We present an extensive, large-scale, long-term and multitaxon database on phenological and climatic variation, involving 506,186 observation dates acquired in 471 localities in Russian Federation, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan. The data cover the period 1890-2018, with 96% of the data being from 1960 onwards. The database is rich in plants, birds and climatic events, but also includes insects, amphibians, reptiles and fungi. The database includes multiple events per species, such as the onset days of leaf unfolding and leaf fall for plants, and the days for first spring and last autumn occurrences for birds. The data were acquired using standardized methods by permanent staff of national parks and nature reserves (87% of the data) and members of a phenological observation network (13% of the data). The database is valuable for exploring how species respond in their phenology to climate change. Large-scale analyses of spatial variation in phenological response can help to better predict the consequences of species and community responses to climate change.Peer reviewe

Esophageal cancer is one of the most aggressive malignant neoplasms, with low survival rates and limited treatment options. In this study we analyzed the microbiome composition and the phenotype of inflammatory tumor infiltrate in squamous cell carcinoma of esophagus (ESCC) and examined possible relationships between them and their prognostic significance. We found that the predominant phyla of microorganisms found in both tumors and adjacent normal tissues were Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Gemmatimonadetes and Bacteroidetes. We established that only bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus differ between tumors and normal tissues. We found a significant correlation between bacterial burden and the phenotype of the tumor stroma. Namely, a group of tumors characterized by a high expression of CD206 (r = −0.3976, p = 0.0056) in the stroma and iNOS (r = −0.2953, p = 0.0439) in tumor cells is characterized by a higher bacterial burden. Further, we established that in the group with a high content of CD206+ macrophages, there is also a predominance of gram-positive bacteria over gram-negative ones. We found that gram-positive bacterial burden is associated with disease prognosis in ESCC showing high content of CD206+ macrophages. In conclusion we established that the tumor microbiome, can be prognostically significant for ESCC when combined with other stromal markers

Lung Microbiome Differentially Impacts Survival of Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Depending on Tumor Stroma Phenotype

The link between a lung tumor and the lung microbiome is a largely unexplored issue. To investigate the relationship between a lung microbiome and the phenotype of an inflammatory stromal infiltrate, we studied a cohort of 89 patients with non-small cell lung cancer. The microbiome was analyzed in tumor and adjacent normal tissue by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. Characterization of the tumor stroma was done using immunohistochemistry. We demonstrated that the bacterial load was higher in adjacent normal tissue than in a tumor (p = 0.0325) with similar patterns of taxonomic structure and alpha diversity. Lung adenocarcinomas did not differ in their alpha diversity from squamous cell carcinomas, although the content of Gram-positive bacteria increased significantly in the adenocarcinoma group (p = 0.0419). An analysis of an inflammatory infiltrate of tumor stroma showed a correlation of CD68, iNOS and FOXP3 with a histological type of tumor. For the first time we showed that high bacterial load in the tumor combined with increased iNOS expression is a favorable prognostic factor (HR = 0.1824; p = 0.0123), while high bacterial load combined with the increased number of FOXP3+ cells is a marker of poor prognosis (HR = 4.651; p = 0.0116). Thus, we established that bacterial load of the tumor has an opposite prognostic value depending on the status of local antitumor immunity

Time-Delayed Anticancer Effect of an Extremely Low Frequency Alternating Magnetic Field and Multimodal Protein–Tannin–Mitoxantrone Carriers with Brillouin Microspectroscopy Visualization In Vitro

The effect of an extremely low frequency alternating magnetic field (ELF AMF) at frequencies of 17, 48, and 95 Hz at 100 mT on free and internalized 4T1 breast cancer cell submicron magnetic mineral carriers with an anticancer drug, mitoxantrone, was shown. The alternating magnetic field (100 mT; 17, 48, 95 Hz; time of treatment—10.5 min with a 30 s delay) does not lead to the significant destruction of carrier shells and release of mitoxantrone or bovine serum albumin from them according to the data of spectrophotometry, or the heating of carriers in the process of exposure to magnetic fields. The most optimal set of factors that would lead to the suppression of proliferation and survival of cells with anticancer drug carriers on the third day (in comparison with the control and first day) is exposure to an alternating magnetic field of 100 mT in a pulsed mode with a frequency of 95 Hz. The presence of magnetic nanocarriers in cell lines was carried out by a direct label-free method, space-resolved Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectrometry, which was realized for the first time. The analysis of the series of integrated BLS spectra showed an increase in the magnetic phase in cells with a growth in the number of particles per cell (from 10 to 100) after their internalization. The safety of magnetic carriers in the release of their constituent ions has been evaluated using atomic absorption spectrometry

    Observation of excited Ωc0\Omega_c^0 baryons in ΩbΞc+Kπ\Omega_b^- \to \Xi_c^+ K^-\pi^-decays

International audienceThe first observation of the Ωb-→Ξc+K-π- decay is reported using p p collision data at center of mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb-1. Four excited Ωc0 baryons are observed in the Ξc+ K- mass projection of the Ωb-→Ξc+K-π- decays with the significance of each exceeding five standard deviations. They coincide with the states previously observed in prompt pp and e+e- production. Relative production rates, masses, and natural widths of the states are measured, and a test of spin hypotheses is performed. Moreover, the branching ratio of Ωb-→Ξc+K-π- is measured relative to the Ωb-→Ωc0π- decay mode and a precise measurement of the Ωb- mass of 6044.3±1.2±1.1-0.22+0.19  MeV is obtained

International audienceThe W boson mass is measured using proton-proton collision data at s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb1^{−1} recorded during 2016 by the LHCb experiment. With a simultaneous fit of the muon q/pT_{T} distribution of a sample of W → μν decays and the ϕ^{*} distribution of a sample of Z → μμ decays the W boson mass is determined to bemw=80354±23stat±10exp±17theory±9PDFMeV, {m}_w=80354\pm {23}_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm {10}_{\mathrm{exp}}\pm {17}_{\mathrm{theory}}\pm {9}_{\mathrm{PDF}}\mathrm{MeV}, where uncertainties correspond to contributions from statistical, experimental systematic, theoretical and parton distribution function sources. This is an average of results based on three recent global parton distribution function sets. The measurement agrees well with the prediction of the global electroweak fit and with previous measurements.[graphic not available: see fulltext
