Osteochondrosis of the spine is one of the most common chronic diseases of the human musculoskeletal system, in which there is a degenerative-dystrophic lesion of the vertebrae, intervertebral discs and ligaments. The aim of the study was to analyze the problems of pain and instability of the spine that occur in osteochondrosis, kinesiological methods of their diagnosis and treatment, and the criteria for selecting patients for the treatment of spinal instability.Material and methods of investigation. Literature sources were analyzed to substantiate the feasibility of selecting patients with disorders of functional stability of the spine and the use of computer stabiloplatform for diagnosis and treatment.Results. 4 groups of people were selected for examination and treatment. All individuals were selected from patients who applied to the Milon Center, which specializes in helping patients with kinesiodiagnostics and kinesiotherapy, therapeutic massage. All patients gave informed consent to use their examination and treatment data, if necessary, using a stabiloplatform. The first group included people who did not have osteochondrosis, but led a sedentary lifestyle, mostly traveling by car, ie were at risk of developing osteochondrosis. Their age was 22–28 years; the distribution by sex was - 12 men and 16 women. The second included patients who had hypermobility of the spine. Their age was 25-35 years; the distribution by sex was - 18 men and 23 women. The third group included patients with hypomobility of the spine. Their age was 28-45 years; the distribution by sex was - 15 men and 20 women. The fourth group included patients with spinal instability. Their age was 30-50 years; the distribution by sex was - 22 men and 32 women.Expected results. In each of the groups of subjects is expected to improve the functional stability of the spine, reduce disorders of the autonomic nervous system, reduce psychological disorders, improve sleep quality. The selection of the number of procedures is set individually, depending on the quality of the detected changes. Long-term results of stabilometry application are expected to be investigated.Conclusion. Osteochondrosis is a modern disease that leads to a deterioration in the quality of people of working age. The use of computer stabilometry can improve the functional stability of the spine

An improved direct colorimetric method for the quantitative analysis of urinary hippuric acid as an index of toluene exposure

An improved direct colorimetric method for determining the concentration of urinary hippuric acid as an index of toluene exposure was described. One tenth ml of urine was diluted with 0.4 ml 0.01 M phosphate buffer H 6.9 and mixed with 0.5 ml pyridine. The mixture was layered on 0.2 ml benzenesulfonyl chloride. The reaction was started by mixing for one min with a mechanical shaker. The colored solution was allowed to stand for 30 min, diluted with 5 ml ethanol, and absorbance measured at 410 nm within 30 min after the dilution. The coefficient of variation of this method was 6% and the recovery 103% when urine contains about 0.2-0.5 mg hippuric acid per ml of urine. The concentration was linear up to 2.0 mg per ml hippuric acid in a specimen.</p

Pimonidazole binding in C6 rat brain glioma: relation with lipid droplet detection

Item does not contain fulltextIn C6 rat brain glioma, we have investigated the relation between hypoxia and the presence of lipid droplets in the cytoplasm of viable cells adjacent to necrosis. For this purpose, rats were stereotaxically implanted with C6 cells. Experiments were carried out by the end of the tumour development. A multifluorescence staining protocol combined with digital image analysis was used to quantitatively study the spatial distribution of hypoxic cells (pimonidazole), blood perfusion (Hoechst 33342), total vascular bed (collagen type IV) and lipid droplets (Red Oil) in single frozen sections. All tumours (n=6) showed necrosis, pimonidazole binding and lipid droplets. Pimonidazole binding occurred at a mean distance of 114 microm from perfused vessels mainly around necrosis. Lipid droplets were principally located in the necrotic tissue. Some smaller droplets were also observed in part of the pimonidazole-binding cells surrounding necrosis. Hence, lipid droplets appeared only in hypoxic cells adjacent to necrosis, at an approximate distance of 181 microm from perfused vessels. In conclusion, our results show that severe hypoxic cells accumulated small lipid droplets. However, a 100% colocalisation of hypoxia and lipid droplets does not exist. Thus, lipid droplets cannot be considered as a surrogate marker of hypoxia, but rather of severe, prenecrotic hypoxia

Background Gastroenteritis accounts for approximately 1.7 million visits to the emergency department (ED) by children in the United States every year. Data to determine whether the use of probiotics improves outcomes in these children are lacking. Methods We conducted a randomized, double-blind trial involving 886 children 3 to 48 months of age with gastroenteritis who presented to six pediatric EDs in Canada. Participants received a 5-day course of a combination probiotic product containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus R0011 and L. helveticus R0052, at a dose of 4.0×10 Results Moderate-to-severe gastroenteritis within 14 days after enrollment occurred in 108 of 414 participants (26.1%) who were assigned to probiotics and 102 of 413 participants (24.7%) who were assigned to placebo (odds ratio, 1.06; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.77 to 1.46; P=0.72). After adjustment for trial site, age, detection of rotavirus in stool, and frequency of diarrhea and vomiting before enrollment, trial-group assignment did not predict moderate-to-severe gastroenteritis (odds ratio, 1.06; 95% CI, 0.76 to 1.49; P=0.74). There were no significant differences between the probiotic group and the placebo group in the median duration of diarrhea (52.5 hours [interquartile range, 18.3 to 95.8] and 55.5 hours [interquartile range, 20.2 to 102.3], respectively; P=0.31) or vomiting (17.7 hours [interquartile range, 0 to 58.6] and 18.7 hours [interquartile range, 0 to 51.6], P=0.18), the percentages of participants with unscheduled visits to a health care provider (30.2% and 26.6%; odds ratio, 1.19; 95% CI, 0.87 to 1.62; P=0.27), and the percentage of participants who reported an adverse event (34.8% and 38.7%; odds ratio, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.62 to 1.11; P=0.21). Conclusions In children who presented to the emergency department with gastroenteritis, twice-daily administration of a combined L. rhamnosus-L. helveticus probiotic did not prevent the development of moderate-to-severe gastroenteritis within 14 days after enrollment.
