Bernard Adams : Egy brit műfordító a magyar hitvalló irodalom világában

Bernard Adams (born in 1937) has lived for a long time now in Zánka and has a double – English-Hungarian – citizenship. At the age of 55, he gave up his leading teacher position in one of the historical grammar schools in London, and from that time on, he became an ardent “ferryboat-man” between the Hungarian and the English culture. Adams is a widely recognised and awarded translator of our greatest classical and modern writers, but his greatest and noblest effort is the excellent and philologically impeccable translation of the most important authors of the Hungarian Calvinist literature. He started his translating activity with his personal favourite, Márton Szepsi Csombor’s Europica Varietas, which was followed by masterpieces like the Autobiography of Miklós and Kata Bethlen, the Letters of Kelemen Mikes. The culmination of his cultural mission is the translation of some of our most important Reformed Confessions. In this presentation one of his lyrical bravados, the English version of Zoltán Jékely’s In the church of Marosszentimre will also be analysed. The somehow unusual, but necessary part of this paper is a short “built in” interview with a collegial friend of the author, in order to bring him closer to the theologians of the Hungarian Reformed Church

Egy apaszívű lelkész a 17. század végén : avagy hogyan emlékezett a nevelt és az édes fiú Czeglédi Istvánra?

The Reformed pastor István Czeglédi (1620?-1671) was the inheritor of Péter Alvinczi in the congregation of Kassa and concerning the spiritual traditions he was the heir of Pál Medgyesi. He was not only a combative theologist, but the author of several polemical writings and the organiser of a congregation as well. Beside the self-sacrificing work for the community he was an outstanding father, too. His own son, together with his foster-son paid tribute to him by publishing his most significant work posthumously. This volume may be considered as a remarkable one as it contains the detailed biography of Czeglédi along with a bunch of funeral and laudatory verses. Our intention is to compare the farewell speeches put in verse by the deceased notability's sons, the ones by Pál Czeglédi and by Sámuel Köleséri Snr, also analysing the family relationships and Czeglédi's paternal role. In the second part of this study we are examining the Czeglédi biography written by Köleséri paying special attention to its extraordinary details. Through analysing the texts destined to cherish the memories of Czeglédi we are trying to throw light upon those moments of his life which made the career of the famous pastor of Kassa an example worth following

Szenci Molnár kutatások - adattár, szerzői bibliográfia, egyes műveinek új kiadása = Research concerning the ouvre of Albert Szenci Molnar - bibliography of his own works and works on him, editions of his works

A kutatás első évében (2002) megkezdődött egy adattár és kézikönyvtár kialakítása, amelynek bővítése folyamatos. A pályázat keretében a témavezető időszakos kiállítást rendezett Szenci Molnár Albertről a Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeumban. A második évben digitális másolat készült a "Consecratio templi novi" című Szenci Molnár műről, s elindultak a jubileumi szótárkonferencia előkészületei. A harmadik évben megjelent az "Értekezés a legfőbb jóról" hasonmás kiadása, digitális másolat készült a "Postilla Scultetica"-ról, illetve megrendeztük a konferenciánkat a Szótár megjelenésének 400 évfordulójára, az OSZK-val közösen. A negyedik évben megindult a konferencia kötetének szerkesztése, s összeállt a Szenci Molnár-bibliográfia anyaga. | During the first year of the project we began to create a data store and a reference library concerning Szenci Molnár's ouvre; it is a continous work. Within the framework of our OTKA the person in charge of the research team arranged a Szenci Molnár exhibition in the Petőfi Literary Museum. During the second year of the project a digital copy was made of Szenci Molnár's 'Consecratio' and the jubilee conference dedicated to his Latin-Hungarian Dictionary was also prepared. During the third year the facsimile edition 'Discursus de summo bono' was published, a digital copy of the 'Postilla Scultetica' was also made ready and we celebrated the 400th anniversary of the 'Dictionary' with a conference, with the Széchényi National Library. During the 4th year we began to edit the conference volume and the material of a Szenci Molnár bibliography was also completed

Szenci Molnár Albert levelezése, iratai és Zsoltárkönyve = Correspondence, documents and psalter of Albert Molnár

A kutatás során közel került a befejezéshez Szenci Molnár Albert (1574-1634) levelezésének új kritikai kiadása. Beszereztük a levelek másolatát, majd elkészültek a levélszövegek, s a kommentároknak az a része, amely a korabeli európai (elsősorban németországi) viszonyokra vonatkozik. Ennek elvégzéséhez két alkalommal külföldi ösztöndíjon volt a kutatás vezetője, Szabó András és Petrőczi Éva. 2008 júliusában Wolfenbüttelben az MTA Irodalomtudományi Intézetének csereösztöndíjával, 2009 júliusában és 2010 januárjában pedig Heidelbergben a DAAD ösztöndíjával. 2007 május 24. és 27. között a két megnevezett kutató egy nemzetközi régi magyar irodalmi konferenciát rendezett Csurgón (ezen Bódiss Tamás és P. Vásárhelyi Judit is részt vett), "A zsoltár a régi magyar irodalomban" címmel. A konferencia anyagát megszerkesztettük, kiadására egyedül pénz hiányában nem került idáig sor. Szabó Andrásnak a kutatás és az előző OTKA pályázat során megjelentetett tanulmányai felhasználásával elérhető közelségbe került egy Szenci Molnár Albertről szóló monográfia megjelentetése is. | Due to our intensive research work the new critical edition of the correspondence of Albert Szenci Molnár (1574-1634) is well-prepared. We got the copies of the missing letters, the majority of the texts themselves (and their commentaries, first of all those which are referring to German settlements and characters) had already been edited, the Latin ones translated etc. The leader of the study-group got two bursaries to Germany: one to the Herzog August Bibliothek, Wofenbüttel, together with co-worker Éva Petrőczi in July 2008, with the exchange-grant of the Institute of Literary Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and another one, July 2009 and January 2010, to Heidelberg, through the DAAD. The above mentioned two scholars organized an international psaltery conference in Csurgó (24th-27th May, 2007), entitled "The Psalm in Old Hungarian Literature" with the active contribution of Judith P. Vásárhelyi and Tamás Bódiss. The written material of the conference had already been prepared and edited, only the lack of money caused some delay in its being printed. Finally, the publishing of a monograph by András Szabó, written on Albert Szenci Molnár, is also a fruit and a nearing reality of all these studies abroad and also of the two OTKA-periods dedicated to this topic
