    “Are You Ready?” Revisiting Needs Analysis for ESP Online Conversation Course

    It is common to be found in an ESP class where the students are not fully engaged in the learning activities due to their lack of interests toward English. To attract the ESP students’ interests, authentic materials and meaningful activities need to be provided. Online learning can bring authentic materials to ESP students and give them meaningful activities as they can interact with native speakers of English through many online platforms. To fit the students’ online learning situations to their learning experiences, as well as the materials and activities to be given, a needs analysis should be carried out. The study focuses on discovering the ESP students’ preparedness in performing an online English conversation course by conducting a needs analysis. Questionnaires were given to 82 students and an interview was performed with 17 students to gain the data. The data collected in the form of percentages were analyzed by describing them qualitatively. From the analysis, it can be concluded that the ESP students were prepared to join the online English conversation course

    EXPANDING PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE AND SENSE OF TOLERANCE ON “THE WORLD THROUGH ENGLISH TEXTBOOK”

    ABSTRACTCharacter education is needed to shape the students’ characters, one of which is the sense of being tolerant toward differences of cultures in societies around the world. Textbooks are suitable to introduce this value. This study is aimed to develop a primary school source of learning which significantly promotes the value of tolerance in the content. This textbook is aimed to introduce cultures from several parts of the world and stimulates the students' awareness of appreciating diversity. Plomp’s Model in 1997 research dan development (R&D) design is utilized in this present study. The finding shows the researchers can develop an English textbook entitled "The World through English". This book guides the students to enhance their knowledge and sense of tolerance into the level of warm tolerance according to the Interpersonal Tolerance Scale (IPTS) proposed by Thomae (2016). As a result, this study shows that the development of an English textbook with persuasive tolerance value is acceptable and easily comprehended by elementary school students.ABSTRAKPendidikan karakter diperlukan untuk membentuk karakter peserta didik, salah satunya adalah rasa toleran terhadap perbedaan budaya dalam masyarakat di seluruh dunia. Buku teks cocok untuk memperkenalkan nilai ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sumber belajar sekolah dasar yang secara signifikan mengedepankan nilai toleransi dalam muatannya. Buku ajar ini bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan budaya dari berbagai belahan dunia dan merangsang kesadaran siswa untuk menghargai keberagaman. Model Plomp pada tahun 1997 desain penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Temuan menunjukkan peneliti dapat mengembangkan buku teks bahasa Inggris berjudul "The World through English". Buku ini membimbing siswa untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan rasa toleransi ke tingkat toleransi hangat menurut Skala Toleransi Interpersonal (IPTS) yang diusulkan oleh Thomae (2016).     The implementation of community service aimed at improving the English proficiency of the students in study house. The methods applied in this training were the provision of materials and practice. The provision of materials was the provision of guidance and explanation of the theory of English. After that, the teacher gave the questions and asked the students to do and practice dialogue in English. There were two study houses namely home study in Sido Rahayu and in Pandan Landung. The results of the activities were: at Sido Rahayu home study: 100% students always came and followed the activities held twice a week. 90% students understood the material and could work on the questions given by the teacher in writing. 80% students could do independently and could do a conversation.At Pandan Landung home study: 100% students always actively came. 75% students really understood the material and could work on the questions in writing. 6o% students could do independently the problems given by teachers and could do a simple conversation

    Supporting Staffs’ Understanding on Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka: A Case Study in Universitas Islam Malang

    Abstract: The study is conducted to find out the understanding of the supporting staffs in Universitas Islam Malang on Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy. The MBKM policy is related to giving the students flexibility in learning to enable them acquire more expertise in different departments or universities. As a part of the university stakeholders, the supporting staffs need to have complete understanding on the policy to support the implementation of the policy in Universitas Islam Malang. The study is a case study that employed mixed method approach by using surveys and interviews as the instruments. Form the collected data, it can be concluded that the supporting staffs in Universitas Islam Malang have known the policy, but have not completely understood all of the substances yet. Some of the substances that have not been understood are related to the semesters allowed for the students to learn outside their own departments and the number of credits given to the students as a form of recognition on the competences they earned from joining the MBKM activities. Therefore, more continuous socializations about the policy are still need to be carried out by the university and/or the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia. Keywords: supporting staffs; understanding; flexible learning; Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdek

    Kebersihan lingkungan dan kebersihan diri adalah faktor utama dalam mewujudkan masyarakat yang sehat. Pengelolaan sampah menjadi salah satu permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam menciptakan, menjaga, dan meningkatkan kebersihan lingkungan. Selain itu dalam situasi pandemi COVID-19 saat ini, menjaga kebersihan tangan sebagai bagian kebersihan diri mutlak dilakukan sebagai salah satu upaya pencegahan penyebaran COVID-19. Di Desa Glanggang, Kecamatan Pakisaji, Kabupaten Malang, masyarakat masih kurang peduli terhadap kebersihan lingkungan dan masih kurang memahami pentingnya menjaga kebersihan tangan. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menekankan pada pelaksanaan berbagai kegiatan sosialisasi peduli lingkungan dan pentingnya mencuci tangan. Langkah-langkah yang dilaksanakan dalam pelaksanaan program ini adalah pengadaan tempat sampah dan tempat cuci tangan di beberapa tempat publik di desa tersebut, serta pembagian hand sanitizer kepada warga desa. Berbagai langkah ini dilakukan dalam jangka waktu tiga minggu dan mendapat sambutan baik dari warga desa. Diharapkan berbagai kegiatan yang dilakukan tersebut dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih baik dan menumbuhkan kesadaran warga Desa Glanggang tentang pentingnya kebersihan lingkungan dan kebiasaan menjaga kebersihan tangan sebagai upaya untuk mewujudkan masyarakat desa yang sehat

    Designing an English Coursebook for Senior Executive Administrative Assistants for English Department Students Based on Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI)

    Designing a comprehensive course book for English for Business is a challenging endeavor that requires a deep understanding of the unique linguistic and professional needs of learners. In the rapidly evolving landscape of international business communication, educators and instructional designers face a lot of obstacles that must be addressed in order to create a truly effective and relevant course book. This study aims to create a coursebook for an English for Business class based on SKKNI in the scheme of executive administrative assistants. The instructor must construct their own coursebook because SKKNI does not give references. Most studies, however, claimed that generating ESP content is challenging due to a lack of sources, assistance, and a national curriculum. Theoretically, this research is based on Borg and Gall's RnD steps, and just 5 steps have been chosen to conduct this research. The researchers conducted expert validation to evaluate the coursebook and administered a questionnaire to students. The coursebook was judged good (73%) by expert validators with some revisions and 79% by students with several features needing improvement in various categories such as typeface, illustration, and mistyped words

    Jamu merupakan bagian dari pengobatan tradisional yang sudah dimanfaatkan sejak lama, sehingga menjadi wujud kearifan lokal yang perlu dilestarikan. Jamu tradisional Indonesia umumnya terbuat dari tanaman, terutama rempah-rempah, yang memiliki banyak manfaat, salah satunya sebagai peningkat daya tahan tubuh. Hal ini membuat jamu cocok untuk dikonsumsi sebagai metode alternatif dalam meningkatkan imunitas tubuh dan mencegah penularan saat pandemi Covid-19. Beberapa jenis rempah yang umum digunakan untuk membuat jamu adalah kunyit, jahe, dan lengkuas. Pada kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang merupakan bagian dari program Kandidat Sarjana Mengabdi (KSM) Tematik Unisma ini, mahasiswa peserta melakukan pembuatan minuman jamu tradisional siap konsumsi dan sosialisasi manfaat jamu serta penerapan protokol Kesehatan kepada warga Kelurahan Dinoyo, Kota Malang. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan dalam kegiatan ini adalah persiapan bahan-bahan pembuatan jamu, pengolahan bahan-bahan pembuatan jamu, pengemasan minuman jamu siap konsumsi, dan pendistribusian minuman jamu siap konsumsi kepada masyarakat. Sosialisasi manfaat jamu dan pentingnya penerapan protokol kesehatan kepada warga dilakukan saat minuman jamu didistribusikan dari rumah ke rumah. Diharapkan warga dapat terus mengonsumsi jamu tradisional sebagai upaya peningkatan imunitas tubuh dan selalu taat menerapkan protokol kesehatan untuk mengurangi laju kasus positif Covid-19. Diharapkan juga kegiatan ini dapat memberikan inspirasi bagi warga untuk menginisiasi suatu usaha rumah tangga, yaitu pembuatan minuman jamu siap konsumsi, dalam rangka meningkatkan perekonomian keluarga
