New Landfill System in North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia

    Get PDF
Most waste disposal sites in developing country are still using open dumping and open burning However, in developing countries, there are a lot of economically and technical problems with high level landfill technologies of first world countries making implementation of improvement not feasible. Therefore, there is significant need for transfer of landfill technology that is simpler, low cost, and that can be maintained locally. A method that provides this that has recently gathered attention is the Fukuoka Method (semi-aerobic landfill). By life cycle cost analysis method, with the lifespan of the landfill is 20 years and an estimated volume of 586,789 m3 (469,431tonnes), the capital investment required was about US296,739(naturalclayliner)andUS296,739 (natural clay liner) and US463,406 (synthetic-liner) or about US0.63andUS0.63 and US0.99/tone of waste, the total cost of operation was about US3,187,728orUS3,187,728 or US6.79/ton of waste. The closure cost of the landfill was estimated to beUS278,116orUS278,116 or US0.59/ton of waste

Bandwidth enhancement of rectangular dielectric resonator antenna using circular slot coupled technique

    Get PDF
This article presents a technique to enhance the bandwidth of a rectangular dielectric resonator antenna using a circular slot. The structures are designed and simulated using CST Microwave Studio software, and it is found that the circular slot exhibits a bandwidth of 36.44% (0.92-1.33 GHz). The circular slot is compared with the rectangular slot. It is shown that the rectangular slot produces a bandwidth of 6.39% (1.06-1.13 GHz). Both structures exhibit similar radiation patterns with slightly different gains at 3.10 and 3.25 dBi. The bandwidth is enhanced more than five times using the circular slot, compared to the rectangular slot

Multilevel inverter switching controller using a field programmable gate array (FPGA)

    Get PDF
This paper presents the design and development of a switching controller using a field programmable gate array (FPGA)for a multilevel inverter application. SHE with PSO switching strategy was chosen and pre-calculated offline to obtain optimized switching angles for the power switches in the 5-level transistor-clamped H-bridge (TCHB) multilevel inverter. The designed switching controller produced 5-bit control signals, which connected to the power switches of the 5-level TCHB multilevel inverter. The switching controller utilized less than 1% of the total FPGA logic elements (LEs), which was equivalent to 96 out of 114,480 LEs. The execution speed of the switching controller using the FPGA chip was found to be 99.9% faster than microcontroller (PIC16F877A). Conducted simulation and measurement results verified and validated the switching controller design functionality and requirement. Keywords: multilevel inverter, switching controller; FPGA, general purpose processor(GPP);digital signal processing (DSP); IGBT; Verilog, power consumption;harmonic elimination (SHE).

Single-, Dual- and Triple-band Frequency Reconfigurable Antenna

    Get PDF
The paper presents a frequency reconfigurable slot dipole antenna. The antenna is capable of being switched between single-band, dual-band or triple-band operation. The antenna incorporates three pairs of pin-diodes which are located within the dipole arms. The antenna was designed to operate at 2.4 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 5.2 GHz using the aid of CST Microwave Studio. The average measured gains are 1.54, 2.92 and 1.89 dBi for low, mid and high band respectively. A prototype was then constructed in order to verify the performance of the device. A good level of agreement was observed between simulation and measurement

The purpose of this study was to determine the best ratio of powdered cocoa pod husk for bio-capsule production and to determine damage of polyphenol powder and antioxidant after encapsulation ofcocoa pod husk. In this study, absolute ethanol solvent as a polar solvent was used to extract polyphenol compounds. A Completely Randommized design with treatments of four different wieghts of cacao pod husk were used i.e. 20g, 25g, 30g and 35 g. The highest capacity of antioxidant and supplement was shown by the 20 g cocoa pod husk treatment containing 11803.56 mg ascorbat, 83.15 g total phenol ase gallat. This results indicate that the total phenol of the cacao pod husk decrease by 77.40% along with lowering antioxidant capacity by 18.66%. Decreased level of the total phenol and antioxidant capacity is due to damage occuring during concenrating and drying proceses of the supplement materials

Cerebellar Mutism Following Closed Head Injury in a Child

    Get PDF
Cerebellar mutism is a rare occurrence following paediatric trauma. Although it is quite common after posterior fossa surgery in children, this phenomenon has rarely been reported following other insults, such as trauma, and its pathophysiology remains poorly understood. We report a seven-year-old child who presented to the casualty department of Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat, Oman, in May 2013 with a traumatic right cerebellar contusion. The child presented with clinical features of cerebellar mutism but underwent a rapid and spontaneous recovery. The possible mechanism of this occurrence is discussed

Single channel magnetic induction spectroscopy technique for fetal acidosis detection

    Get PDF
Current fetal acidosis diagnosis needs an invasive measurement which required a doctor to puncture fetal scalp to acquire blood pH. This method introduced risk to the fetal which fetal scalp may bruise and infected. This paper discusses a noninvasive method employing a single channel magnetic induction spectroscopy technique as an alternative method to diagnose acidosis in fetal without puncturing the fetal scalp. The studies are based on numerical simulation models to investigate the most feasible sensor coil that is sensitive and effective to be implemented in hardware setup as the shape of coil influences directly the sensing performance of the magnetic induction spectroscopy system. The study has found that the circular coil is more sensitive than linear coil. The system tested with different pH samples to mimic the blood pH value. The result is very promising with good correlation approaching 1 has been achieved. Therefore, magnetic induction spectroscopy technique has good opportunity to be applied as an alternative method to detect acidosis in the fetal with circular coil is performed as the best sensing coils for MIS hardware

Dengue fatality prediction using data mining

Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus is life-threatening. In Malaysia, although necessary control measures have been carried out, the number of dengue fever cases keeps increasing. Among the measures, dengue vector control appears to be the most effective way to control the spread of the dengue virus particularly in Malaysia. The aim of this research is to study the current implementation of dengue outbreak control in Malaysia and predict dengue fever cases using data mining techniques. Real data on dengue fever and weather are collected from the Ministry of Health in its Perak Tengah district office and Perak Meteorological office respectively. Different data mining classification techniques are applied onto these data with the performance of each technique is measured. The results highlight the best performance among techniques used. Keywords: data mining; prediction; dengue; classification
