QPSK 3R regenerator using a phase sensitive amplifier
A black box phase sensitive amplifier based 3R regeneration scheme is proposed for non-return to zero quadrature phase shift keyed formatted signals. Performance improvements of more than 2 dB are achieved at the presence of input phase distortion
First experimental demonstration of nonlinear inverse synthesis transmission over transoceanic distances
We demonstrate for the first time, the transmission performance of 10Gbaud nonlinear inverse synthesis based signal over transoceanic distances, showing a significant improvement in data capacity x distance product (x12) compared with other NFT-based systems
Scaling limit of virtual states of triatomic systems
For a system with three identical atoms, the dependence of the wave
virtual state energy on the weakly bound dimer and trimer binding energies is
calculated in a form of a universal scaling function. The scaling function is
obtained from a renormalizable three-body model with a pairwise Dirac-delta
interaction. It was also discussed the threshold condition for the appearance
of the trimer virtual state.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure
Energy-Dependent Timing of Thermal Emission in Solar Flares
We report solar flare plasma to be multi-thermal in nature based on the
theoretical model and study of the energy-dependent timing of thermal emission
in ten M-class flares. We employ high-resolution X-ray spectra observed by the
Si detector of the "Solar X-ray Spectrometer" (SOXS). The SOXS onboard the
Indian GSAT-2 spacecraft was launched by the GSLV-D2 rocket on 8 May 2003.
Firstly we model the spectral evolution of the X-ray line and continuum
emission flux F(\epsilon) from the flare by integrating a series of isothermal
plasma flux. We find that multi-temperature integrated flux F(\epsilon) is a
power-law function of \epsilon with a spectral index (\gamma) \approx -4.65.
Next, based on spectral-temporal evolution of the flares we find that the
emission in the energy range E= 4 - 15 keV is dominated by temperatures of T=
12 - 50 MK, while the multi-thermal power-law DEM index (\gamma) varies in the
range of -4.4 and -5.7. The temporal evolution of the X-ray flux F(\epsilon,t)
assuming a multi-temperature plasma governed by thermal conduction cooling
reveals that the temperature-dependent cooling time varies between 296 and 4640
s and the electron density (n_e) varies in the range of n_e= (1.77-29.3)*10^10
cm-3. Employing temporal evolution technique in the current study as an
alternative method for separating thermal from non-thermal components in the
energy spectra, we measure the break-energy point ranging between 14 and
21\pm1.0 keV.Comment: Solar Physics, in pres
Quality of online self-management resources for adults living with primary brain cancer, and their carers: a systematic environmental scan
Background: A primary brain cancer diagnosis is a distressing, life changing event. It adversely affects the quality of life for the person living with brain cancer and their families (‘carers’). Timely access to evidence-based information is critical to enabling people living with brain cancer, and their carers, to self-manage the devastating impacts of this disease.
Method: A systematic environmental scan of web-based resources. A depersonalised search for online English-language resources published from 2009 to December 2019 and designed for adults (> 25 years of age), living with primary brain cancer, was undertaken using the Google search engine. The online information was classified according to: 1) the step on the cancer care continuum; 2) self-management domains (PRISMS taxonomy); 3) basic information disclosure (Silberg criteria); 4) independent quality verification (HonCode); 5) reliability of disease and treatment information (DISCERN Sections 1 and 2); and readability (Flesch-Kincaid reading grade).
Results: A total of 119 online resources were identified, most originating in England (n = 49); Australia (n = 27); or the USA (n = 27). The majority of resources related to active treatment (n = 76), without addressing recurrence (n = 3), survivorship (n = 1) or palliative care needs (n = 13). Few online resources directly provided self-management advice for adults living with brain cancer or their carers. Just over a fifth (n = 26, 22%) were underpinned by verifiable evidence. Only one quarter of organisations producing resources were HonCode certified (n = 9, 24%). The median resource reliability as measured by Section 1, DISCERN tool, was 56%. A median of 8.8 years of education was required to understand these online resources.
Conclusions: More targeted online information is needed to provide people affected by brain cancer with practical self-management advice. Resources need to better address patient and carer needs related to: rehabilitation, managing behavioural changes, survivorship and living with uncertainty; recurrence; and transition to palliative care. Developing online resources that don’t require a high level of literacy and/or cognition are also required
CPT, T, and Lorentz Violation in Neutral-Meson Oscillations
Tests of CPT and Lorentz symmetry using neutral-meson oscillations are
studied within a formalism that allows for indirect CPT and T violation of
arbitrary size and is independent of phase conventions. The analysis is
particularly appropriate for studies of CPT and T violation in oscillations of
the heavy neutral mesons D, B_d, and B_s. The general Lorentz- and CPT-breaking
standard-model extension is used to derive an expression for the parameter for
CPT violation. It varies in a prescribed way with the magnitude and orientation
of the meson momentum and consequently also with sidereal time. Decay
probabilities are presented for both uncorrelated and correlated mesons, and
some implications for experiments are discussed.Comment: 11 pages, references added, accepted in Physical Review
Selberg Supertrace Formula for Super Riemann Surfaces III: Bordered Super Riemann Surfaces
This paper is the third in a sequel to develop a super-analogue of the
classical Selberg trace formula, the Selberg supertrace formula. It deals with
bordered super Riemann surfaces. The theory of bordered super Riemann surfaces
is outlined, and the corresponding Selberg supertrace formula is developed. The
analytic properties of the Selberg super zeta-functions on bordered super
Riemann surfaces are discussed, and super-determinants of Dirac-Laplace
operators on bordered super Riemann surfaces are calculated in terms of Selberg
super zeta-functions.Comment: 43 pages, amste
Collective dynamics of internal states in a Bose gas
Theory for the Rabi and internal Josephson effects in an interacting Bose gas
in the cold collision regime is presented. By using microscopic transport
equation for the density matrix the problem is mapped onto a problem of
precession of two coupled classical spins. In the absence of an external
excitation field our results agree with the theory for the density induced
frequency shifts in atomic clocks. In the presence of the external field, the
internal Josephson effect takes place in a condensed Bose gas as well as in a
non-condensed gas. The crossover from Rabi oscillations to the Josephson
oscillations as a function of interaction strength is studied in detail.Comment: 18 pages, 2 figure
From nonwetting to prewetting: the asymptotic behavior of 4He drops on alkali substrates
We investigate the spreading of 4He droplets on alkali surfaces at zero
temperature, within the frame of Finite Range Density Functional theory. The
equilibrium configurations of several 4He_N clusters and their asymptotic trend
with increasing particle number N, which can be traced to the wetting behavior
of the quantum fluid, are examined for nanoscopic droplets. We discuss the size
effects, inferring that the asymptotic properties of large droplets correspond
to those of the prewetting film
