W klasztorze Sióstr Klarysek w Krakowie przechowywana jest wysokiej klasy artystycznej bizantyńska ikona Matki Boskiej Eleusy z początku XIV w. Ikona została odkryta w 1999 roku podczas konserwacji gotyckiego, jak wówczas sądzono, znacznie przemalowanego obrazu. Prezentuje rzadko w sztuce bizantyńskiej wariant ikonograficzny, w którym dłoń Dzieciątka spoczywa w dłoni Matki Boskiej. Rys ten zbliża krakowską ikonę do ikony w templonie w Deczanach z ok. 1350. A Byzantine Icon with the Virgin Eleousa in the Poor Clares Convent in Cracow was rediscovered during the conservation treatment of a Virgin and Child panel, which until then was believed to be a Gothic picture repainted in the seventeenth century. This icon presents a variant of Eleusia type, in which the left hand of the Child is nestled in Mary’s right. Earlier, this iconographic type had been known in the milieu of medieval art of Serbia, as testified by a poorly researched icon with the Virgin Eleousa in the iconostasis in the Church of the Pantocrator in Dečani dated to around 1350. Then, this type was very popular in Italo-Greek icon painting in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, appearing in a few iconographic and compositional variants. At the present, preliminary, stage of research it would be difficult to indicate works of art comparable to the Cracow icon, but many of its characteristics suggest the work’s stylistic affinities with the painting of the Palaiologan era from the last quarter of the thirteenth and the beginning of the fourteenth century

The neutral stimuli detection deficits in delusion-prone individuals

Aim. The aim of the study was to investigate whether the delusion-prone individuals tend to select relevant information among distractors in order to examine whether the occurrence of overt delusions could be preceded by specific features of attention functioning. Methods. Individuals with high and low susceptibility to delusions completed the experimental task relying on the search for the specified signal hidden among distractors. Results. The delusion-prone individuals did not select emotionally neutral signal more effectively than the non delusion-prone ones. What is more, they made more ‘false-alarm’ mistakes than the control group, especially at the later stage of the task related to the increased fatigue level. Conclusion. The delusion-proneness is not related to the excessive information selection ability

Feeding strategies and competition between terrestrial Haemadipsa leeches (Euhirudinea : Arhynchobdellida) in Danum Valley rainforest (Borneo, Sabah)

Haemadipsid leeches are among the most successful terrestrial invertebrates in Bornean rainforests. They are very common ectoparasites of vertebrates, and their abundance has facilitated the conduction of numerous projects in the fields of ecology, zoogeography and taxonomy. We undertook research on two species inhabiting lowland dipterocarp forest, Haemadipsa picta Moore, 1929 and Haemadipsa subagilis (Moore, 1929), in order to address the following questions: (a) is there a difference in leech abundance between trails and off-trails?; (b) is ambush location dependent on specimen size or is species-specific?; (c) is intra- and interspecific competition limited by differences in foraging behaviours or vertical niche partitioning? Our results clearly show that H. picta is more abundant on trails than on off-trails and is vertically dispersed within the understory; the size of a specimen is strongly correlated with plant height. Haemadipsa subagilis was found not to exhibit such patterns. We suggest a possible lowering of interspecific competition between these species as a result of: (i) size-dependent dispersion of H. picta (together with reduction of intraspecific competition); and (ii) habitat specialisation of H. subagilis. Moreover, we provide new observations on their foraging behaviour

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the propagation of transverse and longitudinal acoustic wave in a composite made of hyperelastic Blatz-Ko material. Composite consists of a homogeneous layer of predetermined thickness d separating two infinite homogeneous material areas. In the paper it is assumed that the middle layer is filled with a homogeneous rubber (ƒ=1), whereas the external areas with foam rubber (ƒ=0). The final effect of paper are graphs of coefficients reflection of transverse and longitudinal acoustic wave, propagating in this composit

The digitization of regional centers of Polish Television The digitization of television signals in Poland is presented as one of the most important achievements of the media in recent years. The purpose of this publication is to present the opportunities and risks of digital technology at the regional level. The process of digitization has not resulted in a wider range of regional public television programming. After launching of Regional Television Centers, their dedicated band time lengthened by one hour. Money from the subscription only secure the production of about 40% of programs of the channel and are mostly news programs and current affairs. Other are provided with money from sponsors. In fact, digitization creates only a potential, does not give the guarantee that it will be used as financing is crucial for stable funding system. An example of the foregoing is Regional Television Katowice

Nowadays, the needs of the consumer force the media to behave in a way that will enable them to survive on the competitive market. Publishers functioning on the daily press market take actions aimed at the diversification of their medium, investing in the Internet. Such actions include creating not only an online edition of the newspaper, but also multimedia portals, new services and the use of the network dialogism considering its current and future potential. It is impossible not to notice the increasingly powerful connection between the printed press and Internet projects. It is caused by economic aspects, as publishers rarely count on revenues solely from the sale of information and advertising. Intense competition forces them to change the characteristics of their products and expand ways to reach both readers and advertisers. One example of the above phenomenon is Dziennik Zachodni - the winner of the Grand Press Digital award granted by Press editors for its innovative approach to the use of modern technologies in journalistic work
