Telephone multiline signaling using common signal pair
An operator can rapidly and automatically produce coded electrical signals by manipulating mechanical thumb wheel switches so as to instruct a service center to connect any number of telephone lines to the console thus enabling the operator to listen and/or talk over several lines simultaneously. The system includes an on-site console having several mechanically operated thumb wheel switches to which the desired lines to be connected can be dialed in. Electrical coded signals are fed to a number of banks of line AND gates representing units, tens and hundreds, a group of channel gates, and a command gate. These signals are gated out in a controlled manner to an encoder which generates tones that are transmitted over a single line to a communication service center
Maternal substance use disorder predicting children's emotion regulation in middle childhood : the role of early mother-infant interaction
Background: Maternal prenatal substance use disorder (SUD) represents a dual risk for child wellbeing due to teratogenic impacts and parenting problems often inherent in SUD. One potential mechanism transferring this risk is altered development of children's emotion regulation (ER). The present study examines how mother's prenatal SUD and early mother-infant interaction quality predict children's ER in middle childhood. Method: The participants were 52 polysubstance using mothers and 50 non-users and their children. First-year mother-infant interaction quality was assessed with the Emotional Availability (EA) Scales and children's ER with the Children's Emotion Management Scales (CEMS), and its parent version (P-CEMS) at 8-12 years. Results: Mother's prenatal SUD predicted a low level of children's adaptive ER strategies, whereas early mother-infant interaction problems predicted a high level of emotion dysregulation. The dyadic interaction also mediated the effect of SUD on emotion dysregulation. In the SUD group, more severe substance use predicted high emotion inhibition. Conclusion: Early mother-infant interaction quality is critical in shaping children's ER, also in middle-childhood. Interventions aimed for mothers with prenatal SUD should integrate parenting components to support the optimal development of multiply vulnerable children.Peer reviewe

Validation of HPPCALC
HPPCALC 2.1 was developed to analyze the raw data from a PNGV Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC) test and produce seven standard plots that consist of resistance, power and available energy relationships. The purpose of the HPPC test is to extrapolate the total power capability within predetermined voltage limits of a prototype or full production cell regardless of chemistry with respect to the PNGV goals as outlined in the PNGV Testing Manual, Revision 3. The power capability gives the Electrochemical Energy Storage team the tools to compare different battery sizes and chemistries for possible use in a hybrid electric vehicle. The visual basic program HPPCALC 2.1 opens the comma separated value file that is produced from a Maccor, Bitrode or Energy Systems tester. It extracts the necessary information and performs the appropriate calculations. This information is arranged into seven graphs: Resistance versus Depth of Discharge, Power versus Depth of Discharge, Power versus Energy, Power versus Energy, Energy versus Power, Available Energy versus Power, Available Energy versus Power, and Power versus Depth of Discharge. These are the standard plots that are produced for each HPPC test. The primary metric for the HPPC test is the PNGV power, which is the power at which the available energy is equal to 300 Wh. The PNGV power is used to monitor the power degradation of the battery over the course of cycle or calendar life testing

There must he decided improvement in this direction before competition can be placed upon a sound basis and before we can expect a decrease in the heavy business death rate among retail merchants. With the object of aiding retail merchants to improve their accounting methods we have outlined a simple system of accounts which provides for supplying the information necessary to properly direct a retail business. The JCMT Gould Belt Survey: the effect of molecular contamination in SCUBA-2 observations of Orion A
Thermal emission from cold dust grains in giant molecular clouds can be used
to probe the physical properties, such as density, temperature and emissivity
in star-forming regions. We present the SCUBA-2 shared-risk observations at 450
m and 850 m of the Orion A molecular cloud complex taken at the James
Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT). Previous studies showed that molecular emission
lines can contribute significantly to the measured fluxes in those continuum
bands. We use the HARP CO J=3-2 integrated intensity map for Orion A in
order to evaluate the molecular line contamination and its effects on the
SCUBA-2 maps. With the corrected fluxes, we have obtained a new spectral index
map for the thermal emission of dust in the well-known integral-shaped
filament. Furthermore, we compare a sample of 33 sources, selected over the
Orion A molecular cloud complex for their high CO J=3-2 line
contamination, to 27 previously identified clumps in OMC-4. This allows us to
quantify the effect of line contamination on the ratio of 850 m to 450
m flux densities and how it modifies the deduced spectral index of
emissivity for the dust grains. We also show that at least one
Spitzer-identified protostellar core in OMC-5 has a CO J=3-2
contamination level of 16 %. Furthermore, we find the strongest contamination
level (44 %) towards a young star with disk near OMC-2. This work is part of

Seasonal sea ice variability in eastern Fram Strait over the last 2000Â years
We present a high-resolution (ca. 50 years) biomarker-based reconstruction of seasonal sea ice conditions for the West Svalbard continental margin covering the last ca. 2k years. Our reconstruction is based on the distributions of sea ice algal (IP25) and phytoplankton (brassicasterol and HBI III) lipids in marine sediment core MSM5/5-712-1 retrieved in 2007. The individual and combined (PIP25) temporal profiles, together with estimates of spring sea ice concentration [SpSIC (%)] based on a recent calibration, suggest that sea ice conditions during the interval ca. 50–1700 AD may not have been as variable as described in previous reconstructions, with SpSIC generally in the range ca. 35–45 %. A slight enhancement in SpSIC (ca. 50 %) was identified at ca. 1600 AD, contemporaneous with the Little Ice Age, before declining steadily over the subsequent ca. 400 years to near-modern values (ca. 25 %). In contrast to these spring conditions, our data suggest that surface waters during summer months were ice free for the entire record. The decline in SpSIC in recent centuries is consistent with the known retreat of the winter ice margin from documentary sea ice records. This decrease in sea ice is possibly attributed to enhanced inflow of warm water delivered by the North Atlantic Current and/or increasing air temperatures, as shown in previous marine and terrestrial records. Comparison of our biomarker-based sea ice reconstruction with one obtained previously based on dinocyst distributions in a core from a similar location reveals partial agreement in the early–mid part of the records (ca. 50–1700 AD), but a notable divergence in the most recent ca. 300 years. We hypothesise that this divergence likely reflects the individual signatures of each proxy method, especially as the biomarker-based SpSIC estimates during this interval (\u3c25 %) are much lower than the threshold level (\u3e50 % sea ice cover) used for the dinocyst approach. Alternatively, divergence between outcomes may indicate seasonality shifts in sea ice conditions, such that a combined biomarker-dinocyst approach in future studies might provide further insights into this important parameter
