Device for aligning paper in typewriter to correct one letter or line of type is discussed. Two types of correcting devices are described and illustrations of the devices are provided
Guide for a typewriter
The invention relates to accessories for typewriters, and more particularly to an improved guide for use in aligning a sheet of paper preparatory to an application of typed indicia to selected spaces. The device includes an aligning plate pivotally mounted on a line guide having formed therein a plurality of aligned apertures. The plate is so positioned that an aperture is positioned immediately above a target area for a type slug so that a slug will imprint a character in selected spaces
Some space shuttle tile/strain-isolator-pad sinusoidal vibration tests
Vibration tests were performed on the tile/strain-isolator-pad system used as thermal protection for the space shuttle orbiter. Experimental data on normal and in-plane vibration response and damping properties are presented. Three test specimens exhibited shear type motion during failures that occurred in the tile near the tile/strain-isolator-pad bond-line. A dynamic instability is described which has large in-plane motion at a frequency one-half that of the nominal driving frequency. Analysis shows that this phenomenon is a parametric response
Efficient Monte Carlo algorithm and high-precision results for percolation
We present a new Monte Carlo algorithm for studying site or bond percolation
on any lattice. The algorithm allows us to calculate quantities such as the
cluster size distribution or spanning probability over the entire range of site
or bond occupation probabilities from zero to one in a single run which takes
an amount of time scaling linearly with the number of sites on the lattice. We
use our algorithm to determine that the percolation transition occurs at
occupation probability 0.59274621(13) for site percolation on the square
lattice and to provide clear numerical confirmation of the conjectured

Are the Tails of Percolation Thresholds Gaussians ?
The probability distribution of percolation thresholds in finite lattices
were first believed to follow a normal Gaussian behaviour. With increasing
computer power and more efficient simulational techniques, this belief turned
to a stretched exponential behaviour, instead. Here, based on a further
improvement of Monte Carlo data, we show evidences that this question is not

Non-Destructive Testing Robots (NDTBOTS) for In-service Storage Tank Inspection
Petrochemical storage tanks are generally inspected when the tank is offline mostly to assess the extent of underside corrosion on the tank floor. Emptying, cleaning and opening a tank for inspection takes many months and is very expensive. Inspection costs can be reduced significantly by inserting robots through manholes on the tank roof to perform non-destructive testing. The challenge is to develop robots that can operate safely in explosive and hazardous environments and measure the thickness of floor plates using ultrasound sensors. This paper reports on the development of a small and inexpensive prototype robot (NDTBOT) which is designed to be intrinsically safe for zone zero operation. The robot “hops” across the floor to make measurements, without any external moving parts. Universality of finite-size corrections to the number of critical percolation clusters
Monte-Carlo simulations on a variety of 2d percolating systems at criticality
suggest that the excess number of clusters in finite systems over the bulk
value of nc is a universal quantity, dependent upon the system shape but
independent of the lattice and percolation type. Values of nc are found to high
accuracy, and for bond percolation confirm the theoretical predictions of
Temperley and Lieb, and Baxter, Temperley, and Ashley, which we have evaluated
explicitly in terms of simple algebraic numbers. Predictions for the
