In the rapidly evolving global business landscape, the demand for software has intensified competition among organizations, leading to challenges in retaining highly qualified IT members in software organizations. One of the problems faced by IT organizations is the retention of these strategic professionals, also known as talent. This work presents an actionable framework for Talent Retention (TR) used in IT organizations. It is based on our findings from interviews performed with 21 IT managers. The TR Framework is our main research outcome. Our framework encompasses a set of factors, contextual characteristics, barriers, strategies, and coping mechanisms. Our findings indicated that software engineers can be differentiated from other professional groups, and beyond competitive salaries, other elements for retaining talent in IT organizations should be considered, such as psychological safety, work-life balance, a positive work environment, innovative and challenging projects, and flexible work. A better understanding of factors could guide IT managers in improving talent management processes by addressing Software Engineering challenges, identifying important elements, and exploring strategies at the individual, team, and organizational levels.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2205.06352 by other author

Get PDF
The fierce competition has imposed increasingly on the organizations the development of products of greater quality, in short time and with low costs. By directly influencing the development time, the Process Planning phase represents an opportunity for improvement, by impacting on the productive efficiency of the organization. Process Planning describes and details the sequence of manufacturing operations of a part or product. Even knowing the importance of this subject, there is the disinterest of students in lectures. With this, the objective of this work is to propose a theoretical model of project-based learning (PBL) for teaching the Planning of Machining Process through the Toyota Kata approach. In which a theoretical model for teaching was elaborated with 4 Phases, each one contains the elements that configure its delivery. To achieve each delivery, the students use a systematized routine with small experiments and reflections of the actions taken. The work contributed by providing a model of how to implement a PBL for the learning of Process Planning through small experiments, aiming to promote the students' learning and seeking the engagement of the same to the class

Get PDF
One of the difficulties found in Chemistry teaching, mainly in High School, is to establish relations among society, environment, science and technology. It is notorious and has required Chemistry teachers to have certain skills, including some that refer to several situations in everyday life. Therefore, this study aimed at introducing three methodological proposals to teach the content “methods of mixture separation”. The first proposal aimed at addressing concepts and procedures based on different situations found in everyday life. The second offered students some strategies to encourage them to form different points of view and opinions. It favored both intellectual autonomy and access to production of chemical knowledge collectively and collaboratively (the jigsaw method). The third was related to the use of didactic games to make learning easier. The use of games in Chemistry teaching is a methodology that has been used because it enables students to have pleasure and fun while learning. Four classes of freshmen (first year in High School) that attend the Instituto Federal do Triângulo Mineiro - Campus Uberlândia Centro (IFTM-UDICENTRO), located in Uberlândia, MG, Brazil, took part in this study. Results suggest that all methodologies under investigation are also efficient in online lessons. Teachers can use them all together or individually. In addition, the didactic game under study was adapted so that it could be played in online Chemistry lessons, since the world has still been affected by the infectious disease caused by the coronavirus. The adaptation of the game called “SeparaMix” has not been published in the literature yet). DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17807/orbital.v13i5.165
