Electrochemical Reduction of Uranium (VI) to Uranium (IV) in Carbonate Solutions

The purpose of this work was to investigate the possibility of preparation of uranium dioxide by electrochemical reduction of uranium(VI) from alkali carbonate solutions. There are many interesting features in deciding whether or not the electrochemical process is applicable to certain conditions of solution equilibria in the uranium-carbonate system. The study ·of the reduction of uranium(VI) from carbonate solutions has been undertaken to determine the reduction potential-current density relationship, the current efficiency, and the O/U ratio in the precipitated uranium dioxide, for which only scarce data are available in the literature

Beitrage zur Kenntnis der Papierelektrophorese in ieuchter Kammer III. Die Verwertung der H-Kurven

Die zur Elektrophorese verwe ndete Pufferlosung besteht gewohnlich aus einem Puffersystem, der das pH garantiert, und einem System von neutralen Salzen, die zusammen mit dem Puffersystem die erforderliiche elektrische Leitfahigkeit der Losung erteilen. Es wird die mittlere apparente Feldstarke an einem bestimmten Ort des Filterpapierstreifens als Funktion der Strom lichte und des betreffenden Konzenkierungsfaktors di dargestellt. Daraus ergibt sich die Stromspannung an den freien Enden des Filterpapierstreifens als Funktion der Stromdichte und der momentanen Konzentrierungskurve (di -Kurve) am Filterpapierstreifen sowie die Berechnung von Pufferlosungen, die ausser pH auch eine fur die Elektrophorese gunstige elektrische Leitfahigkeit besitzen

Beitrage zur Kenntnis der Papierelektrophorese in feuchter Kammer. I. Die papierelektrophoretische Trennfahigkeit

Im Folgendem wird die Wirkung der physikalischen Vorgange, die sich am Filterpapier wahrend der Elektrophorese in feuchter Kammer abspielen, auf die apparente Bewegungsform der Kolloidteilchen studiert. Weiter wird gezeigt dass diese Bewegungsform vom verwendeten Arbeitsregime und von den elektrokinetischen Eigenschaften der Kolloidteilchen abhangt. Es ergibt sich daraus dass das verwendete experimentelle Verfahren einen grundsatzlichen Unterschied von allen anderen Elektrophoreseverfahren aufweist. Dieser Unterschied ikann in konkretem Falle zur besserer Trennung der elektrokinetischen Fraktionen benutzt werden

Beitrage zur Kenntnis der Papierelektrophorese in feuchter Kammer II. Elektrische Messungen

Im Folgenden wird eine Experimentalapparatur beschrieben, die es ermoglicht, einige wichtige physikalische Vorgange, an denen sich die Puffer - bzw. Elektrolytlosung beteiligt, wahrend der Elektrophorese in feuchter Kammer messend zu verfolgen. Ausser der Stromstarke wurde auch das Spannungsgefalle in den einzelpen charakteristischen Teilen der Apparatur nach der Kompensationsmethode gemessen. Mittels der Kompensationsmethode wurden auch die Veranderungen der mittleren apparenten Feldstarke Iangs des Filterpapierstreifens zeitlich verfolgt. Diese Messungen geben ein quantitatives Bild der Zustandsanderungen, die in Mitteilung I. dieser Aufsatzreihe nur qualitativ durch das Studium der apparenten Bewegungsform der Kolloidteilchen erfasst wurden

Preparation of Uranium Dioxide by Electrochemical Reduction in Carbonate Solution and Subsequent Precipitation. II. Precipitation of Uranium(IV) from Sodium Carbonate Solutions

The precipitation of uranium(IV) from sodium carbonate solutions has been studied. Uranium(IV) has been prepared by electrochemic al reduction at controlled constant potential at the -mercury cathode. From the stable solution uranium(IV) precipitates as hydrous oxide. The dependence of the degree of precipitation of uranium(IV) on the composition of the solution is given, considering the carbonate to uranium concentration ratio, th e total sodium carbonate concentration, and the pH of the solution. Th e precipitation was induced and performed also by raisi ng the temperature up to 60° C. Ex perimental limits of the solubility of uranium(IV) carbonate complex es, at 60° C and at pH = 9.5 and 10.3, indicate the possibil ity of the existence of the uranium(IV) in solution predominantly as the [U(OH)2 (C03) 4]-6 complex
