A wife of noble character is a wife who has all the parts of a respectable character, and an extraordinary power to carry out all her duties and obligations, especially in her household, she is able to make a decision that can be useful for herself and her entire family

    IgA-deficient in individuals have developed mucosal infections, atopy, autoimmune diseasesand rheumatic. Under the circumstance, the development of an immunomodulator that stimulatesimmune system, especially IgA, is truly desired. The research is objected on finding out the effect offermented horse milk treatment on IgA antibody in Hepatitis A immunized mice. IgA concentrationin serum and lymphocytes was evaluated using indirect ELISA method. Fermented horse milkgroup was compared with water group to calculate the percentage of IgA concentration increase.Univariate analysis was used to analyze Optical Density (OD) product from ELISA. The resultshowed that fermented horse milk increased 46.20 % IgA concentration in serum and 95.47 % inspleen lymphocytes. Univariate analysis showed that fermented horse milk increased significantlyIgA spleen lymphocytes but not IgA serum

    Senyawa aktif Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) merupakan asam amino yang terdapat di otak mammalia dan berperan sebagai neurotransmiter. Selain pada sistem saraf pusat, GABA juga terdapat dalam konsentrasi tinggi di sel β pankreas serta memiliki potensi sebagai antidiabetes. GABA dapat disintesis oleh hewan, bakteri asam laktat dan tumbuhan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan tujuan mendeteksi keberadaan GABA dalam bagian tumbuhan yaitu daun Artocarpus altilis. Deteksi dilakukan dengan Kromatografi Lapis Tipis (KLT) menggunakan fase diam plat silika, fase gerak BAW(3:1:1), dan GABA murni sebagai pembanding. Larutan GABA dibuat dengan pelarut etanol:air (7:3). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan GABA terdeteksi pada ekstrak daun Artocarpus altilis

    Antihypertensive Testing of Combination of Apium Graveolans L., Orthosiphon Stamineus Benth., and Morinda Citrifolial Extract. on Normotensive and Hypertensive Sprague Dawley Rats

    Seledri (Apium graviolens L.), kumis kucing (Orthosiphon stamineus Benth.), and mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L.) have been used to treat hypertension diseases in Indonesia. Previous researches have been done to determine antihypertensive activity of extracts of the sample in single extract. However, there are limited studies on effect of the extracts on a combination of three samples. This research was therefore aimed to study the effect of the combination on lowering blood tension on normotensive and spontaneously hypertensive rats. Non Invasive Blood Pressure technique equipped with Non Invasive Blood Pressure System (CODA®) was used to measure effect of extracts on antihypertensive activity. Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 2 groups (normotensive and spontaneously hypertensive rats using fenilefrin) and treated with combination extracts in doses of 20.25 and 40.5 mg/kg BW of rats. The result showed that the combined extracts can decrease in blood pressure of both two of the groups. Normotensive group of the rats treated at doses of 20,25 and 40,5 mg/kg BW of rats had lower persentase of systolic blood pressure as much as 7,1 ± 1,8 % and 10,2 ± 2,6 %, whilst percentage of diastolic blood pressure had lower percentage as much as 13,8 ± 3,2 % and 12,3 ± 3,1 %, respectively. Furthermore, spontaneously hypertensive rats treated at doses of 20,25 and 40,5 mg/kg BW of rats also showed lower systolic blood pressure as much as 16,10 ± 0,90 % and 15,84 ± 1,55 % and diastolic blood pressure as much as 19,48 ± 1,03 % and 17,77 ± 1,34 %. These results suggest that administration of combination of three extracts exhibited antihypertensive in both of the rat groups

    The aim of the study was the determination of glycaemic index (GI) of local tubers such as Uwi (Dioscorea alata), Gadung (Dioscorea hispida), dan Talas (Colocasia esculenta). Tubers were prepared as raw flour which were administered orally to the rats. Blood were taken at 0; 0,5; 1 and 2 hour after tubers administration. The dose was 2,5 kg/kg body weight (BW) whereas glucose was administered as a standart treatment. Area Under Curve (AUC) was calculated after plotting the graph of time versus glucose levels. Glucose levels were determined using GOD-PAP kit. GI values were calculated as a ratio of AUC (0-2hr) of tubers to glucose. Porang was moderate while the other tubers were low GI

    Black Rice Bran Extracts and Fractions Containing Cyanidin 3-glucoside and Peonidin 3-glucoside Induce Apoptosis in Human Cervical Cancer Cells

    Anthocyanin of pigmented rice inhibits the growth of cancer cells. The cytotoxicity and apoptosisinducing properties of local black rice (cv Cempo Ireng) extracts and fractions, which contain anthocyaninincluding cyanidin 3-glucoside and peonidin 3-glucoside, on human cervical cancer cell line (HeLa cells) hasbeen evaluated. The pigmented rice bran was extracted and fractionated using methanol-HCl. The MTT testwas performed on HeLa cell cultures to observe the IC50 value. Preparative TLC was performed to obtain thefractions of black rice bran. Cyanidin 3-glucoside and peonidin 3-glucoside were identified in the pigmentedrice bran extract and fractions using UHPLC. Flowcytometry analysis was performed to measure the percentageof apoptotic cells. Our results suggest that the fractions are more toxic than the methanolic crude extract withIC50 values of 85.95 ± 5.56 μg/mL (the lowest one) and 408.13 ± 51.9 μg/mL, respectively. The concentration ofcyanidin 3-glucoside and peonidin 3-glucoside in the methanolic extract were 1.89 and 0.84 μg/mg, respectively.The apoptosis induction by fractions F2 and F4 (52 and 55%) were significantly higher compared to fractionF3 and F5 (30 and 33%) and doxorubicin (21%). Cyanidin 3-glucoside was detected in F4 (0.14 μg/ml) whilepeonidin 3-glucoside in F2 (0.012 μg/ml), however both were not detected in F3 and F5

    Neuroblastic tumors, which are uncommon tumors of nerve cell origin, are classified into neuroblastoma, ganglioneuroblastoma, and ganglioneuroma depend-ing on the degree of maturation of neoplastic neuroblasts and development of schwannian stroma [2,4,7].  Ganglioneuroma is a rare neuroectodermal tumor of the peripheral nervous system. Ganglio-neuromas generally are considered to be benign neoplasms composed of both mature ganglion cells and nerve fascicles with axons, Schwann cells, fibroblasts, and other connective tissue elements [1].  The aim of this study is to clarify the pathomor-phological feature of a subcutaneous ganglio-neuroma which occurred in a Sumatran tiger.

    FORMULATION AND IMMUNOSTIMULANT STABILITY POLYSACCHARIDE SYRUP OF FRACTION NONI (MORINDA CITRIFOLIA L.) FRUITS

    Objective: The study aimed to formulate standardized polysaccharide fraction of Noni (SPFN) fruit into syrup preparations to fulfill the acceptability requirement of National Agency of Drugs and Food Control [Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan Republik of Indonesia (BPOM RI)] so that it can be used in the community as an immunostimulant. Methods: The optimization of the formula A and B were done using Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method and its stability tested under extreme temperature change effect using thaw cycling method by evaluating the physical properties, microbial contamination and immunostimulant activity. MTT method was used to determine the immunostimulant activity of syrup against lymphocyte proliferation in vitro. Results: Based on the results of stability tests of formula A using pH (4.45), viscosity (81.03 mPas), taste (good taste), pouring power (2.31 s), amount of bacteria (68 colonies/ml), total yeast and mold (269 colonies/ml) parameters and fulfilled the acceptability requirement of BPOM RI. Formula A could maintain better stability than formula B. Formula A syrup used for immunostimulant activity testing that could increase lymphocyte proliferation at a concentration of 13.33 to 106.64 μg/μl and it’s stable under the influence of extreme temperature changes. Conclusion: Formula A could be used to produce SPFN syrup, which has stable physical properties and immunostimulant activity beside no microbial contamination that fulfill requirements of BPOM RI
