In March 2008 the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO) through its Oceanographic Centre in Vigo (IEO-COV) initiated a historical series of research cruises aiming the assessment of the main commercial stocks on the High Seas (HS) of the SW Atlantic, including the study of two cephalopod species of important commercial interest, Argentine short-fin squid (Illex argentinus) and Patagonian squid (Loligo gahi). This working document presents a brief description of the methodology used in the cruises and preliminary results concerning CPUE by depth strata and geographical distribution of both mentioned species

    Harmonically Trapped Quantum Gases

We solve the problem of a Bose or Fermi gas in dd-dimensions trapped by δd% \delta \leq d mutually perpendicular harmonic oscillator potentials. From the grand potential we derive their thermodynamic functions (internal energy, specific heat, etc.) as well as a generalized density of states. The Bose gas exhibits Bose-Einstein condensation at a nonzero critical temperature TcT_{c} if and only if d+δ>2d+\delta >2, and a jump in the specific heat at TcT_{c} if and only if d+δ>4d+\delta >4. Specific heats for both gas types precisely coincide as functions of temperature when d+δ=2d+\delta =2. The trapped system behaves like an ideal free quantum gas in d+δd+\delta dimensions. For δ=0\delta =0 we recover all known thermodynamic properties of ideal quantum gases in dd dimensions, while in 3D for δ=\delta = 1, 2 and 3 one simulates behavior reminiscent of quantum {\it wells, wires}and{\it dots}, respectively.Comment: 14 pages including 3 figures and 3 table

The clinical, radiologycal and analytic discovery, are described in two cases of cats under two years of age which were presented with dyspnea, vomiting and caquexia. In both cases the radiographs showed the presence of intrathoracic masses; ELISA test for FeLV and FIV and the necropsy demostrated the relation of young cat and FeLV with the development of mediastinic tumoral masses

Many-body approach to the nonlinear interaction of charged particles with an interacting free electron gas

We report various many-body theoretical approaches to the nonlinear decay rate and energy loss of charged particles moving in an interacting free electron gas. These include perturbative formulations of the scattering matrix, the self-energy, and the induced electron density. Explicit expressions for these quantities are obtained, with inclusion of exchange and correlation effects.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures. To appear in Journal of Physics

Results of the Spanish Experimental Fishing in NAFO Subarea 1

An experimental fishing was carried out with a commercial Spanish vessel from October to December of the year 2003 in the Subarea 1. The main objective of the experimental fishing was to search for cephalopods species concentrations inside the territorial waters of Greenland. During the experimental fishing a scientific observer stayed on board to collect effort data, catches and yields by haul and Division, strata and gear. The observer carried out length distributions samplings of the following species: Pandalus borealis, Sebastes spp., Hippoglossoides platessoides, Gadus morhua and Macrourus berglax. Biological samplings of Reinhardtius hippoglossoides, Hippoglossoides platessoides, Gadus morhua and Gadus ogac were also carried out. Greenland halibut was the main species caught and the cephalopods, target species, have not been found in the experimental fishing

Regenerative Medicine is an emerging field that combines basic research and clinical observations in order to identify the elements required to replace damaged tissues and organs in vivo and to stimulate the body's intrinsic regenerative capacity. Great benefits are expected in this field as researchers take advantage of the potential regenerative properties of both embryonic and adult stem cells, and more recently, of induced pluripotent stem cells. Bioengineered skin emerged mainly in response to a critical need for early permanent coverage of extensive burns. Later this technology was also applied to the treatment of chronic ulcers. Our group has established a humanized mouse model of skin grafting that involves the use of bioengineered human skin in immunodeficient mice. This model is suitable for the study of physiologic and pathologic cutaneous processes and the evaluation of treatment strategies for skin diseases, including protocols for gene and cell therapy and tissue engineering. Our work has been funded by the Spanish Department of Science and Innovation (SAF2007-61019 and SAF 2010-16976), by the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Enfermedades Raras (CIBERER), and by the Ministry of Health (Advanced Therapies Plan, TRA 0160)
