    Antimicrobial stewardship is widely accepted as an efficient strategy to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. Education is one of the cornerstones of successful antimicrobial stewardship programs. There is also general agreement that antimicrobial stewardship is a team effort that must involve the whole continuum of healthcare workers. Providing adequate education for all different professionals although challenging is deemed crucial to achieve good results. This paper reviews the different strategies available to educate the multiple healthcare workers, discusses how education can improve antimicrobial stewardship programs and outlines some of the challenges faced and research gaps that need to be addressed in order to improve education in this field

    Factors associated with the implementation of programs for drug abuse prevention in schools

    OBJECTIVE: To analyze if characteristics of managers, schools, and curriculum are associated with the implementation of programs for drug abuse prevention in elementary and high schools. METHODS: Cross-sectional study, with random sample of 263 school managers. Data were collected between 2012 and 2013 by a program that sends forms via internet. A closed self-filling questionnaire was applied online. Statistical analysis included Chi-square tests and logistic regression models. The outcome variable was the presence of program for drug abuse prevention inserted in the daily life and educational program of the school. The explanatory variables were divided into: demographic data of the manager characteristics of the school and of the curriculum health education and drug use in the school. RESULTS: We found that 42.5% (95% CI 36.1-49.1) of the evaluated schools had programs for drug abuse prevention. With the multiple logistic regression model, we observed that the more time the manager has worked with education, the chance of the school having a program increased at about 4.0%. Experimenting with innovative teaching techniques also increased at about six times the chance of the school developing a program for drug abuse prevention. The difficulties in the implementation of the programs were more present in state and municipal schools, when compared with private schools, due to, for instance: lack of teaching materials, lack of money, and competing demands for teaching other subjects. CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of programs for drug abuse prevention in the city of Sao Paulo is associated with the experience of the manager in education and with the teaching strategies of the school.OBJETIVO: Analisar se características dos dirigentes, das escolas e do currículo escolar estão associadas à implantação de programas de prevenção ao uso de drogas nas escolas do ciclo fundamental II e médio. A análise estatística incluiu testes Qui-quadrado e modelos de regressão logística. A variável desfecho foi a presença de programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas inserido no cotidiano e no programa pedagógico da escola. As variáveis explicativas foram divididas em: dados demográficos do dirigente; características da escola e do currículo; educação em saúde; e consumo de drogas na escola. RESULTADOS: Constatou-se que 42,5% (IC95% 36,1–49,1) das escolas avaliadas possuíam programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas. Com o modelo de regressão logística múltipla, observou-se que, a cada ano de atuação do dirigente na educação, a chance de a escola ter um programa aumentava em aproximadamente 4,0%. O fato de experimentar técnicas de ensino inovadoras também aumentou em cerca de seis vezes a chance de a escola desenvolver um programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas. As dificuldades na implantação dos programas foram mais presentes nas redes estadual e municipal, quando comparadas à rede privada, destacando-se: a falta de material didático, a falta de dinheiro e as demandas concorrentes para ensino de outras disciplinas.     Exact soliton solutions of the one-dimensional complex Swift-Hohenberg equation

    Using Painlev\'e analysis, the Hirota multi-linear method and a direct ansatz technique, we study analytic solutions of the (1+1)-dimensional complex cubic and quintic Swift-Hohenberg equations. We consider both standard and generalized versions of these equations. We have found that a number of exact solutions exist to each of these equations, provided that the coefficients are constrained by certain relations. The set of solutions include particular types of solitary wave solutions, hole (dark soliton) solutions and periodic solutions in terms of elliptic Jacobi functions and the Weierstrass ℘\wp function. Although these solutions represent only a small subset of the large variety of possible solutions admitted by the complex cubic and quintic Swift-Hohenberg equations, those presented here are the first examples of exact analytic solutions found thus far.Comment: 32 pages, no figures, elsart.cl

    Glucose uptake is an important phenomenon for cell homeostasis and for organism health. Under resting conditions, skeletal muscle is dependent on insulin to promote glucose uptake.Insulin, after binding to its membrane receptor, triggers a cascade of intracellular reactions culminating in activation of the glucose transporter 4, GLUT4, among other outcomes.This transporter migrates to the plasma membrane and assists in glucose internalization.However, under special conditions such as physical exercise, alterations in the levels of intracellular molecules such as ATP and calcium actto regulate GLUT4 translocation and glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, regardless of insulinlevels.Regular physical exercise, due to stimulating pathways related to glucose uptake, is an important non-pharmacological intervention for improving glycemic control in obese and diabetic patients.     Crude Oil Desalting Process

    Desalting is a water-washing operation performed initially at the production field and thereafter at the refinery site for additional crude oil cleanup. Salt and water content specifications are even more rigid because of their negative effect in downstream processes due to corrosion, and catalyst deactivation. An optimum formulation concept is presented to describe emulsion breaking in desalting process. In the stabilization mechanism is accepted that water droplets are stabilized by the formation of a mechanically strong and viscoelastic film at the interface composed of asphaltenes. In the case of water-in-crude-oil emulsions, a balanced optimum formulation is attained by adding to the lipophilic natural surfactants contained in the crude oil, demulsifiers which are hydrophilic. The aim is to relate the nature and concentration of the added demulsifier products to the amphiphilic mixture at the interface. All formulation parameters, such as solvent, alcohols, kind and concentration of demulsifier, amoung others, can be explained for proportional and saturation regimens

    Degradación acelerada de morteros en medios agresivos artificiales de origen agropecuario

    El presente trabajo pretende profundizar en el conocimiento de los mecanismos de degradación que se producen en la microestructura de la fase sólida de materiales empleados en la construcción de estructuras para uso agropecuario. El estudio se ha desarrollado con probetas de mortero de cemento CEM IV/B-V 32,5N sometidas a ensayos de degradación acelerada en medios agresivos artificiales. Las probetas se han sumergido en diferentes disoluciones, que contienen ácidos orgánicos con distinto pH. Las muestras se han caracterizado antes, durante y después del ensayo desde el punto de vista mecánico y microestructural. Los resultados obtenidos nos permiten identificar la agresividad que se desarrollaba en cada uno de los procesos de degradación en función del pH del medio y la composición del mismo, todo ello a fin de poder establecer el comportamiento en servicio del material

    Motor controllers, such as the ones used in signalling systems, include critical embedded software. Alstom is a company that produces such embedded systems, which must follow complex certification processes that require formal modelling and analysis. The formal analysis of these real-time systems have to balance between including enough details to be useful and abstracting away enough details to be verifiable. This paper describes our work in the context of the European VALU3S project to integrate the analysis of such systems with the Uppaal model checker during the development cycle, involving both developers from Alstom and academic partners. We use special Excel tables to configure the underlying Uppaal models and requirements, bridging these two stakeholders. We follow Software Product Line Engineering principles, e.g., allowing features to be turned on and off and periodicities to be changed, and verify different properties for each of such configuration.
