One of the fundamental characteristics of the historical avant-garde movements is the transnational relationship between their members through the creation of a network of journals working as a distributed feedback polysystem. After an article on the Ultraist presence in Polish magazines, the author continues to analyze the map of the translations of the first Spanish avant-garde in Europe. This article deals with the reception of Ultraism in Brussels and Antwerp in the early '20s, which was preceded by an early relationship between some Catalonian and Belgian avant-garde poets. A later article will deal with the reception of Ultraism in the avant-garde journals in Ghent

Technology is uniquely transforming our society to a significant degree. This transformation has been described as Industry 4.0 and encompasses machine learning, computerization, automation, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Industry 4.0 is currently impacting the United States’ workplace and is projected in continue uniquely changing our society over the next twenty years or so. Looking specifically at the AEC industry, this paper researches how the AEC industry workplace could be impacted by Industry 4.0 over the next several years. The hypothesis that jobs more at risk for automation should see low or negative growth and lower wages over the next several years was tested by using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) occupational wage data and growth projections to create an opportunity value for each occupation, and then evaluating the relationship between the opportunity value and probability of automation. A statistical significance was found between the two variables. The hypothesis that certain skills are particularly associated with high growth/high wage jobs versus low growth/low wage jobs was tested by scraping important skills/qualities from the individual occupational webpages hosted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and then comparing the approximately top 80% of skills scraped between the two groups. Certain skills/qualities were found to be particularly associated with each group. Finally, the occupations associated with the AEC industry were compared with the findings from the first two hypotheses. The discoveries were that the AEC industry is potentially more susceptible to Industry 4.0 than other industries. This research is of significance because research into how the AEC industry workplace will be impacted by Industry 4.0 over the next several years was not found in the research background, and it has implications on potential career choices, skill requirements, and areas of research and development. Recommendations for future work include utilizing new data sources, Monte Carlo simulations, cohort analysis, and cluster analysis to make more specific forecasts on Industry 4.0’s impact on the AEC industry.M.S

The Polish poet Tadeusz Peiper (1891-1969) -one of the leading figures of the Polish literary avant-garde and founder of the Awangarda Krakowska movement- was chiefly responsible for introducing Ultraist poetry into Poland. After returning to his reborn nation in 1921 (he had spent the First World War years in Madrid), he came into contact with the Polish Futurist magazine Formisci and the avant-garde journal Nowa Sztuka, in which he published poems by Vicente Huidobro and several Ultra poets, notably including some of the first poems by Jorge Luis Borges to be translated into a foreign language. The present article examines Peiper's translations from a textual point of view, without losing sight of their importance for the construction of his own contribution: the Awangarda Krakowska movement. In the appendix we present the first translation into Spanish of the article "Nowa poezjia hiszpanska" (Nowa Sztuka, February 1922), in which Peiper outlined his interpretation of the Madrid Ultra, as well as the original texts and their translation into Polish of the anthology of Ultraist poetry which it accompanied by way of introduction

Strategic assessment of transport infrastructure Plans on European integration. Application for the Spanish Strategic Transport and Infrastructure Plan 2005-2020

    Get PDF
Traditional transport infrastructure assessment methodologies rarely include the full range of strategic benefits for the transportation system. One of these benefits is the contribution to cross-border integration. However, this is a key issue in strategic planning and decision-making processes, as its inclusion may increase the probability of large-scale transport infrastructure projects being funded. This paper presents a methodology for the measurement of the contribution of Transport Infrastructure Plans to cross-border integration. The methodology is based on the measurement of the improvement in network efficiency in cross-border regions of neighboring countries, via accessibility calculations in a Geographical Information System (GIS) support. The methodology was tested by applying it to the ambitious road and rail network extensions included in the Spanish Strategic Transport and Infrastructure Plan (PEIT) 2005-2020. The results show significant and important network efficiency improvements of the PEIT outside the Spanish border. For the road mode, while the Spanish average accessibility improvement accounts for 2.6%, average improvements in cross-border regions of France and Portugal are of 1.8%. And for the rail mode, the corresponding Spanish value is 34.5%, whereas in neighboring regions it accounts for 20.2%. These results stress the significant importance of this strategic benefit and the consequent need for its inclusion in strategic planning processes. Finally, the paper identifies the potential of the methodology when applied at different administrative levels, such as the local or state levels

A FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE ACQUISITION OF LANGUAGE AS BEHAVIOR

    Get PDF
Palavras-chave: linguagem, comportamento convencional, despreendimento funcional, contingênciasubstitutiva, interações diádicasA functional analysis of language must take into account the difference between interactions among individuals and the products or vestiges of these interactions. Although morphological features of language as conventional behavior are important, they are not sufficient to distinguish between linguistic and non-linguistic behavior. This paper examines several aspects involved in the functional analysis of language as behaviour: a) the acquisition of conventional reactional systems, b) the functional detachment of  responses, c) linguistic behavior as substitutional contingency  interactions, d) the identification of functional stages in the development of conventional behaviour as language behavior, and, e) the analysis of language as an interactive process. Key words: language, conventional behavior, functional detachment, substitutional contingency, dyadicinteraction

A raster-vector approach to GIS modelling: Natural Quality cartography

The Surveying Department and the Transport Research Centre of the Polytechnic University ofMadrid (TRANSyT) cooperated on a research project where the generation of a Natural Quality map for the Peninsular Spain and Balearic Islands was one of the main outcomes. The main purpose of this cartography is to assist on the development of Environmental Reports for Strategic Environmental Assessments procedures. Some local, regional, national and international organizations have been consulted in order to obtain suitable GIS thematic databases, including the recent Spanish infrastructure of spatial data (IDEE), the European Environmental Agency and the Spanish nature data bank. The methodology begins with integration and normalization processes of data format (ESRI coverage), data accuracy (100 m), projection and datum (Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area – European Terrestrial Reference System 1989) with the aim of homogenising spatial data sets. The generation of this Natural Quality map implies the combination of a significant number of maps, finally 12. This high number of variables resulted in a very complex methodology, which forced researchers to work with raster data instead of vector. Raster combination of data has proved to be an efficient way of simulating a vector approach for a high number of datasets. This resulted in a raster map which attribute data was a vector comprising information from 12 environmental variables. Finally, a synthetic map was yielded through reclassification of the vector previously obtained. This map was assessed for consistency using various protected areas. The developed methodology, based on the used of GIS, has demonstrated the viability of implementation and convenience for future analysis

Impact of a Multichannel Blocker in Attenuating Intramyocardial Artery Remodeling in Hypertensive Rats through Increased Nitric Oxide Bioavailability.

Dronedarone is recommended for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. However, we do not know its effect on vascular remodeling. This study was designed to assess whether dronedarone has the potential to improve the intramyocardial artery remodeling induced by chronic hypertension. Ten-month-old male spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were randomly assigned to receive dronedarone (100mg/kg) or vehicle. Age-matched maleWistar-Kyoto rats served as controls. After 14 days of treatment, we studied the structure (geometry and fibrosis) of the intramyocardial artery using histological analysis. Nitric oxide (NO) in plasma was analyzed. In the untreated SHR, we observed a significant increase in external diameter, lumen diameter, wall width, cross-sectional area, and collagen volume density, as was expected in the experimental model. Dronedarone induced a significant decrease in wall width, cross-sectional area, and collagen volume density in SHR-D in comparison with untreated SHR. The values obtained in SHR-D were similar in the WKY control group. We found significantly higher NO levels in plasma in SHR-D than in untreated SHR. Dronedarone improves the intramyocardial artery remodeling induced by chronic hypertension in SHR through increased nitric oxide bioavailability.post-print459 K
