    Determination of the Heat Distribution in the Raw Cotton Packed in the Coil

    As a result of experimental studies, a special mathematical model of raw cotton is developed. The effect of density change on the thermal conductivity coefficient is determined. A nonlinear differential equation of heat propagation in coils is obtained. The dependence of the density of raw cotton on the coil height is determined experimentally. The heat flux is intense propagating from denser layers of raw cotton to less dense ones. In a saturated form, the effect of density changes on the propagation of heat is less than in the coils. Pocket spontaneous heating occurs locally with sharp boundaries.An expression is found, which is the general solution of the mathematical model of heat propagation in raw cotton in coils, on the basis of which a number of physical real models can be constructed.The model allows to preliminarily give an estimation of the likely picture of the temperature field in the given microvolumes of raw cotton

    Low-Dose Continuous 5-Fluorouracil Combined with Leucovorin, nab-Paclitaxel, Oxaliplatin, and Bevacizumab for Patients with Advanced Pancreatic Cancer: A Retrospective Analysis.

    BackgroundContinuous-infusion 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and calcium leucovorin plus nab-paclitaxel and oxaliplatin have been shown to be active in patients with pancreatic cancer. As a protracted low-dose infusion, 5FU is antiangiogenic, and has synergy with bevacizumab. As shown in the treatment of breast cancer, bevacizumab and nab-paclitaxel are also synergetic.ObjectiveIn this paper we retrospectively analyze the survival of 65 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer who were treated with low-dose continuous (metronomic) chemotherapy given in conjunction with conventional anti-VEGF therapy.Patients and methodsSince July of 2008, we have treated 65 patients with 5FU (180 mg/m2/day × 14 days) via an ambulatory pump. Calcium leucovorin (20 mg/m2 IV), nab-paclitaxel (60 mg/m2) IV as a 30-min infusion, and oxaliplatin (50 mg/m2) IV as a 60-min infusion were given on days 1, 8, and 15. Bevacizumab (5 mg/kg) IV over 30 min was administered on days 1 and 15. Cycles were repeated every 28-35 days. There were 42 women and 23 men, and the median age was 59 years. Forty-six patients had stage IV disease.ResultsThe median survival was 19 months, with 82% of patients surviving 12 months or longer. The overall response rate was 49%. There were 28 patients who had received prior treatment, 15 of whom responded to therapy. Fifty-two patients had elevated CA 19-9 prior to treatment. Of these, 21 patients had 90% or greater reduction in CA 19-9 levels. This cohort had an objective response rate of 71% and a median survival of 27 months. Thirty patients stopped treatment due to disease progression, and an additional 22 stopped because of toxicity. One patient died while on therapy.ConclusionsThis non-gemcitabine-based regimen resulted in higher response rates and better survival than what is commonly observed with therapy given at conventional dosing schedules. Low-dose continuous (metronomic therapy) cytotoxic chemotherapy combined with antiangiogenic therapy is safe and effective

    A pilot study evaluating concordance between blood-based and patient-matched tumor molecular testing within pancreatic cancer patients participating in the Know Your Tumor (KYT) initiative

    Recent improvements in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology have enabled detection of biomarkers in cell-free DNA in blood and may ultimately replace invasive tissue biopsies. However, a better understanding of the performance of blood-based NGS assays is needed prior to routine clinical use. As part of an IRBapproved molecular profiling registry trial of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) patients, we facilitated blood-based NGS testing of 34 patients from multiple community-based and high-volume academic oncology practices. 23 of these patients also underwent traditional tumor tissue-based NGS testing. cfDNA was not detected in 9/34 (26%) patients. Overall concordance between blood and tumor tissue NGS assays was low, with only 25% sensitivity of blood-based NGS for tumor tissue NGS. Mutations in KRAS, the major PDA oncogene, were only detected in 10/34 (29%) blood samples, compared to 20/23 (87%) tumor tissue biopsies. The presence of mutations in circulating DNA was associated with reduced overall survival (54% in mutation-positive versus 90% in mutation-negative). Our results suggest that in the setting of previously treated, advanced PDA, liquid biopsies are not yet an adequate substitute for tissue biopsies. Further refinement in defining the optimal patient population and timing of blood sampling may improve the value of a blood-based test. © Pishvaian et al

    Potential Mercurian Analogues: Aubrite and Enstatite Chondrite Impact Melt Meteorites

    The MESSENGER (MErcury Surface Space ENvironment GEochemistry and Ranging Spacecraft) mission provided new data that have helped us better constrain the surficial mineralogy and composition of Mercury. Mercury has an extremely low oxygen fugacity (f O2) (Iron Wustite (IW) -7.3 to IW -2.6), and at these unique conditions, elements, which usually exhibit lithophile behavior on Earth, can exhibit chalcophile or siderophile behavior on Mercury. No samples have been returned from Mercury; therefore, we must study candidate meteorite analogs to better understand the formation conditions of minerals inferred to be present at the Mercurian surface and Mercurian magmatic processes. In this study, we present a comprehensive analysis of a representative suite of eight aubrites and four enstatite chondrite impact melts (ECIM), which both have a similar f O2 to Mercury, and contain exotic sulfides that have been inferred to be present at the Mercurian surface. These characteristics allow us to assess their relevance for understanding the mineralogy and magmatic processes of Mercury. The ECIM were previously classified as aubrites, but we show that they are actually ECIM with a potential EH (high enstatite) parent body origin due to the presence of niningerite, Si-enriched kamacite, and uniform Ni in schreibersite. We propose that, with respect to the aubrites, the ECIM represent an ideal candidate for Mercurian studies due to their mineralogy and modal mineralogy. Compared to the aubrites, the ECIM samples do not contain forsterite or diopside, show a poorer sulfide diversity, contain graphite, and have a higher volume percentage of metal phases. Although the Mercurian surface contains forsterite and diopside, graphite and a similar amount of metal and sulfides as seen in the ECIM are inferred to be present on Mercury. According to the calculated normative Mercurian mineralogy, both candidate meteorites are most analogous to the Caloris Basin and Northern Plains Lower Mg regions

    New data obtained during the MESSENGER mission has allowed us to better contrain the composition and mineralogy of the mercurian surface. One unique feature of Mercury is its extremely low oxygen fugacity (O2) (Iron Wustite (IW) -7.3 to IW-2.6). At such extreme conditions, elements that exhibit lithophile behavior on Earth can exhibit chalcophile or siderophile behavior, leading to the formation of exotic sulfides and metals. As no samples have been returned from Mercury, it is critical to study meteorite analogs to better under-stand the formation conditions of the minerals present at the mercurian surface, as well as mercurian magmatic processes. Given the low fO2 on Mercury, we have selected to investigate potential meteoritic analogs for Mercury among the most reduced meteorite types, including the aubrites and enstatite chondrite impact melts. The aubrites are differentiated meteorites that show varying degrees of brecciation, have a similar O2 to the mercurian surface and interior, and contain exotic sulfides that have been inferred to be present on the mercurian surface. The enstatite chondrite impact melts are from undifferentiated parent bodies, have a similar O2 to the mercurian surface and interior, and contain exotic sulfides that have been inferred to be present on the mercurian surface. In this study, we present a comprehensive analysis of a representative suite of aubrites and enstatite chondrite impact melts and assess their relevance to under-standing magmatic processes on Mercury

    Development of a Multifunctional Laser Hair Removal Patch

    Background The objective of this study was to develop a patch that can be placed on the skin during laser hair removal and similar procedures, that serves to reduce the laser-induced plume, provides a ready indicator to the laser surgeon of where pulses have been applied, and cools the skin. Methods A two-layer patch composed of a cooling hydrogel layer and an indicator layer was optimized and tested ex vivo. The hydrogel was composed of gelatin and glycerin. The concentration of each hydrogel component was optimized to determine the minimum gelatin concentration at which the gel can be handled without breakage and the minimum glycerin concentration that allows for storage at −20°C without crystallization. This is the temperature of a conventional freezer; application of the cooling layer to the skin would help prevent epidermal injury. The indicator layer was composed of a plastic transparency sheet with small dots of black ink particles printed onto its surface. Transparency sheets were printed from templates created in Adobe Photoshop in which dots are at a specified density; additionally, Photoshop’s opacity function was used to vary the opacity of the dots themselves. Performance was tested using a 755 nm alexandrite laser used clinically for hair removal by measuring light transmission through the patch and observing the sheet’s ability to indicate the location of laser exposures. The transmittance of patch components across a broad spectrum was also measured using a microplate reader. Several adhesives, including a two-part epoxy, silicone rubber, and cyanoacrylate, were tested for their ability to adhere to the hydrogel and indicator layers. Assembled patches composed of the hydrogel layer, indicator layer, and adhesive were tested ex vivo for their ability to mitigate the laser hair removal plume by measuring airborne particulate matter during simulated laser hair removal. Results A minimum gelatin concentration of 5% was found to enable easy handling of the hydrogel. A mixture composed of 60% water and 40% glycerin by volume consistently allowed storage at −20°C without crystallization. For the indicator layer, ink particle density of 50% and opacity of 5% provided a readily apparent indicator function following laser exposure. Transmission through the sheet measured during alexandrite laser exposures was 90% and was not different than transmission through the sheet alone without ink particles. A cyanoacrylate glue was found to adhere to the hydrogel and indicator layers, while the other adhesives proved inadequate. Measurements using a microplate reader confirmed that the reflection from the transparency sheet itself was the primary contributor to energy loss. In experiments exposing hair clippings to the laser with and without the patch, the patch allowed an increase of 5000 particles/cc relative to baseline particles in the environmental air, while the absence of the patch allowed an increase of 150,000 particles/cc relative to baseline, indicating that the patch decreased particle debris in the plume by 97%. Conclusions A two-layer patch composed of hydrogel and plastic indicator layer with cyanoacrylate adhesive can be stored in a conventional freezer without crystallization, then placed over an area of skin to be treated for laser hair removal. The patch clearly indicates the pattern and sites of laser exposure, while blocking almost all (97%) of particles in the laser-induced plume. Future work will include safety validation and in vivo testing of efficacy, as these were not undertaken in this study

    Aubrite and Impact Melt Enstatite Chondrite Meteorites as Potential Analogs to Mercury

    The MESSENGER (MErcury Sur-face, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry and Ranging) orbiter measured the Mercurian surface abundances of key rock-forming elements to help us better understand the planet's surface and bulk geochemistry. A major discovery is that the Mercurian surface and interior are characterized by an extremely low oxygen fugacity (O2; Iron-Wstite (IW) -7.3 to IW-2.6. This is supported by low Fe and high S abundances on the surface. This low O2 causes a different elemental partioning from what is observed on Earth. Using surface composition, it was shown that the Mercurian surface mainly consists of normative plagioclase, pyroxene, olivine, and exotic sulfides, such as niningerite ((Mg,Mn, Fe)S) and oldhamite (CaS)

    Ethnonyms in Karabakh Folklore and their Linguistic Characteristics

    Onomastic units in the language are related to folklore and all spiritual values. Language is not part of a culture, but it accumulates cultural ideas throughout its history, the world and human concepts through linguistic means, in other words, in words, phrases, specific lexical layers, and sometimes even in grammar. Language serves as the material of cultural expression while being the meta-language of culture, which fixes the meanings, motives and interpretations of oral texts in verbal forms. Viewing language as a source of cultural codes, forms of expression of cultural tradition, study and reference for regeneration of ancient culture, along with folklore texts, ceremonies, and folk, would be more accurate.The ancient history and geography of the people live in the language. The names of ancient tribes, clans and peoples that existed in the homeland of the language speakers have been preserved in folklore examples and have survived to this day. Tribe, folk names - ethnonyms are onomastic units frequently in Karabakh folklore.Information about Azerbaijan's ancient and medieval ethnonyms can be found mainly in the works of ancient authors and Persian-language texts from the medieval period.The study of ethnonyms is also helpful from the historical point of view of the Azerbaijani language. The phonetic differences between the written forms of ethnonyms in the sources and their pronounced documents in our toponymy are significant.The article is based on examples collected and compiled from the book of 10 volumes, "Karabakh: folklore is also a History", published by the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.     L' objectif pour cet étude est mettre l 'accent sur une question qui pose des interrogations  tant sur le plan légal que pratique, en effet le mécanisme de la TVA   constitué par deux grandes composantes : à savoir la taxation du chiffre d' affaires et les déduction de TVA grevant les intrants d’ une opération ne peut donner lieu qu' un débit de taxe ( taxe payée au trésors ), si d' autres conditions on été réunies comme par exemple l' application des taux uniques  de TVA tant  l'amant qu' à l 'aval de la même opération, or dans la réalité et au vu de la structure des dispositions fiscales régissant la TVA , la situation est plus complexe et dans beaucoup de cas, le résultat de cette opération donnera lieu à un crédit de TVA, d' où l' intérêt de rechercher son origine et ses implications fiscales au travers une lecture du code des impôts et la réalité pratique  lors du contrôle fiscal
