Corporatism and Authoritarianism in Latin America: The First Wave

Corporatism put an indelible mark on the first decades of the twentieth century- during the interwar period particularly-both as a set of institutions created by the forced integration of organized interests (mainly independent unions) into the state, and as an organic-statist type of politicaI representation, alternative to liberal democracy.l Variants of corporatism inspired conservative, radicalright, and fascist parties, not to mention the Roman Catholic Church. The so-called "third way" was favored by some sections of the technocratic elites, and even by some on the left of the politicaI spectrum. But it mainly inspired the institutional crafting of dictatorships, from Benito Mussolini's Italy through Primo de Rivera in Spain or the Uriburu dictatorship in Argentina and the New State in Brazil. An Ever-Shadowed Past? Citizens’ Attitudes towards the Dictatorship in Twenty-First Century Portugal

Several years after the transition to democracy, positive attitudes towards the authoritarian past are still observable in Portugal: the belief that the previous regime had more good things than bad things is expressed by about one-fifth  of the Portuguese. What explains this nostalgic sentiment? Are factors such as socialisation under the regime, party identification or religiosity more important than satisfaction with democracy and the state of the economy? The empirical analysis suggests that the relevance of these factors varies considerably, but socialisation phases lead to different stances on the past both in routine times and in times of economic crisis

Diagrama fundamental da educação química: Uma proposta fundamentada na filosofia da química

Este trabalho é, numa primeira etapa, um estudo bibliográfico, através da técnica da análise temática, da produção literária do emergente campo disciplinar da filosofia da química. Como resultado propomos cinco campos de sentido, estruturas transversais e de especificidades químicas, no cruzamento entre filosofia, química e currículo. De posse destas estruturas propomos um diagrama heurístico para a educação química, legitimado pelo confronto com literatura e crítica de experts. Inovação curricular fundamentada na filosofia da química: um estudo de caso na UESB

Este trabalho, resultado de uma pesquisa-ação e pesquisa bibliográfica no contexto de uma inovação curricular, fundamentada no campo disciplinar da filosofia da química, tem dois objetivos principais. Um primeiro é problematizar o lugar do debate da filosofia da química no currículo de formação inicial de professores. Um segundo é mostrar, em um exemplo do currículo real, que este debate tem elementos fundantes suficientes para orientar uma inovação curricular, que é proposta. Tendo como referência este debate foi proposto, em 2005, uma inovação curricular na disciplina historia e filosofia da química na reforma curricular da UESB. A forma padrão de transmissão do conhecimento histórico no currículo de química tem sido positivista, descontextualizada, sem integração à prática de ensino e sem eixos epistemológicos orientadores. Nossa principal motivação, nesta inovação curricular, foi, inicialmente, de oferecer uma alternativa a esta forma padrão. Esta disciplina, ainda em vigor até o presente, mostrou alguns problemas e dificuldades em seu desenho inicial e desenvolvimento curricular. Após identificarmos estes problemas, propomos, repensamos e reformulamos uma nova intervenção em um outro nível de problematizações. Interactions Between Anaerobic Oil Bacteria – Monitoring by Classic and Molecular Microbiology

The biogenic production of sulphide is one of the main problems in oil and gas industry, causing corrosion in storage tanks and pipes. This is possible by the injection of seawater during the secondary oil recovery. In the present work high levels of sulphide and acid producers were detected in water/oil samples from several sites from the petroleum industry. In a further stage, a broader range of microbial cells were detected, and finally, metagenomic analysis confirmed the presence of a diversity of microbes, indicating the complexity of the consortium in the production of sulphide, and based on the activity of acid producing cells and associated species
