    A research on determination of tannin in rambutan leaf (Nephelium lappaceum) by the ultraviolet visible spectrophotometry method has been done. Determination was done to investigate the tannin content in rambutan leaf. Extraction method used in this research was maceration method. Extract was added by reagent Folin Denis and Natrium Carbonate anhydrate and subsequently read at particular maximum wavelength and operating time. Forming reaction that happened was oxidize reduction where tannin as reductor and folin Denis as oxidator. Result of oxidation formed blue color which could be read maximal wavelength. Result of the mean of tannin content in young rambutan leaf was 6.25 % with SD equal to 0.08327 and CV equal to 1.3 %. The mean of tannin content old rambutan leaf, SD, and CV was 6.62%, 0.02309% and CV 0.35%, respectively. T-test showed that there were differences of tannin content in young and old rambutan leaves.     Deleterious variants in TRAK1 disrupt mitochondrial movement and cause fatal encephalopathy

In neurons, mitochondrial trafficking is crucial because of high energy needs and calcium ion buffering along axons to synapses during neurotransmission. The trafficking kinesin proteins (TRAKs) are well characterized for their role in lysosomal and mitochondrial trafficking in cells, especially neurons. Using whole exome sequencing, we identified homozygous truncating variants in TRAK1 (NM_001042646:c.287-2A > C), in six lethal encephalopathic patients from three unrelated families. The pathogenic variant results in aberrant splicing and significantly reduced gene expression at the RNA and protein levels. In comparison with normal cells, TRAK1-deficient fibroblasts showed irregular mitochondrial distribution, altered mitochondrial motility, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential, and diminished mitochondrial respiration. This study confirms the role of TRAK1 in mitochondrial dynamics and constitutes the first report of this gene in association with a severe neurodevelopmental disorder.D.M.E. and J.K. are supported by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Grant N000141410538.     Cruel to be kind but not cruel for cash : harm aversion in the dictator game

    People regularly take prosocial actions, making individual sacrifices for the greater good. Similarly, people generally avoid causing harm to others. These twin desires to do good and avoid harm often align, but sometimes they can diverge, creating situations of moral conflict. Here, we examined this moral conflict using a modified dictator game. Participants chose how much money to allocate away from a recipient who was designated as an orphan, creating a sense of harm. This money was then reallocated to either the participant or a charity. People were strongly prosocial: they allocated more money away from the orphan for charity than for themselves. Furthermore, people left more money with the orphan when the harm was framed as a means (taking) than as a side effect (splitting). As is predicted by dual-process theories of moral decision making, response times were longer with the take action and were positively correlated with the amount taken from the orphan. We concluded that just as people take positive actions for the greater good, they are similarly more willing to cause harm when it benefits others rather than themselves

    Identification of human nephron progenitors capable of generation of kidney structures and functional repair of chronic renal disease

    Identification of tissue-specific renal stem/progenitor cells with nephrogenic potential is a critical step in developing cell-based therapies for renal disease. In the human kidney, stem/progenitor cells are induced into the nephrogenic pathway to form nephrons until the 34 week of gestation, and no equivalent cell types can be traced in the adult kidney. Human nephron progenitor cells (hNPCs) have yet to be isolated. Here we show that growth of human foetal kidneys in serum-free defined conditions and prospective isolation of NCAM1(+) cells selects for nephron lineage that includes the SIX2-positive cap mesenchyme cells identifying a mitotically active population with in vitro clonogenic and stem/progenitor properties. After transplantation in the chick embryo, these cells—but not differentiated counterparts—efficiently formed various nephron tubule types. hNPCs engrafted and integrated in diseased murine kidneys and treatment of renal failure in the 5/6 nephrectomy kidney injury model had beneficial effects on renal function halting disease progression. These findings constitute the first definition of an intrinsic nephron precursor population, with major potential for cell-based therapeutic strategies and modelling of kidney disease
