Whooping cough is an acute, severe infectious disease of the respiratory tract during childhood, in which patients will have a persistent cough, specific inspiratory whoop, and vomiting after cough. The microorganism that causes this disease is called Bordetella Pertussis, which is a gram-negative non-mobile rod-shaped cocci bacillus. All ages are susceptible. In the prevaccine era, almost all children became infected. Afghanistan is not an exception. Whooping cough remains a significant cause of childhood mortality and a serious health problem. In the world, about 60 million people get whooping cough every year. More than 1 million children die, especially in the first year of life. Research Question (WHY PERTUSSIS IS IMPORTANT) Infants and Children Pertussis affects all ages, but most severely infants, who experience the highest age-specific incidence and account for almost all pertussis hospitalizations and deaths. Case of whooping cough in the khost post graduated hospital From the 1399/01/01 to 1399/12/30

The implementation of temporary endowment in Kuwait

Temporary waqf is a restricted endowment for a specific duration. This paper examines Kuwait Law of Waqf and the contemporary implementation of temporary waqf in Kuwait. The research shows that Kuwait law of waqf allowed the application of all types of waqf as temporary, the duration of waqf should not exceed sixty years and no more than two layers of generations. This paper proposes to encourage other Islamic countries to implement this concept of temporary waqf as an alternative benefit

Oesophageal duplication cyst presenting as haemoptysis

Duplications of the alimentary tract include a variety of cysts, diverticula, and tubular malformations, all believed to have embryological origin. The cysts are most commonly found in children, and the diagnosis is made in infancy in the majority of patients. We report a case of a two-and-a-half year old child, presenting with the history of repeated episodes of haematemesis. Upper GI endoscopy was unremarkable and the chest x-ray showed no pathology. Computed tomography (CT) angiogram revealed soft tissue density lesion in the right chest at the level of T6. Right thoracotomy suggested a cystic mass close to the oesophagus which was shown on histopathology to be lined with gastric mucosa consistent with oesophageal duplication cyst. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of its kind reported from Pakistan

Ultraviolet Emission Lines in Young Low Mass Galaxies at z~2: Physical Properties and Implications for Studies at z>7

We present deep spectroscopy of 17 very low mass (M* ~ 2.0x10^6 Msun to 1.4x10^9 Msun) and low luminosity (M_UV ~ -13.7 to -19.9) gravitationally lensed galaxies in the redshift range z~1.5-3.0. Deep rest-frame ultraviolet spectra reveal large equivalent width emission from numerous lines (NIV], OIII], CIV, Si III], CIII]) which are rarely seen in individual spectra of more massive star forming galaxies. CIII] is detected in 16 of 17 low mass star forming systems with rest-frame equivalent widths as large as 13.5 Angstroms. Nebular CIV emission is present in the most extreme CIII] emitters, requiring an ionizing source capable of producing a substantial component of photons with energies in excess of 47.9 eV. Photoionization models support a picture whereby the large equivalent widths are driven by the increased electron temperature and enhanced ionizing output arising from metal poor gas and stars, young stellar populations, and large ionization parameters. The young ages implied by the emission lines and continuum SEDs indicate that the extreme line emitters in our sample are in the midst of a significant upturn in their star formation activity. The low stellar masses, blue UV colors, and large sSFRs of our sample are similar to those of typical z>6 galaxies. Given the strong attenuation of Ly-alpha in z>6 galaxies we suggest that CIII] is likely to provide our best probe of early star forming galaxies with ground-based spectrographs and one of the most efficient means of confirming z>10 galaxies with the James Webb Space Telescope.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA

Optical Identification of Cepheids in 19 Host Galaxies of Type Ia Supernovae and NGC 4258 with the Hubble Space Telescope

We present results of an optical search for Cepheid variable stars using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) in 19 hosts of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) and the maser-host galaxy NGC 4258, conducted as part of the SH0ES project (Supernovae and H0 for the Equation of State of dark energy). The targets include 9 newly imaged SN Ia hosts using a novel strategy based on a long-pass filter that minimizes the number of HST orbits required to detect and accurately determine Cepheid properties. We carried out a homogeneous reduction and analysis of all observations, including new universal variability searches in all SN Ia hosts, that yielded a total of 2200 variables with well-defined selection criteria -- the largest such sample identified outside the Local Group. These objects are used in a companion paper to determine the local value of H0 with a total uncertainty of 2.4%.Comment: ApJ, in press. v2 adds missing co-author to arXiv metadata and text in acknowledgment

Fitting inverse power-law quintessence models using the SNAP satellite

    Get PDF
We investigate the possibility of using the proposed SNAP satellite in combination with low-z supernova searches to distinguish between different inverse power-law quintessence models. If the true model is that of a cosmological constant, we determine the prospects of ruling out the inverse power-law potential. We show that SNAP combined with e.g. the SNfactory and an independent measurement of the mass energy density to 17% accuracy can distinguish between an inverse power-law potential and a cosmological constant and put severe constraints on the power-law exponent.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure
