Long term compensatory sweating results after sympathectomy for palmar and axillary hyperhidrosis

Case-specific parametric analysis as research-directing tool for analysis and design of GFRP-RC structures
This paper presents a parametric analysis of the ACI440 (2015) and AASHTO (2009) algorithms governing the flexural design of a one-way concrete member internally reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars. The influence of specific design parameters on the required amount of reinforcement is investigated. The aim is to identify variables and requirements governing the design of a large-section GFRP reinforced concrete (RC) member. The member considered for this case-specific analysis is the reinforced concrete pile cap of the Halls River Bridge (Homosassa, FL), which is deemed representative of large-section GFRP-RC members operating as bent caps in short-span bridges. The influence of four critical parameters on the required amount of reinforcement is assessed. Salient analysis and design implications are discussed with respect to creep and fatigue rupture stress limits, minimum amount of flexural reinforcement, and applicable strength reduction factors. The outcomes of the parametric analysis highlight an untapped potential to reduce the required amount of reinforcement, and prioritize research areas to advance the development of rational design algorithms. Salvage resection of advanced mediastinal tumors
The surgical treatment of locally advanced mediastinal tumors invading the great vessels and
other nearby structures still represent a tricky question, principally due to the technical complexity of the
resective phase, the contingent need to carry out viable vascular reconstructions and, therefore, the proper
management of pathophysiologic issues. Published large-number series providing oncologic outcomes
of patients who have undergone extended radical surgery for invasive mediastinal masses are just a few.
Furthermore, the wide variety of different histologies included in some of these studies, as well as the
heterogeneity of chemo and radiation therapies employed, did not allow for the development of clear
oncologic guidelines. Usually in the past, surgical resections of large masses along with the neighbouring
structures were not offered to patients because of related morbidity and mortality and limited information
available on the prognostic advantage for long term. However, in the last decades, advances in surgical
technique and perioperative management, as well as increased oncologic experience in this field, have allowed
radical exeresis in selected patients with invasive tumors requiring resections extended to the surrounding
structures and complex vascular reconstructions. Such aggressive surgical treatment has been proposed in
association or not with adjuvant chemo- or radiotherapy regimens, achieving encouraging oncologic results
with limited morbidity and mortality in experienced institutions. Congestive heart failure or impending
cardiovascular collapse due to the compression by the large mass are the most frequent immediately lifethreatening
problems that some of these patients can experience. In this setting, medical palliation is usually
ineffective and an aggressive salvage surgical treatment may remain the only therapeutic option
An Innovative Model for the Sustainability of Investments in the Wind Energy Sector: The Use of Green Sukuk in an Italian Case Study
In this paper we present the technical-energy-economic feasibility of wind power systems. An Italian 1 Megawatt (MW) case study was considered to evaluate the importance of incentives in order to achieve the grid parity. Due to the severe reduction of incentives in the last years, in the present work we propose the use of Sukuk, a Shari'ah-compliant instrument used in the Islamic Finance, as an alternative financial instrument used to limit the extent of leverage associated with financing. The building cost thresholds necessary to achieve the grid parity and a profitable and bankable project are presented with a sensitivity analysis. In the framework of the efforts against climate change and the emission of greenhouse gas (GHG), our results evidenced the importance of incentives and the applicability of the use of Shari'ah-compliant sukuk instruments in order to provide a feasible and sustainable investment in the wind energy sector.

Distal radius fractures: treatment using the Epibloc system.
Summary The Epiblocâ„¢ system of percutaneous endomedullary internal fixation is best indicated for AO type A2-3 extra-articular fractures of the distal radius and AO type C1 slightly comminuted articular fractures. This system includes pins that can be inserted into the medullary canal and advanced without breaking through the second cortex. This fixation is stabilised by an external plate and rendered dynamic by the pins' elasticity which compresses the fractured surfaces. Moreover, this system results in transversal ligamentotaxis which helps prevent secondary reduction losses. The result of a preliminary series of 326 cases is evaluated

Se ha adaptado agroecológicamente bien a la región, pudiéndose cultivar en los valles andinos regados desde Jujuy hasta la provincia de Neuquén. La producción actual es incipiente y se desarrolla principalmente en sistemas de producción familiares y de forma artesanal. Copper(II) Complexes of Cyclams Containing Nitrophenyl Substituents: Push–Pull Behavior and Scorpionate Coordination of the Nitro Group
The three nitrophenyl–cyclam derivatives (nitrocyclams): 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (2), 1-(2-nitrophenyl)-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (3), and 1-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (4), in an MeCN solution, specifically incorporate the CuII ion according to an irreversible process signaled by disappearance of the yellow color for a concentration c < 1 × 10–4 M and by a yellow-to-red color change for c ≥ 1 × 10–3, and must be considered efficient and specific dosimeters of copper(II) salts. When present in the ortho position of the nitrophenyl substituent, the −NO2 group coordinates the CuII according to a scorpionate mode, while the metallocyclam system exhibits a trans-I configuration. In an MeCN solution the red trans-I-[CuII(3)]2+ and trans-I-[CuII(4)]2+ scorpionate complexes slowly convert into the violet trans-III scorpionate complexes. Kinetic aspects of the trans-I-to-trans-III configurational rearrangement were investigated in detail for the [CuII(4)]2+ system. In particular, the conversion is spectacularly accelerated by catalytic amounts of Cl–, NCO–, and F–. While for Cl– and NCO– the effect can be associated with the capability of the anion to stabilize through coordination a possible dissociative intermediate, the amazingly powerful effect of F– must be related to the preliminary deprotonation of one N–H fragment of the macrocycle, driven by the formation of the HF2– ion. Most of the metal complex species studied in solution were isolated in a crystalline form, and their molecular structures were elucidated through X-ray diffraction studies.
