THE INTEREST AND POETRY WRITING SKILLS IMPROVEMENT BY DISCOVERY BASED LEARNING METHOD

This study aimed: 1) to increase the interest in writing poems; and 2) to improve the ability to write poetry in grade VIII. This research was a classroom action research. This research has done around August until November 2016 at class VIII SMP at Sukoharjo. The data sources of this research were documents and field notes of the observation. The techniques of data collection were observation, in-depth interview, tests, and documents analysis. Data validation in this research were triangulation of the resources and methods as well as review of the informants. The results can be concluded that: 1) there is improvement of the students’ interest in writing poetries. The interest improvement can be explained in 1 cycle, 24 students or 47% of the students who joined the teaching and learning process increased to 75% of the students in 2 nd cycle; 2) In 1 st cycle, writing skills increased 81% (26 students) became 96% (31 students) in 2 nd cycle. s

REPRESENTASI KEKUASAAN TOKOH INFORMAL DALAM NOVEL DASAMUKA KARYA JUNAEDI SETIYONO

Research on Representation of the Powers of Informal People in Novel Dasamuka Karya Junaedi Setiyono is trying to reveal the power of informalleaders. The selection of Dasamuka's novel by Junaedi Setiyono is based on theidea that the novel comprehensively describes the power of informal leaders in thereality of life recorded in the form of literary works.The problems studied in this research are the representation of dominance and the strength of informal leaders. This is based on the consideration that both represent the power of informal leaders used to explore the power of informalleaders in a literary work. The theory used in this research is literary hegemony byAntonio Gramsci.The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with approach ofsociology of literature. The source data is a novel titled Dasamuka Junaedi Setiyono work. The form of data in the form of sentences, excerpts and sequences of stories in novels relating to research problems. Data collection in this researchusing the technique of documentation and analyzing using qualitative descriptive technique.Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that there presentation of informal leaders in Dasamuka novel by Junaedi Setiyono is are presentation of domination and strength. Representation of the dominance of informal leaders is reflected in the dominance of actions, attitudes, speeches andthe role of informal leaders who describe the things that informal leaders do incontrolling social groups. The representation of the power of informal figures is illustrated in the power of ideas / powers of thinking, the power of managing tactics, the power of convincing others, and the risk-taking power that describes the power within the informal leaders in creating power. The value of education relevant to all of this research is as a means of analysis of the subject of sociology of literature

Penerapan Metode Pengujian White-box, Black-box dan User Acceptance Testing (UAT) pada website laser.umm.ac.id.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) developed an application providing efficient search tools and sorting options to help users find the books or information needed quickly, namely the laser.umm.ac.id application or OPAC | Online Public Access Catalog. In this study, software testing techniques were used to evaluate the entire system prototype consisting of white box testing, black box testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT). The purpose of the research is to find out bugs and errors that occur in internal and external systems or structural and functional testing. The testing stages begin with white-box basis path testing by testing the source code / program code of the Advance OPAC search feature on the website, then next with black-box decision table testing by testing the search form on the advance OPAC and the last stage is testing with user acceptance testing (UAT) by distributing questionnaires to students. In white box testing, it is obtained that the source code has a low degree of complexity, meaning that the system shows that this application can run well without any errors. In Black box testing from the sample obtained the test results show a pass where the expected result matches the actual result. In the UAT test which uses a questionnaire with a Likert scale of 5 scales, the respondents agree above 75,3% (116 respondents) that the OPAC | Online Public Access Catalog system is able to facilitate the use and usefulness of finding library materials / information

The Influence of Product Quality and Price toward Purchasing Decision of Lifebuoy Toilet Soap (Case Study on Kelurahan Tlogosari Kulon Semarang)

Toilet soap constitutes one of human principle commodity that is used everyday. This conditions brought consequence upon its demand, which is very high. In order to be able to win on market, and for gaining maximally profit, so then, Lifebuoy’s producer must previously known what factors that is influencing buying decision on consumer’s side, among other were product quality and price. Although Lifebuoy always became a winner on compact soap category championship (since 2005 to 2007, runner up in 2004), but its Total Satisfaction Score value experienced decrease by 0.41 on 2006, from 4.180 became 4.139. Notwithstanding its consumer satisfaction index on 2007 experienced increment compared 2006, but its consumer satisfaction index adequately fluctuate well since 2004 until 2007. Thus, purpose of this research could be stated for knowing how far product quality and price influenced toward buying decision of Lifebuoy toilet soap. Research type used here was explanatory research, or can be said as research that is explaining any relationship between research variables. Population in this research was all of consumers who used Lifebuoy toilet soap, that is resident in Pedurungan Sub-District, specifically who lived on Kelurahan Tlogosari Kulon. Sampling method in this research was area sampling. Data collection was done through questioner dissemination and literature study. Pengaruh Pendidikan Kesehatan Pada Remaja Tentang Upaya Pencegahan Terjadinya Gastritis Terhadap Tingkat Pengetahuan Dan Sikap Remaja Untuk Mencegah Terjadinya Gastritis di SMK Negeri 1 Semarang

Latar Belakang :Banyak perilaku remaja yang bisa menyebabkan terjadinya gastritis. Perilaku tersebut dikarenakan berbagai faktor diantaranya yaitu pengetahuan dan sikap remaja untuk mencegah gastritis. Pemberian penyuluhan dan bimbingan melalui pendidikan kesehatan diharapkan bisa merubah pengetahuan dan sikap remaja tersebut.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh pendidikan kesehatan pada remaja tentang upaya pencegahan terjadinya gastritis terhadap tingkat pengetahuan dan sikap remaja untuk mencegah terjadinya gastritis. Metodologi Penelitian : Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen kuasi dengan rancangan penelitiannya adalah Pre-test post-test design with control group. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitas sebagai instrumen penelitian. Sampel penelitian ini meliputi 60 siswa di SMK Negeri 1 Semarang dengan menggunakan purposive sampling sebagai teknik pengambilan sampel. Analisa data yang digunakan adalah analisa bivariate, Wilcoxon Match Pair Test. Hasil Penelitian : Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan jumlah responden yang memiliki pengetahuan tinggi antara sebelum dan sesudah pendidikan kesehatan yaitu dari 23,3% menjadi sebanyak 100%, dengan p value 0,000. Dan terdapat peningkatan jumlah responden yang memiliki sikap positif antara sebelum dan sesudah pendidikan kesehatan yaitu 40,0% menjadi 86,7% dengan p value 0,001. Kesimpulan : Ada pengaruh pendidikan kesehatan pada remaja tentang upaya pencegahan terjadinya gastritis terhadap tingkat pengetahuan dan sikap remaja untuk mencegah terjadinya gastriti

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS TOWARD “PAIRED AND PROBLEMS LEARNING METHOD” IN WRITING CLASS.

Language is a communicative system as a medium for expressing thoughts and emotions, without language humans cannot connect with each other. Student perceptions refer to the way students understand and interpret information, experiences or situations encountered in the educational environment. This research used qualitative descriptive method to observe English department students’ perceptions and problems that arise in implementing paired learning methods in writing class. The respondents of this research consist of 20 English department students who have taken a paragraph writing class in the 5th semester of 2022 with minimum grade of “B” at University Muhammadiyah of Malang. The researcher distributed 3 questions related to students’ perceptions of paired learning method and the problem that arise in process of implementing paired learning method as well as criticism of paired learning method. Data collection was carries out through questionnaires and interview. The aim of this research is to analyse students' perceptions of the learning that is broadcast and the problems that arise in implementing the paired learning method in writing classes. The result of this research highlights positive perceptions and problem that arise regarding the method of implementing paired learning

THE ENGLISH TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS TO THE FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SDN 03 GEMOLONG SRAGEN

Epik Tri Rahayu. 2008. The English Teaching and Learning Process to The Fourth Grade Students of SDN 03 Gemolong, Sragen. English Diploma Program, Faculty of Letters and Fine Arts, Sebelas Maret University. This report is written based on the job training done by the writer as an English teacher in SDN 03 Gemolong for a month. The purpose is to know and to understand the English Teaching and Learning process at SDN 03 Gemolong, including the difficulties faced by the students and the teacher and also to find the solutions for those difficulties. The data of this report is obtained from the writers’ observation and experience when she taught English lesson. During conducting the job training, the writer used some steps to make the English teaching and learning process run smoothly. The steps covered greeting, warming up, presentation strategies, skill practice, assessment and ending the lesson. The result shows that there are some difficulties faced by the writer. The difficulties are related to the problems of the students and the teacher. The problems of the students are the students’ condition and the students’ motivation. Meanwhile, the teachers’ problems are limited source books and in handling the students. The writer also presents the solutions to solve the difficulties from the discussion in this report. To solve the students’ problem about the students’ condition, the writer explained the material using loud voice and often reminded them to be silent and listened to the explanation. Besides, to motivate the passive students’ the writer gave extra explanation to them and gave reward. Furthermore, to solve the teachers’ problem in limited source books, the writer create another exercise to develop the students’ ability in facing the test that is not provided in the source books. To solve the problem about handling the students, the writer make the students busy by giving them tasks done in pairs

AN ANALYSIS ON CONFLICTS FACED BY LINDA JACKSON AS THE MAIN CHARACTER IN LAURIE BRIDGES AND PAUL ALEXANDER'S NOVEL “SWAMP WITCH”

Novel is a book that contains of long story in the form of prose which has some important points: (1) it may create a powerful emotional impact on the reader’s mind (2) it can make people hear, feel and see, (3) the language that is used is clear. By reading novel people can gain important knowledge in many kind of fields, such as: politic, social, religion, etc. For example, in Laurie Bridges and Paul Alexander’s novel “Swamp Witch”, while reading the story, the readers are able to know about love, friendship, togetherness, even about superstition and the possibilities of good and evil in the real life. This study focuses on the intrinsic element of literature and tries to analyze the kind of conflicts faced by Linda Jackson as the main character, the effect of those conflicts on her personality and how the conflicts can be solved. The main purpose of this study is to know the conflicts in this novel in order that the readers can learn their personality and behavior toward their environment. This study used descriptive qualitative research design because there was no treatment as it is in experimental research. Moreover, in doing this research, the writer used the objective approach; in this case, the writer did not need to study about the author’s life, background of the work and society but attempted to analyze the work itself, and considered “Swamp Witch” novel as the object of the study. From the result of the analysis, it is found that there were three kinds of conflicts faced by Linda Jackson, namely: social, psychological and physical conflicts. And those conflicts had made Linda as a pessimistic, sensitive, fainthearted and easily offended person. Finally, the social conflicts faced by Linda could be solved by Tubelle’s death, reminding that the conflict existed because of Tubelle’s presence and her magical power. Then, the psychological conflicts could be reduced by Linda’s effort by telling her guilt feeling, fear and confusion to Ron Haines because she considered him as the only one person who could be trusted. And the last, in facing her physical conflicts, besides Linda had to struggle by herself, she was also helped by Ron Haines and Ben Davis, Tubelle’s grandson. Then, these conflicts ended by Tubelle’s death
