Synthesis and properties of Poly(L-lactide)-b-poly (L-phenylalanine) hybrid copolymers

Hybrid materials constituted by peptides and synthetic polymers have nowadays a great interest since they can combine the properties and functions of each constitutive block, being also possible to modify the final characteristics by using different topologies. Poly(L-lactide-b-L-phenylalanine) copolymers with various block lengths were synthesized by sequential ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide and the N-carboxyanhydride of L-phenylalanine. The resulting block copolymers were characterized by NMR spectrometry, IR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, MALDI-TOF and UV-vis, revealing the successful incorporation of the polyphenylalanine (PPhe) peptide into the previously formed poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) polymer chain. X-ray diffraction and DSC data also suggested that the copolymers were phase-separated in domains containing either crystalline PLLA or PPhe phases. Una dent clavada a la cavitat nasal d'un gat produïa rinitis crònica

És comú que els gats desenvolupin patologies nasals, però la rinitis crònica diagnosticada en aquest pacient felí és un cas atípic. La gata presentava signes crònics nasals amb esternuts i secrecions nasals mucopurulentes. El tractament amb antibiòtics i antifùngics no va tenir un èxit complet. En realitzar-li radiografies i un TAC nasal, es va observar una estructura òssia dins de la cavitat nasal esquerra, que podria relacionar-se amb una peça dental, doncs a la pacient li mancava el caní superior esquerra. Segurament, la dent va impactar allà degut a una traumatisme anterior a la seva adopció. Es va extreure la peça mitjantçant una rinotomia ventral i se li van administrar diversos antibiòtics i va tenir una evolució favorable. Segurament, es tracta de la primera descripció de rinitis crònica en un gat, causada per la impactació d'una dent a la cavitat nasal.Es común que los gatos desarrollen patologías nasales, pero la rinitis crónica diagnosticada en este paciente felino es un caso atípico.
