Investigation of the Porosity of Poly(sodium methacrylate) Hydrogels by ¹H‐NMR T₂‐Relaxation and Inverse Size‐Exclusion Chromatography

    Get PDF
A series of poly(sodium methacrylate) hydrogels, also called superabsorbents, having a theoretical degree of neutralization of 100 mol%, and degree of crosslinking varying from 0.6 to 20 mol%, are synthesized via conventional free radical polymerization. The networks are characterized in detail by inverse size-exclusion chromatography and 1H-NMR relaxometry in order to place particular emphasis on the investigation of the pore size distribution (PSD) and the chain mobility, respectively. The two previously mentioned parameters are compared to understand the correlation between the elastic chain mobilities and the average pore size of the hydrogel. From the resulting data, a new empirical equation is proposed, which is valid under the given experimental conditions and permits a rough estimation of the average PSD from the relaxation data. Thus, the equation permits to reduce the number of analytical techniques needed for the characterization of complex systems such as polymer networks.</p

SeaFlows Toolset - Compliance Verification Made Easy for Process-aware Information Systems

    Get PDF
In the light of an increasing demand on business process compliance, the verication of process models against compliance rules has become essential in enterprise computing. The SeaFlows Toolset featured in this paper extends process-aware information systems with compliance checking functionality. It provides a user-friendly environment for modeling compliance rules using a graph-based formalism and for enriching process models with these rules. To address a multitude of verification settings, we provide two complementary compliance checking approaches: The structural compliance checking approach derives structural criteria from compliance rules and applies them to detect incompliance. The data-aware behavioral compliance checking approach addresses the state explosion problem that can occur when the data dimension is explored during compliance checking. It performs context-sensitive automatic abstraction to derive an abstract process model which is more compact with regard to the data dimension enabling more efficient compliance checking. Altogether, SeaFlows Toolset constitutes a comprehensive and extensible framework for compliance checking of process models

Plasmid-Mediated Transmission of KPC-2 Carbapenemase in Enterobacteriaceae in Critically III Patients

Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) cause health care-associated infections worldwide, and they are of severe concern due to limited treatment options. We report an outbreak of KPC-2-producing CRE that was caused by horizontal transmission of a promiscuous plasmid across different genera of bacteria and hospitals in Germany. Eleven isolates (8 Citrobacter freundii, 2 Klebsiella oxytoca, and 1 Escherichia coli) were obtained from seven critically ill patients during the six months of the outbreak in 2016. One patient developed a CRE infection while the other six patients were CRE-colonized. Three patients died in the course of the hospital stay. Six of the seven patients carried the same C. freundii clone; one K. oxytoca clone was found in two patients, and one patient carried E. coli and C. freundii. Molecular analysis confirmed the presence of a conjugative, blaKPC-2-carrying 70 kb-IncN plasmid in C. freundii and E. coli and an 80 kb-IncN plasmid in K. oxytoca. All transconjugants harbored either the 70 or 80 kb plasmid with blaKPC-2, embedded within transposon variant Tn4401g. Whole genome sequencing and downstream bioinformatics analyses of all plasmid sequences showed an almost perfect match when compared to a blaKPC-2-carrying plasmid of a large outbreak in another German hospital two years earlier. Differences in plasmid sizes and open reading frames point to the presence of inserted mobile genetic elements. There are few outbreak reports worldwide on the transmission of blaKPC-2-carrying plasmids across different bacterial genera. Our data suggest a regional and supraregional spread of blaKPC-2-carrying IncN-plasmids harboring the Tn4401g isoform in Germany.</p

Применение импульсного питания для сварки магистральных трубопроводов

    Get PDF
An analysis was made of the stress-strain states of models of the main pipeline, with a welded seam made with cutting edges at sixty degrees by welding in CO2 and with a welded weld made using pulsed power in a CO2 medium with slotted cutting edges. Also, some parameters for creating welded joints were calculated

A Cellular Automaton Framework for Infectious Disease Spread Simulation

    Get PDF
In this paper, a cellular automaton framework for processing the spatiotemporal spread of infectious diseases is presented. The developed environment simulates and visualizes how infectious diseases might spread, and hence provides a powerful instrument for health care organizations to generate disease prevention and contingency plans. In this study, the outbreak of an avian flu like virus was modeled in the state of Tyrol, and various scenarios such as quarantine, effect of different medications on viral spread and changes of social behavior were simulated
