With the introduction of the New Accounting Directive, the Directive 2013/34/EU, the obligation of goodwill amortization is back. Because it’s this type of juridical instrument, it will be transposed to each member state. Therefore, this study will analyze how the transposition was made, and besides that, wants to check if the accounting practices of the companies are in conformation with the normative, and consequently, with the New Directive. For that, we made a comparative analysis between two member states, which are Portugal and Spain, since they are neighbors and both presents several similarities between them. Furthermore, in order to gather all of the information that was necessary, we use the SABI platform, which had all the data of both member states. At the end of this investigation, it was possible to conclude that although in theory the regulations of both countries are similar, when analyzing the practice of Portuguese and Spanish companies, this harmonization is not so notorious. As we will see, the behavior in these two countries diverge slightly, and Spain is more in line with the new regulation

Publisher Copyright: © 2022 by the authors.Grisaille is a glass-based paint made by mixing metal oxides (iron or copper) with ground lead-silica glass. The different materials used in the grisailles production (coloring agents, base glasses, or vehicles) can significantly impact their long-term stability along with the firing conditions. The main objective of this study was to achieve a better understanding of how raw materials influence the production and stability of these paints. To achieve this goal, 27 grisailles were produced, changing the raw materials, proportions, and firing conditions. The produced grisailles were characterized by X-ray fluorescence and diffraction, colorimetry, roughness measurement, and contact angle analysis. Adhesion and cleaning tests were also made. The use of different coloring agents has a significant impact on the final appearance and on the chemical and mechanical stability of the grisailles, but the latest is more affected by both firing temperature and the proportion between pigments and base glasses.publishersversionpublishe

Self-medication is defined as the consumption of a drug without guidance or prescription of competent professionals, in which the patient decides that the product will be used. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and frequency of self-medication; characterize the therapy used, reasons, verify the occurrence of undesirable effects and knowledge about the risks; and to determine associated factors. Methods: This cross-sectional and correlational study, had a sample of 330 individuals, 57.0% females and 43.0% males, aged between 18 and 88 years (mean 41.3). Data collection was carried out through a self-administered questionnaire. Statistical analyses were applied measures of central tendency and dispersion, and the chi-square considering a significance level of 5%. Results: The prevalence of self-medication was 87.6%, of which 78.2% self-medicated in the last year, the majority only a few times per year (81.2%), with a minority that makes daily (0.9%). The drugs most frequently used are Paracetamol (75.8%) and Ibuprofen (61.2%), headaches (67.0%) and colds (65.2%) being the main reasons. Among individuals who self-medicate, 52.1% admit to inform physician of non-prescribed drugs used and 83.0% reported not having notied the occurrence of undesirable effects. Of all individuals surveyed, 88.2% claim that self-medication is dangerous for health. Gender and educational level appear to be associated with self-medication (p<0.001 and p=0.01, respectively). Conclusions: Self-medication is highly prevalent, but infrequent over the year. The analgesics and anti-inflammatorys are the most used due to headaches and colds. Self-medication is considered risky to health and appears to be linked to gender and education levelinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Seafood is a highly nutritious and essential component of a healthy diet.1 However, due to its perishable nature, seafood products have short shelf lives, leading to high prices and reduced desirability. In order to address this issue, various innovative techniques, such as High Pressure Processing and Ozonation, have been explored to extend the shelf life of seafood. While efficiency of such techniques varies, the cost of their application is usually high, increasing final price or reducing profit margins. Therefore, easier and cheaper, methods such as the pulverization or immersion of the product in antibacterial solutions are gaining popularity.2 To achieve the required bacterial inhibition and maintain an all-natural label, a seafood product, composed mainly of raw squid (Loligo duvauceli) andshrimp (Parapenaeopsis, Penaeus and Metapenaeus genus) was sprayed and immersed in a red wine vinegar-based solution. To perceive the efficiency of the treatment in the inhibition of unwanted spoilage bacteria, analysis of bacterial communities through sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene amplicons with NGS technologies (paired-end Illumina) was performed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

In this work, porous zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures are incorporated as a UV sensing material into the composition of a sustainable water-based screen-printable ink composed of car-boxymethyl cellulose (CMC). The formulated ink is used to fabricate flexible and foldable UV sensors on ubiquitous office paper. The screen-printed CMC/ZnO UV sensors operate under low voltage (≤2 V) and reveal a stable response over several on/off cycles of UV light exposure. The devices reach a response current of 1.34 ± 0.15 mA and a rise and fall time of 8.2 ± 1.0 and 22.0 ± 2.3 s, respectively. The responsivity of the sensor is 432 ± 48 mA W−1, which is the highest value reported in the literature for ZnO-based UV sensors on paper substrates. The UV-responsive devices display impressive mechanical endurance under folding, showing a decrease in responsivity of only 21% after being folded 1000 times. Their low-voltage operation and extreme folding stability indicate a bright future for low-cost and sustainable flexible electronics, showing potential for low-power wearable applications and smart packaging.publishersversionpublishe

Public officers play a crucial role in social-ecological management and decision-making processes, but there is a paucity of research exploring their perceptions on ES supply and demand under a changing climate. We address this gap through an exploratory study that analyses the views of public officers on the potential impacts of climate-change related drivers on multiple ES in a major administrative region from Portugal (EU NUTS 3). We combined qualitative spatial data from participatory maps and semi-quantitative answers from questionnaire-based surveys with 22 officers from public institutions contributing to territorial planning. Contrary to other similar studies, public officers shared a common view on the importance of ES. This view aligns with scientific projections on how a changing climate is expected to influence ES in the region over the next decade. In agreement with other observations in Mediterranean regions, the most perceivably valued ES concerned tangible socio-economic benefits (e.g., periurban agriculture and wine production). Surprisingly, despite the region's potential for cultural ES, and considering the impacts that climate change may hold on them, recreation and tourism did not seem to be embedded in the officers' views. We explore the implications of our findings for territorial planning and social-ecological adaptation, considering that the way stakeholders manage the territory in response to climate change depends on the extent to which they are aware and expect to experience climatic consequences in the future.Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovacion y Universidades (Spain) FJC2018-038131IPortuguese Foundation for Science and Technology 2020.01175.CEECIND- DL57/2016/ICETA/EEC2018/13Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia I.P. 2021.03825.CEECIND 951774 (FOXES, H2020-EIC-FETPROACT-2019)Indium oxide (In2O3)-based transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) have been widely used and studied for a variety of applications, such as optoelectronic devices. However, some of the more promising dopants (zirconium, hafnium, and tantalum) for this oxide have not received much attention, as studies have mainly focused on tin and zinc, and even fewer have been explored by solution processes. This work focuses on developing solution-combustion-processed hafnium (Hf)-doped In2O3 thin films and evaluating different annealing parameters on TCO’s properties using a low environmental impact solvent. Optimized TCOs were achieved for 0.5 M% Hf-doped In2O3 when produced at 400 °C, showing high transparency in the visible range of the spectrum, a bulk resistivity of 5.73 × 10−2 Ω.cm, a mobility of 6.65 cm2/V.s, and a carrier concentration of 1.72 × 1019 cm−3. Then, these results were improved by using rapid thermal annealing (RTA) for 10 min at 600 °C, reaching a bulk resistivity of 3.95 × 10−3 Ω.cm, a mobility of 21 cm2/V.s, and a carrier concentration of 7.98 × 1019 cm−3, in air. The present work brings solution-based TCOs a step closer to low-cost optoelectronic applications.publishersversionpublishe

Microbiological characterization of protected designation of origin Serra da Estrela cheese

    Get PDF
Serra da Estrela is the oldest and most recognizable traditional protected designation of origin (PDO) cheese from Portugal. It has been extensively studied over the years, but the latest microbial characterization is 20 years old. Hence, this work aimed to perform an updated characterization of Serra da Estrela PDO cheeses and raw materials. Our analysis showed that lactic acid bacteria content on Serra da Estrela cheeses exceeded 8.8 log CFUsg−1 , in all analyzed samples, with lactococci, lactobacilli and Leuconostoc spp. predominating over enterococci strains. Moreover, lactococci and lactobacilli abundance increased across the production season, while enterococci dropped considerably in late manufactures. Lastly, Leuconostoc spp. content remained unchanged in all analyzed periods. A correspondence analysis showed that L. paracasei, L. lactis, E. durans, E. faecium and L. mesenteroides are transversal in Serra da Estrela cheese manufacturing and were closely associated with milk, curd and cheese matrices. Additionally, L. casei, L. plantarum and L. curvatus were specifically associated with cheese matrices, possibly active during ripening and contributing for the development of these cheeses’ organoleptic characteristics.9814-6B05-9C03 | Ricardo Miguel Pereira Pintoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
