Education for sustainable development - (not) a topic for libraries?! Libraries as stakeholders and partners in education for sustainable development

In bildungspolitischen Papieren zur Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung werden Bibliotheken nicht explizit in ihrer hier bereits aktiven Rolle gesehen. Häufig wird ihnen lediglich die Bewahrung des kulturellen Erbes zugeschrieben. Zahlreiche Beispiele zeigen aber, dass sie in der Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung schon längst aktiv sind und als kommunale und für alle zugängliche Bildungseinrichtungen auch viele Menschen erreichen können. Immer mehr Bibliotheken verstehen sich als "Grüne Bibliothek" (auch "green library" oder "sustainable library"). Das bedeutet, sie berücksichtigen ökologische, ökonomische und soziale Nachhaltigkeit und haben eine klare Nachhaltigkeitsagenda in Bezug auf Gebäude und Ausstattung, Green-Office-Prinzipien, Bibliotheksdienstleistungen, soziale Themen und Umweltfragen. Sie wollen ihren eigenen ökologischen Fußabdruck minimieren und zugleich überzeugende Vorbilder nachhaltigen Handelns sein. Beispiele, wie dies gelingen kann, gibt es viele. Die Autorin führt neben einschlägigen Informationsveranstaltungen unter anderem Urban-Gardening-Projekte, Food-Saver-Aktionen, Repair-Cafés, eine Saatgut-Bibliothek, die Bibliothek der Dinge und Ideen-Cafés zu Nachhaltigkeitsthemen an. Often the only credit they get is for preserving cultural heritage. However, numerous examples show that they have long been active in education for sustainable development and also can reach many people as local educational institutions that are accessible to everyone. More and more libraries see themselves as a "green library" (or "sustainable library"). This means that they take into consideration ecological, economic and social sustainability and have a clear sustainability agenda with regard to buildings and equipment, green office principles, library services, social topics and environmental issues. They want to reduce their own ecological footprint and at the same time be convincing role models of sustainable action. There are many examples of how this can be achieved. Zöld írástudás. Szakmai készségek, kompetenciák és célok a zöld könyvtár menedzseléséhez. Szempontok a magyar kollégák számára

A könyvtárak nem vákuumban léteznek, hanem aktív szerepet játszanak a társadalomban. Amióta beköszöntött a zöld könyvtári mozgalom, a könyvtárak elkötelezettsége a fenntarthatóság iránt egyre inkább láthatóvá vált. A könyvtárak pozitív képüket arra használhatják fel, hogy példát mutassanak különböző szolgáltatási stratégiáikkal. Az információs jártasság tanítása terén a könyvtárak már igen sok feladatot vállaltak. Azonban fontos információszolgáltatókként ennél jóval többel kell foglalkozniuk, feladatuk lett a zöld írástudás tanítása is, a drámai klímaváltozásra és a növekvő ökológiai tudatosságra reagálva. A kérdés a következő: Hogyan kellene a magyar könyvtárosokat megfelelően megtanítani a zöld írástudásra? Kataloganreicherung ?!

Der Nachweis wissenschaftlicher Open Access-Publikationen in Bibliothekskatalogen im Sinne der Kataloganreicherung stellt Bibliotheken vor zahlreiche Fragen. Am Beispiel von hybriden Publikationen (parallele Druck- und frei verfügbare elektronische Ausgabe) wird gezeigt, wie Bibliotheken gegenwärtig damit umgehen. Bisher gibt es keine einheitliche Richtlinie und so verfährt jede Bibliothek bzw. jeder Verbund anders. Because of the lack of any uniform policy libraries deal with these differently. The use of urinary proteomics in the assessment of suitability of mouse models for ageing

Ageing is a complex process characterised by a systemic and progressive deterioration of biological functions. As ageing is associated with an increased prevalence of age-related chronic disorders, understanding its underlying molecular mechanisms can pave the way for therapeutic interventions and managing complications. Animal models such as mice are commonly used in ageing research as they have a shorter lifespan in comparison to humans and are also genetically close to humans. To assess the translatability of mouse ageing to human ageing, the urinary proteome in 89 wild-type (C57BL/6) mice aged between 8–96 weeks was investigated using capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry (CE-MS). Using age as a continuous variable, 295 peptides significantly correlated with age in mice were identified. To investigate the relevance of using mouse models in human ageing studies, a comparison was performed with a previous correlation analysis using 1227 healthy subjects. In mice and humans, a decrease in urinary excretion of fibrillar collagens and an increase of uromodulin fragments was observed with advanced age. Of the 295 peptides correlating with age, 49 had a strong homology to the respective human age-related peptides. These ortholog peptides including several collagen (N = 44) and uromodulin (N = 5) fragments were used to generate an ageing classifier that was able to discriminate the age among both wild-type mice and healthy subjects. Additionally, the ageing classifier depicted that telomerase knock-out mice were older than their chronological age.
