http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/198050989298This study evaluated the result of different methodologies in determining the use and occupancy of land using digital aerial photographs with spatial resolution of 1m (scenario 01) and satellite imagery with a spatial resolution of 0.5 m ( scenario 02), photo-interpreted screen, on a scale of 1:2.000 mapping, watershed ‘Horizonte’ stream, in Alegre, ES state. We used the global performance indices and Kappa index for determining the average error between the sets and t test at 5% probability to assess the degree of significance in the process of image interpretation between scenarios 01 and 02. We identified 27 classes of land use for scenarios 01 and 02. The classes of pasture (599.62 and 442.43 ha) and forest fragmentation (319.45 and 258.07 ha) respectively, occupying the largest areas in the two scenarios, composing 69.80% for scenario 01 and 53.04% for scenario 02 of the total area. There was a positive variation of 6.67% in the DG scenario in scenarios 01 and 02. However, the K shows that the scenario 02 has a lower rate of errors of omission and commission of 2.09%, but does not present significance by the statistical analysis presented at 5% level by t test.http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/198050989298Este estudo objetivou avaliar o uso de diferentes metodologias na determinação do uso e ocupação da terra utilizando aerofotos digitais, com resolução espacial de 1 m (cenário 01) e imagens de satélite, com resolução espacial de 0,5 m (cenário 02), fotointerpretadas em tela, na escala cartográfica de 1:2.000, da bacia hidrográfica do córrego Horizonte, Alegre-ES. Caracterização quali-quantitativa da matéria orgânica do solo
Quantitative evaluations of soil organic matter isolately are not enough for satisfying the cientific
investigation expectatives with respect to its characteristics and properties with aim at the soil sustainability, under
several forms of management. A complete approach requires methodologies capable of considering the relationship
between the organic matter accumulation and its physical location in the soil matrix, as well as the characterization of
its fractions. This paper aims to present an approach of methodologies employed in characterizations of soil organic
matter and discuss issues related to its compartmentalization and the implications on the sustainability of agricultural
soils.

Frohner) e café arábica (Coffea arabica L.) cultivados no Território Rural do Caparaó Capixaba. As restrições corresponderam apenas quanto à temperatura: espécie conilon (60,00%) e arábica (25,64%).Pages: 555-56
ANALYSIS OF SPACE-TIME DYNAMICS OF FOREST FRAGMENTS IN THE ALEGRE RIVER SUBWATERSHED, BRAZIL
Knowing the history of forest fragmentation in watersheds helps plan and\ud
implement practices based on restoration of degraded forest areas. Structural analysis\ud
of forest fragments in the Alegre River subwatershed, State of Espírito Santo, was based\ud
on landscape metrics using ArcGIS 10 software with Patch Analyst extension, regarding\ud
changes during 1975, 2002, and 2007. Analysis showed an increase of about 7% in the\ud
total area of forest cover and emergence of 645 new forest fragments. Numerous patches\ud
and a small drainage area resulted in a high perimeter-to-area ratio. Simple geometric\ud
shapes predominated in smaller patches (< 1 ha). Larger patches (> 20 ha) were close\ud
to each other, with a tendency to decrease proximity metric values. The results show\ud
that despite increase in vegetated area, the environmental quality of forest remnants is\ud
highly jeopardized
Proposal of ecological corridors for interconection of State Parks by using geotecnology, Espírito Santo (ES)-Brazil
‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’ y ‘F’.

for the deployment of the EC, called the corridors ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’ and ‘F’. After analyzing
the images of Permanent Preservation Area (APP), land use and cover, slope and Land use
conflicts in the APP, the corridor was designated “A”, with 15,144.76 in length, width and 2099.57 - 1514.48 ha, as the best proposal to implement the corridor. An important factor in
choosing the corridor ‘A’ is that there are large areas of vegetation and regeneration of the
area. It has the largest area of “APP” preserved and it has a great potential for tourism and
agriculture
Application of Path Analysis and Remote Sensing to Assess the Interrelationships between Meteorological Variables and Vegetation Indices in the State of Espírito Santo, Southeastern Brazil
Utilizing path analysis, we examined the interconnectedness among six meteorological variables. Among these, three pertain to energy conditions—air temperature, net solar radiation, and reference evapotranspiration (ET0)—while the others are associated with hydrological conditions: precipitation, relative humidity, and water deficiency. These variables were assessed across five distinct temporal delay levels to understand their influences on the normalized difference vegetation Index (NDVI) and enhanced vegetation index (EVI) within grassland areas situated in the state of Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil. The images underwent processing using analytical algorithms and a geographic information system (GIS). The direct and indirect impacts of these variables on the NDVI and EVI exhibited remarkable similarity across varying temporal delays and geographic regions. Meteorological variables explained over 50% of the observed variation in both indices, occasionally even reaching levels of 70%. Temperature and relative humidity primarily exerted direct effects on the indices. Conversely, precipitation exhibited indirect effects on the indices, often in conjunction with other hydrological variables. ET0 demonstrated a direct effect on the vegetation indices, particularly after a delay of 32 days. Solar radiation and water deficiency displayed direct effects up to the 32-day mark, implying that vegetation responds more promptly to these variables. The proposed methodology enabled a consistent and stable assessment of the direct and indirect effects of meteorological variables on vegetation indices
