Oligopoly, regional development and the political economy of separatism, with a case study of the United Kingdom and Scotland
The present thesis aims to increase our understanding of the causes of separatism. The
inspiration for this topic comes from the fact that separatist conflicts can become extremely
destructive, and thus a better understanding of why they emerge may help us prevent much
human suffering by pointing to ways in which separatism can be avoided.
More specifically, the thesis aims to explain the link between separatism and regional
development disparities. The argument presented is that inter-regional economic conflicts
(such as about inter-regional fiscal redistribution) easily emerge between regions at different
levels of development, and that under certain conditions, particularly prolonged recessions and
austerity, such conflicts can become an important driver of separatist aspirations. This can
happen in both poorer and richer regions. The thesis further argues that this entire process can
only be fully understood if we analyse society through a class prism.
Given that regional development disparities often lie at the root of inter-regional economic
conflicts, one of the ways of avoiding such conflicts – and thus also separatism – would be to
equalize regional development levels. In order to do so, however, we first need to understand
why regional disparities emerge and persist. Focusing on capitalist countries, the thesis argues
that the disparities emerge as a natural consequence of the operation of oligopolistic markets,
which are the dominant market form in capitalism. Regional development policies are explored
at length, and it is argued that they are generally insufficient to overcome the tendency of
markets to produce regional disparities.
All the topics in the thesis are explored at the general level and for a larger number of
countries, but the main in-depth case study is of regional disparities in the United Kingdom
and how they relate to Scottish separatism.Gates Cambridge Scholarshi
PRODUCTION OF PORK ON PIG FARMS WITH MINIMAL PRODUCTION COSTS
The study deals with the analysis in the development of pork production, as and the economic analysis of the farmer in the production conditions of the pig breeding farms in the Republic of Serbia. The survey included a cooperative farm "1. December "in Žitorađa in Toplič District. In 2016, technology was monitored production of farmer at the farm, and analyzed economic results in production. During the observed period, it was found that 35,442 heads were farmed at the farm. The price of a 100 kg per 100 kg cost was 132 euros, while pork meat in half-carcasses cost 1.84 euros / kg. The average weight of the hemisphere on the farm is equal to about 78.5 kg. The proportion of pig meat in the hemisphere varies from 79% to 78%
Genomic investigations of unexplained acute hepatitis in children
Since its first identification in Scotland, over 1,000 cases of unexplained paediatric hepatitis in children have been reported worldwide, including 278 cases in the UK1. Here we report an investigation of 38 cases, 66 age-matched immunocompetent controls and 21 immunocompromised comparator participants, using a combination of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and immunohistochemical methods. We detected high levels of adeno-associated virus 2 (AAV2) DNA in the liver, blood, plasma or stool from 27 of 28 cases. We found low levels of adenovirus (HAdV) and human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) in 23 of 31 and 16 of 23, respectively, of the cases tested. By contrast, AAV2 was infrequently detected and at low titre in the blood or the liver from control children with HAdV, even when profoundly immunosuppressed. AAV2, HAdV and HHV-6 phylogeny excluded the emergence of novel strains in cases. Histological analyses of explanted livers showed enrichment for T cells and B lineage cells. Proteomic comparison of liver tissue from cases and healthy controls identified increased expression of HLA class 2, immunoglobulin variable regions and complement proteins. HAdV and AAV2 proteins were not detected in the livers. Instead, we identified AAV2 DNA complexes reflecting both HAdV-mediated and HHV-6B-mediated replication. We hypothesize that high levels of abnormal AAV2 replication products aided by HAdV and, in severe cases, HHV-6B may have triggered immune-mediated hepatic disease in genetically and immunologically predisposed children

MANAGEMENT PRODUCTION OF ENTERPRISES INVOLVED IN THE PURCHASE
The aim was to discuss organizational and economic issues of some major
business indices of an enterprise. An overview of organizational and economic as
well as technical and technological segments of an enterprise was given and links
and relationships were described. The objective was to analyze positive business
results in the enterprise focused on the purchase and processing of mushrooms,
wild fruits and medicinal plants but also to mitigate or eliminate any adverse
effects influencing business activitie

Asymmetric Primaquine and Halogenaniline Fumardiamides as Novel Biologically Active Michael Acceptors
Novel primaquine (PQ) and halogenaniline asymmetric fumardiamides 4a⁻f, potential Michael acceptors, and their reduced analogues succindiamides 5a⁻f were prepared by simple three-step reactions: coupling reaction between PQ and mono-ethyl fumarate (1a) or mono-methyl succinate (1b), hydrolysis of PQ-dicarboxylic acid mono-ester conjugates 2a,b to corresponding acids 3a,b, and a coupling reaction with halogenanilines. 1-[bis(Dimethylamino)methylene]-1H-1,2,3-triazolo[4,5-b]pyridinium 3-oxide hexafluorophosphate (HATU) was used as a coupling reagent along with Hünig's base. Compounds 4 and 5 were evaluated against a panel of bacteria, several Mycobacterium strains, fungi, a set of viruses, and nine different human tumor cell lines. p-Chlorofumardiamide 4d showed significant activity against Staphylococcus aureus,Streptococcus pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii, but also against Candida albicans (minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) 6.1⁻12.5 µg/mL). Together with p-fluoro and p-CF₃ fumardiamides 4b,f, compound 4d showed activity against Mycobacterium marinum and 4b,f against M. tuberculosis. In biofilm eradication assay, most of the bacteria, particularly S. aureus, showed susceptibility to fumardiamides. m-CF₃ and m-chloroaniline fumardiamides 4e and 4c showed significant antiviral activity against reovirus-1, sindbis virus and Punta Toro virus (EC50 = 3.1⁻5.5 µM), while 4e was active against coxsackie virus B4 (EC50 = 3.1 µM). m-Fluoro derivative 4a exerted significant cytostatic activity (IC50 = 5.7⁻31.2 μM). Acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells were highly susceptible towards m-substituted derivatives 4a,c,e (IC50 = 6.7⁻8.9 μM). Biological evaluations revealed that fumardiamides 4 were more active than succindiamides 5 indicating importance of Michael conjugated system.status: publishe
