Com este rico e abundante material, chegamos ao sétimo e-book publicado pela ABPEducom, em seus seis primeiros anos de existência. A especificidade desta obra é a de trazer as “Áreas de Intervenção” do campo da Educomunicação, colocando-as a serviço de uma meta essencial ao agir educomunicativo: o diálogo intercultural, trabalhado na linha do tema geral do evento internacional: Media and Information Literacy: New Paradigms for Intercultural Dialogue

Rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART): Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is associated with high in-hospital mortality. Alveolar recruitment followed by ventilation at optimal titrated PEEP may reduce ventilator-induced lung injury and improve oxygenation in patients with ARDS, but the effects on mortality and other clinical outcomes remain unknown. This article reports the rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART). Methods/Design: ART is a pragmatic, multicenter, randomized (concealed), controlled trial, which aims to determine if maximum stepwise alveolar recruitment associated with PEEP titration is able to increase 28-day survival in patients with ARDS compared to conventional treatment (ARDSNet strategy). We will enroll adult patients with ARDS of less than 72 h duration. The intervention group will receive an alveolar recruitment maneuver, with stepwise increases of PEEP achieving 45 cmH(2)O and peak pressure of 60 cmH2O, followed by ventilation with optimal PEEP titrated according to the static compliance of the respiratory system. In the control group, mechanical ventilation will follow a conventional protocol (ARDSNet). In both groups, we will use controlled volume mode with low tidal volumes (4 to 6 mL/kg of predicted body weight) and targeting plateau pressure <= 30 cmH2O. The primary outcome is 28-day survival, and the secondary outcomes are: length of ICU stay; length of hospital stay; pneumothorax requiring chest tube during first 7 days; barotrauma during first 7 days; mechanical ventilation-free days from days 1 to 28; ICU, in-hospital, and 6-month survival. ART is an event-guided trial planned to last until 520 events (deaths within 28 days) are observed. These events allow detection of a hazard ratio of 0.75, with 90% power and two-tailed type I error of 5%. All analysis will follow the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion: If the ART strategy with maximum recruitment and PEEP titration improves 28-day survival, this will represent a notable advance to the care of ARDS patients. Supplementation of threonine in diets for Nile tilapia challenged with Saprolegnia infestans

Objetivou-se avaliar a o efeito da adição de treonina na dieta sobre a recuperação de alevinos de tilápia do Nilo. Foram formuladas duas dietas com composição nutricional idêntica, sendo uma dieta isenta de inclusão de treonina industrial e a outra contendo 0,111 g/Kg de inclusão de treonina industrial. 378 peixes foram biometrizados fotografados e dispostos em 21 aquários aos quais foram distribuídos os tratamentos. Os peixes foram então alimentados durante 21 dias com as dietas experimentais em quatro arraçoamentos por dia. Ao final do periodo de alimentação foi feita a inoculação do fungo Saprolegnia infestans. Após a inoculação, diariamente, foi feita avaliação do comportamento dos peixes. Nos dias 1, 3, 5, 7 e 14 foram feitas coletas de um peixe por unidade experimental para quantificação do muco. Não foi observado diferença da inclusão de treonina industrial sobre os parâmetros, peso final, ganho de peso, área de superfície corporal. A produção de muco apresentou alterações a partir do dia 1 entre o controle e os outros tratamentos. O comportamento dos alevinos apresentou tendência a alterações após a inoculação. O tratamento com treonina industrial aparentemente apresentou comportamento menos anormal. Conclui- se que a suplementação de treonina na dieta melhora o desenvolvimento de alevinos de tilápia do nilo infectados pelo fungo do algodão (Saprolegnia infestans).The experiment was aimed to evaluate the effect of the addition of threonine in the diet to recover alevins of nile tilapia wounded by water mold fungus. Two diets were formulated with the same nutrient composition, being, a diet free from inclusion of industrial threonine and the other containing 0.111 g.kg -1 of industrial threonine. 378 fishes with an average weight ranging 0,31±0,01g were photographed and placed in 21 tanks which were distributed to the treatments and fed for four weeks with experimental diets. The fingerlings were challeged with Saprolegnia infestans after 4 weeks of feeding. . Analysis of behavior was performed daily. We did not observed positive effect of the inclusion of industrial threonine on performance parameters: final body weight, weight gain, body surface area and The production of mucus also showed changes from day 1 between other treatments and control. The behavior of the juveniles also tended to change after inoculation. The treatments with industrial threonine apparently had less abnormal behavior. It is concluded that the addition of threonine in the diet enhances the development of Nile tilapia stressed water mold fungus (Saprolegnia infestans).Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superio

Sedation of nile tilapia with essential oils: tea tree, clove, eucalyptus, and mint oils

Essential oils have been extensively used in many commercial applications, one of them being anesthetics. The effect of four essential oils (tea tree, clove, eucalyptus, and mint oils) on the sedation, recovery, and behavioral stress of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was evaluated. The sedative solutions, prepared with essential oils and anhydrous ethanol (1:4), were used for fish management procedures at a dose of 7.4 mL L -1 in a completely randomized block design with four treatments and seven replicates. The means were compared using Scott–Knott test (P < 0.05). Clove oil was found to be the most suitable oil for the immobilization of Nile tilapia; however, behavioral observations indicate that tea tree oil was the most efficient in reducing stress.Óleos essenciais vêm sendo intensamente utilizados em diversas aplicações comerciais, dentre elas como anestésicos. Avaliou-se o efeito de soluções com óleos extraídos de quatro tipos vegetais (melaleuca, cravo, eucalipto e menta) na sedação, na recuperação e no comportamento de estresse de tilápia-do-Nilo. Utilizaram-se soluções sedativas (óleo essencial:etanol, 1:4) na água de manejo dos peixes na dosagem de 7,4 mL/L sob delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos e sete repetições. Os resultados foram submetidos ao teste Scott-Knott (P < 0,05). De acordo com os resultados, o mais indicado para a imobilização de tilápia-do-Nilo é o óleo de cravo, no entanto as observações comportamentais indicam o óleo de melaleuca como o mais eficiente na redução do estresse

Efeito da etapa de centrifugação no tamanho de nanocristais de celulose

Investigou-se, utilizando a técnica de espalhamento dinâmico de luz depolarizado, a relação das propriedades dinâmicas de suspensões de nanocristais de celulose (NCC) com a força G de centrifugação aplicada no processo de purificação das mesmas. Amostras contendo NCC foram preparadas por meio de hidrólise com ácido sulfúrico e centrifugadas nas intensidades de 1840, 4140, 7370, 11510 e 16580 de força G. Determinou-se os coeficientes de difusão translacionais e rotacionais e, a partir destes, calculou-se as larguras (d) e os comprimentos (L) dos NCC. Os valores de L e de d encontraram-se nas faixas de 213 ± 10 a 294 ± 14nm e de 4,4 ± 1,2 a 9,5 ± 2,0nm, respectivamente. Os resultados concordaram com os disponíveis na literatura, confirmando a aplicabilidade da técnica no estudo da dinâmica dos NCC em suspensões aquosas. Não observou-se variação significativa de L com o aumento da força G na faixa estudada. Por outro lado, houve redução de d para valores de força G acima de 7370

THE EFFECT OF CENTRIFUGATION STAGE ON CELLULOSE NANOCRYSTALS’ SIZE

The relation between the cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) dynamic properties and the centrifugation G force applied on their purification process was investigated using the depolarized dynamic light scattering technic. Samples containing CNC were prepared using sulfuric acid hydrolysis and centrifugated on the following G forces: 1840, 4140, 7370, 11510 e 16580. The translational and rotational diffusion coefficients were determined for the different samples, from these values, the CNC widths (d) and lengths (L) were calculated. The values for the d and L lied from 213 ± 10 nm to 294 ± 14 nm and 4,4 ± 1,2 nm to 9,5 ± 2,0nm, respectively. The results agree with the the literature, confirming the applicability of the technic on the study of NCC dynamic properties in aqueous suspensions. There was no significant variation on the values of L by the increment on the G force within the studied interval. On the other hand, d reduced with the G force increase for values above 7370
