    Phoebe's orbit from ground-based and space-based observations

The ephemeris of Phoebe, the ninth satellite of Saturn, is not very accurate. Previous dynamical models were usually too simplified, the astrometry is heterogeneous and, the Saturn's ephemeris itself is an additionnal source of error. The aim is to improve Phoebe's ephemeris by using a large set of observations, correcting some systematic errors and updating the dynamical model. The dynamical model makes use of the most recent ephemeris of planets and Saturnian satellites. The astrometry of Phoebe is improved by using a compilation of ground-based and space-based observations and by correcting the bias in stellar catalogues used for the reduction. We present an accurate ephemeris of Phoebe with residuals of 0.45 arcsec and with an estimated accuracy of Phoebe's position of less that 100 km on 1990-2020 period.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, accepted by A&

Single-cell Transcriptomics of Murine Mural Cells Reveals Cellular Heterogeneity

Mural cells (MCs) wrap around the endothelium, and participate in the development and homeostasis of vasculature. MCs have been reported as heterogeneous population morphologically and functionally. However, the transcriptional heterogeneity of MCs was rarely studied. In this study, we illustrated the transcriptional heterogeneity of MCs with different perspectives by using publicly available single-cell dataset GSE109774. Specifically, MCs are transcriptionally different from other cell types, and ligand-receptor interactions of different cells with MCs vary. Re-clustering of MCs identified five distinct subclusters. The heterogeneity of MCs in tissues was reflected by MC coverage, various distribution of MC subclusters, and ligand-receptor interactions of MCs and parenchymal cells. The transcriptomic diversity of MCs revealed in this article will help facilitate further research into MCs

Cationic Porphyrins with Large Side Arm Substituents as Resonance Light Scattering Ratiometric Probes for Specific Recognition of Nucleic Acid G-quadruplexes

Specific G-quadruplex-probing is crucial for both biological sciences and biosensing applications. Most reported probes are focused on fluorescent or colorimetric recognition of G-quadruplexes. Herein, for the first time, we reported a new specific G-quadruplex-probing technique—resonance light scattering (RLS)-based ratiometric recognition. To achieve the RLS probing of G-quadruplexes in the important physiological pH range of 7.4-6.0, four water soluble cationic porphyrin derivatives, including an unreported octa-cationic porphyrin, with large side arm substituents were synthesized and developed as RLS probes. These RLS probes were demonstrated to work well for ratiometric recognition of G-quadruplexes with high specificity against single- and double-stranded DNAs, including long double-stranded ones. The working mechanism was speculated to be based on the RLS signal changes caused by porphyrin protonation that was promoted by the end-stacking of porphyrins on Gquadruplexes. This work adds an important member in G-quadruplex probe family, thus providing a useful tool for studies on G-quadruplex-related events concerning G-quadruplex formation, destruction and changes in size, shape and aggregation. As a proofof-concept example of applications, the RLS probes were demonstrated to work well for label-free and sequence-specific sensing of microRNA. This work also provides a simple and useful way for the preparation of cationic porphyrins with high charges

Changes in Spatial Patterns of Caragana stenophylla along a Climatic Drought Gradient on the Inner Mongolian Plateau

Few studies have investigated the influence of water availability on plant population spatial patterns. We studied changes in the spatial patterns of Caragana stenophylla along a climatic drought gradient within the Inner Mongolian Plateau, China. We examined spatial patterns, seed density, “nurse effects” of shrubs on seedlings, transpiration rates and water use efficiency (WUE) of C. stenophylla across semi-arid, arid, and intensively arid zones. Our results showed that patches of C. stenophylla populations shifted from a random to a clumped spatial pattern towards drier environments. Seed density and seedling survival rate of C. stenophylla decreased from the semi-arid zone to the intensively arid zone. Across the three zones, there were more C. stenophylla seeds and seedlings underneath shrub canopies than outside shrub canopies; and in the intensively arid zone, there were almost no seeds or seedlings outside shrub canopies. Transpiration rates of outer-canopy leaves and WUE of both outer-canopy and inner-canopy leaves increased from the semi-arid zone to the intensively arid zone. In the intensively arid zone, transpiration rates and WUE of inner-canopy leaves were significantly lower and higher, respectively, than those of outer-canopy leaves. We conclude that, as drought stress increased, seed density decreased, seed proportions inside shrubs increased, and “nurse effects” of shrubs on seedlings became more important. These factors, combined with water-saving characteristics associated with clumped spatial patterns, are likely driving the changes in C. stenophylla spatial patterns

Pharmacology of Chinese materia medica use modern scientific methods based on the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to study the interactional regulations between the body and Chinese materia medica. It aims to explain the mechanism and the scientific basis of the effects of traditional Chinese medicine. Research team has found that Yinqiao Powder has good effect on the mouse model of upper respiratory trace mucosal immunity dysfunction induced by cold stimulation with bacteria and viruses. Therefore, the function of Yinqiao Powder in the prevention and in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infection (AURI) cannot be explained only by antibacterial and antiviral properties. The effects of Yinqiao Powder on AURI may be mediated by the improvement of the function of upper respiratory mucosal immune system
