An Electronic Dictionary of Collocations for European Portuguese: Methodology, Results and Applications
This paper discusses a lexicographic approach to collocations, presenting the methodology, options, results andapplications of an electronic Dictionary of Portuguese Collocations (DCP). The methodology underlying thedictionary involves the extraction from a corpus of contemporary Portuguese of lexical associations of pairs ofword forms, contiguous or not. The significance of the pairs is statistically measured by the Mutual Information(MI) calculus, as well as by the MI weighted by the frequency of the pair (MIF). Other issues are discussed:frequency of the word forms vs. frequency of the lemmas, the organization of the collocations in the dictionary, grammatical patterns as source of lexical information, as well as the splitting of collocations into sense-groups.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Unfavorable school climate is a source of vulnerability for the integration and security of

documents the activity and main results of the User Friendliness Charter School Project, an
intervention/research project overseen by the Regional Secretariat of Education and Human
Resources, Autonomous Region of Madeira, Portugal and supervised by the Research Centre for
Child Studies, University of Minho. The main objective of this project is to contribute to a safe,
inclusive and respectful school environment, enhancer of learning and favoring school success.
We use focus groups and qualitative interview to key members of the educational community.
We found that there is not a set of policies and strategies in a single format to resolve conflicts
and violence in all schools. It is necessary to identify and test the most appropriate measures to
the specific needs, culture (ethos), the socio-cultural involvement and the management model.
The changes require the commitment of the educational community. The evaluation of the
results allows us to adjust and improve intervention, replace or adapt strategiesEl clima escolar desfavorable es una fuente de vulnerabilidad para la integración y la

Providing on-line access to Portuguese language resources: corpora and lexicons
Several Language Resources (LRs) for Portuguese, developed at the Center of Linguistics of the Lisbon University (CLUL), are available on-line at CLUL’s webpage: www.clul.ul.pt/english/sectores/projecto_rld.html. These LRs have been extracted from or developed based on the Reference Corpus of Contemporary Portuguese(CRPC1), a monitor corpus containing, at the present, more than 350 million words, taken by sampling from several types of written text (literary, newspaper, technical, didactic, juridical, parlamentary, etc.) and spoken text (informal and formal), pertaining to national and regional varieties of Portuguese (including European, Brazilian, African and Asian Portuguese). The LRs available for on-line queries include: a) several subcorpora (written and spoken, tagged and untagged) compiled and extracted from CRPC for specific CLUL’s projects and now available for on-line queries; b) a published sample of “Português Fundamental”, a spoken CRPC subcorpus, available for texts download; c) a frequency lexicon extracted from a CRPC subcorpus available for both on-line queries and download. Other RLs available for Portugueseare also referred: C-ORAL-ROM - Integrated Reference Corpora for Spoken Romance Languages, a CD-ROM edition of a spoken corpus with text-to-sound alignment; the LE-PAROLE corpus; the LE-PAROLE Lexicon and the SIMPLE Lexicon.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Complex Predicates annotation in a corpus of Portuguese
We present an annotation scheme for the annotation of complex predicates, understood as constructions with more than one lexical unit, each contributing part of the information normally associated with a single predicate. We discuss our annotation guidelines of four types of complex predicates, and the treatment of several difficult cases, related to ambiguity, overlap and coordination. We then discuss the process of marking up the Portuguese CINTIL corpus of 1M tokens (written and spoken) with a new layer of information regarding complex predicates. We also present the outcomes of the annotation work and statistics on the types of CPs that we found in the corpus.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A associação entre os escores médios da EN com as categorias da EDV foi significativa, apontando validade convergente e métrica semelhante entre as escalas.CONCLUSÃOA mensuração da dor em idosos institucionalizados pode ser feita por meio da EN e da EDV, no entanto, a escala preferida pelos idosos foi a EDV, independentemente do sexo.OBJECTIVECorrelating two unidimensional scales for measurement of self-reported pain intensity for elderly and identifying a preference for one of the scales.METHODA study conducted with 101 elderly people living in Nursing Home who reported any pain and reached ( 13 the scores on the Mini-Mental State Examination. A Numeric Rating Scale - (NRS) of 11 points and a Verbal Descriptor Scale (VDS) of five points were compared in three evaluations: overall, at rest and during movement.RESULTSWomen were more representative (61.4%) and the average age was 77.0±9.1 years. NRS was completed by 94.8% of the elderly while VDS by 100%. The association between the mean scores of NRS with the categories of VDS was significant, indicating convergent validity and a similar metric between the scales.CONCLUSIONPain measurements among institutionalized elderly can be made by NRS and VDS; however, the preferred scale for the elderly was the VDS, regardless of gender.OBJETIVOCorrelacionar dos escalas unidimensionales de mensuración de la intensidad del dolor autorreferido por ancianos e identificar la preferencia por una de las escalas.MÉTODOEstudio conducido con 101 ancianos residentes en Instituciones de Larga Estancia para Ancianos que relataron algún tipo de dolor y alcanzaron puntajes 13 en la Mini Prueba del Estado Mental.
PIGMENTARY UVEITIS ASSOCIATED WITH IRIDOCILIARY CYSTS IN AMERICAN BULLDOGS
Presence of iridociliary cysts may cause a specific form of uveitis not associated with any known systemic disease or underlying cause. The condition was previously characterized in golden retrievers. However, Labrador retrievers, Great Danes and Boston terriers are reported to develop a similar disease condition. The following report documents seven cases of iridociliary cysts, with or without associated pigmentary uveitis, in American bulldogs from Brazil and Spain. Although not an uncommon disease, this syndrome has been relatively infrequently documented in the literature, with only one study in the American bulldog. This article describes clinical findings as well as medical and surgical management of each case. Because some of the patients were closely related in this series, a possible hereditary basis is considered for pigmentary uveitis associated with iridociliary cysts in American bulldogs
