Clear detection of dusty torus signatures in a Weak-Line Radio Galaxy: the case of PKS 0043-42
We report the clearest detection to date of dusty torus signatures in a
Weak-Line Radio Galaxy (WLRG). The deep Spitzer InfraRed Spectrograph (IRS)
rest-frame mid-infrared (MIR) spectrum of the WLRG PKS 0043-42 (z=0.116) shows
a clear spectral turnover at wavelengths longer than ~20 micron suggestive of
warm dust, as well as a 9.7 micron silicate absorption feature. In addition,
the hard X-ray results, based on Chandra data, strongly support a picture in
which PKS 0043-42 has a torus and accretion disc more typical of Strong-Line
Radio Galaxies (SLRGs). The MIR and X-ray spectra are markedly different from
those of other WLRGs at similar redshifts, and here we show that the former can
be successfully fitted with clumpy torus models with parameters characteristic
of Type-2 AGN tori: close to edge-on (i=74 deg) and relatively broad (torus
angular width=60 deg), with an outer radius of 2 pc, hydrogen column density
~1.6x10^(23) cm^(-2), and AGN bolometric luminosity ~1.6x10^(44) erg s^(-1).
The presence of a compact torus in PKS 0043-42 provides evidence that this WLRG
is fuelled by cold, rather than hot, gas accretion. We suggest that WLRGs are a
diverse population, and PKS 0043-42 may represent a type of radio galaxy in
which the AGN activity has been recently re-triggered as a consequence of
intermittent gas supply, or in which the covering factor of the Narrow-Line

Final State Interactions in Hypernuclear Decay
We present an update of the One-Meson-Exchange (OME) results for the weak
decay of s- and p-shell hypernuclei (Ref. Phys. Rev. C {\bf 56}, 339 (1997)),
paying special attention to the role played by final state interactions between
the emitted nucleons. The present study also corrects for a mistake in the
inclusion of the and exchange mechanisms, which substantially
increases the ratio of neutron-induced to proton-induced transitions,
. With the most up-to-date model ingredients, we find that
the OME approach is able to describe very satisfactorily most of the measured

Comparison of coherence times in three dc SQUID phase qubits
We report measurements of spectroscopic linewidth and Rabi oscillations in
three thin-film dc SQUID phase qubits. One device had a single-turn Al loop,
the second had a 6-turn Nb loop, and the third was a first order gradiometer
formed from 6-turn wound and counter-wound Nb coils to provide isolation from
spatially uniform flux noise. In the 6 - 7.2 GHz range, the spectroscopic
coherence times for the gradiometer varied from 4 ns to 8 ns, about the same as
for the other devices (4 to 10 ns). The time constant for decay of Rabi
oscillations was significantly longer in the single-turn Al device (20 to 30
ns) than either of the Nb devices (10 to 15 ns). These results imply that
spatially uniform flux noise is not the main source of decoherence or

Weaning of immunosuppression in long - Term liver transplant recipients
Seventy-two long-surviving liver transplant recipients were evaluated prospectively, including a baseline allograft biopsy for weaning off of immunosuppression. Thirteen were removed from candidacy because of chronic rejection (n=4), hepatitis (n=2), patient anxiety (n=5), or lack of cooperation by the local physician (n=2). The other 59, aged 12-68 years, had stepwise drug weaning with weekly or biweekly monitoring of liver function tests. Their original diagnoses were PBC (n=9), HCC (n=l), Wilson’s disease (n=4), hepatitides (n=15), Laennec’s cirrhosis (n=l), biliary atresia (n=16), cystic fibrosis (n=l), hemochromatosis (n=l), hepatic trauma (n=l), alpha-l-antitrypsin deficiency (n=9), and secondary biliary cirrhosis (n=l). Most of the patients had complications of long-term immunosuppression, of which the most significant were renal dysfunction (n=8), squamous cell carcinoma (n=2) or verruca vulgaris of skin (n=9), osteoporosis and/or arthritis (n=12), obesity (n=3), hypertension (n=ll), and opportunistic infections (n=2). When azathioprine was a third drug, it was stopped first. Otherwise, weaning began with prednisone, using the results of corticotropin stimulation testing as a guide. If adrenal insufficiency was diagnosed, patients reduced to <5 mg/day prednisone were considered off of steroids. The baseline agents (azathioprine, cyclospo-rine, or FK506) were then gradually reduced in monthly decrements. Complete weaning was accomplished in 16 patients (27.1%) with 3-19 months drug-free follow-up, is progressing in 28 (47.4%), and failed in 15 (25.4%) without graft losses or demonstrable loss of graft function from the rejections. This and our previous experience with self-weaned and other patients off of immunosuppression indicate that a significant percentage of appropriately selected long-surviving liver recipients can unknowingly achieve drug-free graft acceptance. Such attempts should not be contemplated until 5-10 years posttransplantation and then only with careful case selection, close monitoring, and prompt reinstitution of immunosuppression when necessary. © 1995 by Williams & Wilkins
Testing M2T/T2M Transformations

Miami, EEUU.Testing model-to-model (M2M) transformations is becoming a prominent topic in the current Model-driven Engineering landscape. Current approaches for transformation testing, however, assume having explicit model representations for the input domain and for the output domain of the transformation. This excludes other important transformation kinds, such as model-to-text (M2T) and text-to-model (T2M) transformations, from being properly tested since adequate model representations are missing either for the input domain or for the output domain. The contribution of this paper to overcome this gap is extending Tracts, a M2M transformation testing approach, for M2T/T2M transformation testing. The main mechanism we employ for reusing Tracts is to represent text within a generic metamodel. By this, we transform the M2T/T2M transformation specification problems into equivalent M2M transformation specification problems. We demonstrate the applicability of the approach by two examples and present how the approach is implemented for the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF). Correlation length of the 1D Hubbard Model at half-filling : equal-time one-particle Green's function
The asymptotics of the equal-time one-particle Green's function for the
half-filled one-dimensional Hubbard model is studied at finite temperature. We
calculate its correlation length by evaluating the largest and the second
largest eigenvalues of the Quantum Transfer Matrix (QTM). In order to allow for
the genuinely fermionic nature of the one-particle Green's function, we employ
the fermionic formulation of the QTM based on the fermionic R-operator of the
Hubbard model. The purely imaginary value of the second largest eigenvalue
reflects the k_F (= pi/2) oscillations of the one-particle Green's function at
half-filling. By solving numerically the Bethe Ansatz equations with Trotter
numbers up to N=10240, we obtain accurate data for the correlation length at
finite temperatures down into the very low temperature region. The correlation
length remains finite even at T=0 due to the existence of the charge gap. Our
numerical data confirm Stafford and Millis' conjecture regarding an analytic
expression for the correlation length at T=0.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
The antikaon nuclear potential in hot and dense matter
The antikaon optical potential in hot and dense nuclear matter is studied
within the framework of a coupled-channel self-consistent calculation taking,
as bare meson-baryon interaction, the meson-exchange potential of the J\"ulich
group. Typical conditions found in heavy-ion collisions at GSI are explored. As
in the case of zero temperature, the angular momentum components larger than
L=0 contribute significantly to the finite temperature antikaon optical
potential at finite momentum. It is found that the particular treatment of the
medium effects has a strong influence on the behavior of the antikaon potential
with temperature. Our self-consistent model, in which antikaons and pions are
dressed in the medium, gives a moderately temperature dependent antikaon
potential which remains attractive at GSI temperatures, contrary to what one
finds if only nuclear Pauli blocking effects are included.Comment: 30 pages, 8 figures, references added. Accepted for publication in

O(12) limit and complete classification of symmetry schemes in proton-neutron interacting boson model
It is shown that the proton-neutron interacting boson model (pnIBM) admits
new symmetry limits with O(12) algebra which break F-spin but preserves the
quantum number M_F. The generators of O(12) are derived and the quantum number
`v' of O(12) for a given boson number N is determined by identifying the
corresponding quasi-spin algebra. The O(12) algebra generates two symmetry
schemes and for both of them, complete classification of the basis states and
typical spectra are given. With the O(12) algebra identified, complete
classification of pnIBM symmetry limits with good M_F is established.Comment: 22 pages, 1 figur
Características quimico-nutricionais da polpa de Caryocar coriaceum WITTM da região Meio-Norte do Brasil.
A espécie Caryocar coriaceum (pequi) é típica da região Meio-Norte do Brasil e de outras regiões do Nordeste, onde faz parte da sua culinária e do dia-a-dia nordestino. Objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar características químicas e nutricionais da polpa de pequi, de origem dos Estados do Piauí e Maranhão. As seguintes características foram avaliadas: acidez total titulável (ATT), pH, e percentagens de gordura (GORD), proteína bruta (PB), fibra bruta (FB) e carboidratos (CT). Os resultados indicam que a variabilidade é bem maior entre indivíduos nas diversas populações que entre populações. Em geral, maiores teores de GORD e FB foram obtidos em indivíduos de populações do Maranhão, ao passo que em PB os maiores foram observados em indivíduos provenientes de populações do Piauí
