Objective: the purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence of sports injuries in a female rugby team belonging to the French national team, to determine the existence of imbalances between the muscular strength of the quadriceps and hamstrings, and whether these could be associated with postural changes, as well as the fact of having or not injury. Methodology: Mixed study, cross-sectional and retrospective study, with a sample of 20 female athletes, aged between 18 and 35 years. They perform the biological, training and injury characterization, followed by a postural evaluation through the Software for Postural Evaluation (SAPO) program, and an evaluation of the strength in the isokinetic dynamometer. Results: during two sports seasons were reported 45 injuries, of which 53.3% occurred in the lower limb, 33.3% in the upper limb and 13.3% in the head / trunk. The knee was the site with a higher prevalence of injury were ligament lesions were the most frequent and more severe. The concentric isokinetic force of both limbs is identical regardless of whether an injury has already occurred. Regarding the eccentric isokinetic force there are already significant differences between the limbs with knee flexion. The values of the postural alignment of the athletes without and with knee injury are similar. Conclusion: There is no relationship between the occurrence of knee injuries and the biological variables, training characteristics, isokinetic strength deficits, and postural patterns.N/
âJust gripping my heart and squeezingâ:Naming and explaining the emotional experience of receiving bad news in the paediatric oncology setting
Objective To explore recipientsâ perspectives on the range and origins of their emotional
experiences during their âbad newsâ consultations.
Methods Participants were four bereaved families of children who had changed from
active treatment to palliative care in paediatric oncology. Data was collected using
emotional touchpoint storytelling. The names (descriptors) given to the emotional
experiences were linguistically classified. Explanations of their perceived origins were
examined using applied thematic analysis.
Results 26 descriptors were given, relating to bodily sensations, affective states,
evaluations and cognitive conditions. Three themes were identified in the origins of these
experiences â âbecoming awareâ, âthe changesâ and âbeing in this situationâ. Parents
described strong emotional displays during the consultation including physical collapse.
These related to the internal process of âbecoming awareâ. Three descriptors were given
as originating from the clinicians and their delivery of the news â âsupportedâ, âincludedâ,
âtrustingâ.
Conclusions Recipients perceive their emotional experiences as mainly originating from
the news itself, and perceived consequences of it, rather than its delivery. Strong
emotional reactions during the interaction are not necessarily an indicator of ineffectual
delivery.
Practice Implications Findings offer a thematic framing that may support and deepen
practitionersâ understanding of recipientsâ emotional reactions during bad news
consultations

Aviation Risk Management
Risk management plans form a central part of all projects. However, projects in industries such as aviation and aerospace face serious risks due to the inherent hazards that may endanger the lives of those who utilize the products and services resulting from such projects. This study examined the practices of 56 project managers in the field of aviation to understand the unique approach to risk management undertaken by project managers. The results of the study offers approaches to managing risk in project characterized by extreme hazard
Occupational Therapy Studentsâ Perceived Preparedness to Work with Transgender Clients
In order to be a successful practitioner, an occupational therapist must have proper knowledge for treating diverse populations, including clients who are transgender. However, many occupational therapy (OT) programs do not teach content that is specific to the transgender population. This study utilized a complementary mixed-methods design to determine how prepared occupational therapy students perceived themselves to be for working with transgender clients. Entry-level masters and doctoral level occupational therapy students from accredited OT programs across the United States that had completed at least their first Level II fieldwork were recruited to participate. Eighty-five occupational therapy students completed the quantitative survey, and a subsequent six students participated in the phone interview for the qualitative portion of the study. Nearly all of the participants reported that their educators prepared them ânot at allâ or âsomeâ to work with clients who are transgender. The majority of the participants reported having had contact with members of the transgender community. However, only about a third of participants reported having any transgender content in their courses. The themes that emerged from the qualitative data were limited knowledge about the topic, patient as the educator, self-directed training, and awareness of barriers the transgender community faces. These findings suggest that academic accreditation standards need to be updated to include marginalized populations, including transgender content, to decrease barriers and improve overall care provided to clients

The use of mobile technology to facilitate self-management in adults with Type 1 Diabetes: A qualitative explorative approach
Aims: (a) To explore how mobile technology can support selfâmanagement in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1DM). (b) To inform a usability study in the design of a mobile application to facilitate selfâmanagement of T1DM. Design: Qualitative exploratory design. Methods: Semiâstructured interviews were undertaken with adults with T1DM (N = 8). The data collected were analysed using a thematic analysis approach. Results: Mobile technology has the potential to support adults in their selfâmanagement of T1DM through facilitating their decisionâmaking, saving time and enabling them to easily share their data with their healthcare professional. Participants identified four main visualization characteristics for technology to aid in decisionâmaking; relationships between inputs, trends, graphs and colours, and identified essential features such as ease of use, convenience and connectivity
Reducing Poverty in CaliforniaâŠPermanently
If California were to seriously commit to equalizing opportunity and reducing poverty, how might that commitment best be realized?
This is of course a hypothetical question, as there is no evidence that California is poised to make such a serious commitment, nor have many other states gone much beyond the usual lip-service proclamations. There are many reasons for Californiaâs complacency, but an important one is that most people think that poverty is intractable and that viable solutions to it simply donât exist.
When Californians know what needs to be done, they tend to go forward and get it done. When, for example, the stateâs roads are in disrepair, there are rarely paralyzing debates about exactly how to go about fixing them; instead we proceed with the needed repairs as soon as the funds to do so are appropriated. The same type of sure and certain prescription might appear to be unavailable when it comes to reducing poverty. It is hard not to be overwhelmed by the cacophony of voices yielding a thick stream of narrow-gauge interventions, new evaluations, and piecemeal proposals.1
Although the research literature on poverty is indeed large and may seem confusing, recent advances have in fact been so fundamental that it is now possible to develop a science-based response to poverty. In the past, the causes of poverty were not well understood, and major interventions, such as the War on Poverty, had to be built more on hunch than science. It is an altogether different matter now. The causes of poverty are well established, and the effects of many possible policy responses to poverty are likewise well established. The simple purpose of this essay is to assemble these advances into a coherent plan that would, if implemented, reduce poverty in California substantially
