-class problems based on Accuracy (C) and Sensitivity (S). We use the differential evolution algorithm and the ELM-algorithm (Extreme Learning Machine) to obtain multi-classifiers with a high classification rate level in the global dataset with an acceptable level of accuracy for each class. This methodology is applied to solve four benchmark classification problems and obtains promising results
