SOME REMARKS ON THE CONCENTRATION OF WEALTH IN THE CONTEXT OF ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION

    Get PDF
The income and wealth distribution are fundamental variables on understanding social and economic inequality. This article analyses causes we consider relevant of the increase in economic inequality and world wealth concentration. It approaches the impact of economic globalization, in the context of trade and financial integration, and effects of technological change and evolutions in the field of labor market. If globalization and technological change were long considered crucial drivers of inequality trends in different countries, over different decades, for economic inequality many studies are now documenting the importance of changes in various markets. Also, the author tries to examine the interplay of these factors on distribution and creating gaps on wealth between countries

Diasporas and development: An examination of migrants’ role in their home countries through a survey of the literature

Sin embargo, existen diversos factores que señalan que habrá más oportunidades de éxito en el futuroThis article explores the notion of feedback loops between return migration, or the repatriation of migrants to their native country, and that country’s development. Having laid out the background that argues the existence of a global shortage of talent, the article examines the empirical research framework for return migration and past waves of such migration from northern Europe back south. It then compares and contrasts two known occurrences of mass return migration by analyzing the case studies of Taiwan in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as Poland following its accession to the European Union. The articles concludes that while feedback loops between return migration and the source country’s development do exist, the potential for policy to bring these feedback loops about has so far been limited. However, several factors point to higher chances of success in the future

GLOBAL VALUE CHAINS AND ITS IMPACT FROM AN ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION PERSPECTIVE

    Get PDF
Global value chains (GVCs) are increasing during the past decade, thereby raising new policy challenges for many countries, regarding various fields, as trade, competitiveness, innovation and management of global systemic risk. Today, world economy is characterized by global value chains in which intermediate goods and services are traded in fragmented and dispersed production processes. Therefore, the study of global value chains adds to understanding the nature of today’s geographically dispersed activities. In this article we try to analyze not only the evolution of value chains, but, in the same time, the changing features of this phenomenon in the last few years

A Comparison between E-learning Resources currently used in Project Management Online Training

    Get PDF
E-learning has become popular among learners of all ages and different domains, while project management is one of the many practices that have been impacted by the 21st-century online digital environment. The goal of this paper is to explore and compare current e-learning resources that help online train and continuously educate IT project managers in software developing industries. As to the methodology, a qualitative method will be used for applied research: inductive approach - inductive reasoning. Each identified resource will be provided with a narrative description based on process-oriented interrogations. In the end, a comparison will be made between the existing online platforms offering project management related courses, in order to help conclude which e-learning materials are best to be used by project managers nowadays, taking into consideration their educational needs. CHALLENGES AND DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS FOR TOURISM IN ROMANIA

    Get PDF
Tourism in Romania has witnessed in recent years a sinuous evolution marked to a great extent by a multitude of private initiatives and to a lesser extent by strategic coordination at governmental and regional level, respectively. The development of tourism is somewhat chaotic and unplanned, devoid of any inclusive, holistic vision concerning the correlation between transport infrastructure investments and investments in accommodation and tourist destinations. This led to a paradoxical situation in which areas with great tourism potential (e.g. the Danube Delta) are hardly accessible to foreign tourists/tourists from faraway regions. The attraction of such tourists is accomplished by primitive means, without any strategic thinking or appropriate planning. The authorities’ great disinterest and disengagement notwithstanding, Romania as a tourist destination possesses some major advantages stemming from its high potential for development in various directions. Entire tourism sectors (spa-based, mountain, cultural tourism etc.) are not yet exploited at maximum capacity while tourism initiatives undertaken by various entities are not sufficiently developed. In this paper, the authors attempt to highlight the main strategic development directions of tourism in Romania, pointing to Romania’s major advantages as a tourist destination and drawing attention to the primary courses of action that must carefully be considered by decision makers in developing a viable tourism strategy

Effect of the Source Term on Steady Free Convection Boundary Layer Flows over an Vertical Plate in a Porous Medium. Part I

    Get PDF
The Darcy free convection boundary layer flow over a vertical flat plate is considered in the presence of volumetric heat generation/absorption. In the present first part of the paper it is assumed that the heat generation/absorption takes place in a self-consistent way, the source term q ′′′≡ S of the energy equation being an analytical function of the local temperature difference T−T ∞. In a forthcoming second part, the case of the externally controlled source terms S=S(x,y ) will be considered. It is shown that due to the presence of S, the physical equivalence of the up- and downflows gets in general broken, in the sense that the free convection flow over the upward projecting hot plate ("upflow”) and over its downward projecting cold counterpart ("downflow”) in general become physically distinct. The consequences of this circumstance are examined for different forms of S. Several analytical solutions are given. Some of them describe algebraically decaying boundary layers which can also be recovered as limiting cases of exponentially decayingones. This asymptotic phenomenon is discussed in some detai

ROMANIAN TOURISM: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

    Get PDF
Tourism is one of the factors that foster the interconnection and development of societies and the formation of interdependent economic, social and cultural relationships. Tourism may generate competitive advantage for a country, thereby contributing to its economic progress and to a proper assessment of its products on an international level. Recent studies on tourism have shown that the social and cultural structures of the world countries have undergone considerable changes due to the impact of international tourism. Taking into account the above aspects, the authors attempt to highlight the post-communist evolution of tourism in Romania as well as its possible development directions depending on the factors that might help Romania emerge as an important international tourist destination. To this effect, the authors provide a number of arguments in favor of the tourism potential of a former communist country, emphasizing the prospects, opportunities and risks associated with its global integration
