This Joint International Seminar Proceeding is intended and aimed at reexploring the values of modern science that have been lost. Considering the current crisis of modern civilization, constructing principles of modern science which are based on divinity and humanity is a must as well as formulating spiritualized framework of modern science. Therefore, this proceeding identifies not only the agenda of modern science and technology which are based on divinity principles but also extensive strategic networks for Islamic science development that are useful for civilization development. Through this proceeding, UIN Walisongo in cooperation with UTM Malaysia performed a civilizational duty to discuss some important topics such as the humanization of science and technology, the unity of sciences for humanity, Muslim contribution to Asian civilization, and science and technology future agenda. Measuring Firms’ R&D Effects on Technical Progress: Japan in the 199

One of the important public policy issues in science and technology is to ascertain if and how firms' investments in research and development (R&D) contribute to technical progress at firm and industry levels. Griliches (1979) made a pioneering contribution to our understanding of economic growth by pointing out that accumulation of firms' investments in R&D and creation of knowledge will lead to technical progress. In this paper we present a method based on index number theory for estimating technical progress and then apply it for estimating technical progress for Japanese manufacturing firms in the 1990s. Design Project Spotlight: NASA Vehicle Assembly Building High Bay 3 Platform Modifications The Next Great Steps

With the conclusion of the Shuttle program, High Bay 3 became the first portion of the VAB to undergo the evolution to support things to come. In their twilight, the Shuttle teams that witnessed the transformation from the Apollo program lent their expertise and wisdom, gained from their years of service, to guide conceptual development of the form and function of the platforms. NASA Leadership from Charlie Gambaro was key in this process. RS&H was engaged to design what others suggested would be impossible: create a highly versatile, readily adaptable set of platforms, to meet the initial requirements of the SLS rocket –the most powerful rocket in the world –as well as accommodate the vertical integration of various rockets in future spacecraft processing. Finalmente se especula sobre las posibilidades de las TIC para generar entornos de trabajo inteligentes que generen y gestionen conocimiento para la solución de problemas prácticos

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time

We often learn of successful pedagogical experiments, but we seldom hear of the the ones that failed. For this special session we solicited submissions from the SIGCSE membership, selected the best from among these, and will have presentations at the session by the selected authors. Our contributions describe pedagogical approaches that seemed to be good ideas but turned out as failures. At the session, contributors will describe their pedagogical experiment, the rationale for the experiment, evidence of failure, and lessons learned
