Use IT or Lose IT? The Impact of Computers on Earnings

The extent to which the impact of computer skills depends on how computers are used is investigated using British data from an establishment survey, cohort studies and the European E-Living survey. We examine the importance of activity and frequency of use in these various data sources. We find that the impact on earnings depends on which cohort of workers is examined and that there are differences over time. The regression results show that the use of computers for internet access and for email is positively significant across all of our datasets, although there are differences in the size of the effects between men and women.ICT

Lastaan odottavan perheen voimavaralomakkeen pilotointi : Kalixin perhekeskuksen äitiysneuvolaan v.2013-2014

Tämän työelämälähtöisen kehittämisprojektin tarkoituksena oli pilotoida lastaan odottavan perheen voimavaralomake Kalixin perhekeskuksen äitiysneuvolan käyt-töön vuosina 2013-2014. Tavoitteena oli kehittää äitiysneuvolan toimintaa sekä saada uusi työväline varhaiseen puuttumiseen ja ennaltaehkäisevään hoitotyöhön äitiysneuvolassa. Työn teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä käsitellään neuvolan historiaa sekä äitiysneuvo-lan tavoitteita Suomessa ja Ruotsissa. Näiden lisäksi teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä käsitellään perhepalvelun toimintaa, perhekäsitettä, voimavaraisuutta sekä tärkeimpiä neuvolatyössä käytettäviä menetelmiä. Kehittämisprojektin valmistelu aloitettiin keväällä 2013. Lomakkeen pilotointi toteutettiin syksyn 2014 aikana. Asiakkaille annettiin lastaan odottavan perheen voimavaralomake kotona täytettäväksi 15.08.- 15.10.2014 välisenä aikana. Kehittämisprojekti päättyi marraskuussa 2014. Kehittämisprojektin tuotoksena lastaan odottavan perheen voimavaralomake pilotoitiin Kalixin perhekeskuksen äitiysneuvolassa. Kehittämisprojektin päätyttyä lastaan odottavan voimavaralomake jäi pysyväksi työvälineeksi Kalixin perhekeskuksen äitiysneuvolaan. Pilotoinnin tuloksena henkilökunnan kokemus oli, että lastaan odottavan perheen voimavaralomake voidaan ottaa käyttöön. Kehittämisprojektin onnistuttua tarkoituksena on, että koko Norrbottenin läänin äitiysneuvolat ottavat käyttöönsä lastaan odottavan perheen voimavaralomakkeen lähitulevaisuudessa. Jatkossa arvioidaan sitä, millä tavoin lastaan odottavan perheen voimavaralomakkeen käyttö on tehostanut äitiysneuvolan toimintaa, asiakaslähtöisyyttä sekä arvioidaan lomakkeen käyttöä myös asiakkaiden näkökulmasta.The purpose of this working life based development project was to pilot an everyday resources form for families expecting their child, The form was to be used by the maternity clinic in the Family Centre of Kalix in the years 2013 – 2014. The aim was to develop the activities of the maternity clinic and to achieve new working tools to be used in both early intervention and preventive patient care in maternity clinics. The theoretical framework in this study deals with the history and objectives of the maternity clinics in both Finland and Sweden. Along sides these, also the activities of the family services, the concept of family, the empowerment of resources and the more important methods used by maternity clinics are also dealt with in the theoretical framework. The development project commenced in the spring of 2013. The everyday resources –form for families expecting their child was taken into pilot use in the fall of 2014. During the time span of August 15 to - October 15, 2014, clients were given a resources form to be taken home and filled out. The development project was completed in November 2014. As an outcome of this development project, an everyday resources form for families expecting their child was piloted at the maternity clinic in the Family Centre of Kalix. After the development project had been completed, the everyday resources for families expecting their child –form became a permanent working tool at the maternity clinic in the Family Centre of Kalix. After piloting the resources form, the staff’s point of view was that the form could be taken into use. As a result of the success of this development project, the intention is to harness the use of the everyday resources form for families expecting their child in all of the maternity clinics in the county of Norrbotten in the near future. In the future it will then be evaluated how the use of the form has enhanced the functions in maternity clinics. In addition, customer-orientation and clients’ view to the use of the form will be assessed

Hoidon ja palvelujen laatu Rinnehovin palveluasumisyksiköissä Pertunmaalla : Kyselytutkimus asukkaiden omaisille

Opinnäytetyön aiheena on hoitotyön laatu omaisten arvioimana kolmessa Rinnehovin palveluasumisyksikössä. Työn toimeksiantaja on Pertunmaan kunta. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää hoidon ja palvelujen laatua omaisten näkökulmasta kolmessa palveluasumisyksikössä Honkalassa, Kissankulmassa ja Vaskikellossa. Opinnäytetyömme teoriaosuudessa käsittelemme palveluasumista ja hoidon laatua sekä mitä hyvä hoito on tutkimusten mukaan. Tutkimuksemme on kvantitatiivinen tutkimus, jonka otos oli 39 asukkaan omaista. Vastauksia palautui lopulta 20 kappaletta, joten vastausprosentti oli 51,3 %. Keräsimme tutkimusaineiston postitse Pertunmaan kunnan johtavan hoitajan Maija Loposen avustuksella. Aineisto kerättiin strukturoidulla haastattelulomakkeella, jonka olimme saaneet valmiina, mutta jota muutimme ennen kyselyn postittamista. Aineisto kerättiin alkuvuonna 2009. Tutkimustulokset analysoitiin SPSS – ohjelmalla ja avoimien kysymysten osalta sisällön erittelyllä. Tutkimustulokset esitetään prosentteina, kuvioina ja suorina lainauksina tekstissä. Tutkimuksestamme käy ilmi, että omaiset ovat pääosin tyytyväisiä Vaskikellossa ja Kissankulmassa tapahtuneisiin muutoksiin. Vain muutama omainen koki palvelujen ja hoidon joko pysyneen samana tai jopa huonontuneen. Koko tutkimusotosta tarkasteltaessa hoidon ja palvelujen laatu koettiin enimmäkseen hyvänä, sillä numeraaliseksi keskiarvoksi asteikolla 4-10 tuli 8,45. Tutkimuksessamme omaiset toivoivat vanhuksille lisää liikuntaa ja yhteisiä tuokioita. Tuloksista saadaan tietoa tämän hetkisestä hoidon ja palvelujen laadusta omaisen näkökulmasta tarkasteltuna. Tutkimustuloksia voidaan käyttää apuna yhteistyön ja toiminnan kehittämisessä. Muokkaamaamme kyselylomaketta voidaan käyttää apuna myöhemmin, mikäli tuloksia halutaan vertailla tulevaisuudessa.Subject of our thesis is quality of nursing in three service house unit in town of Pertunmaa. Our mandate is town of Pertunmaa. The purpose of our thesis was to find out the quality of nursing and services in those three service house unit which are Honkala, Kissankulma and Vaskikello, estimated by relatives. Our thesis theory part consists of service housing and quality of nursing and how good care is according to researches. Our study/research/report is quantitative which sample was 39 relative of inhabitant. Finally 20 answers came back, so response rate was 51, 3%. We collected research material by post and Maija Loponen (the head nurse of town of Pertunmaa) helped us. Material was collected by structured interview form which we get ready, but which we modify before posting the inquiry. Material was collected in early year 2009. Results of our research were analyzed by SPSS-program and the open questions by content differentiation. Results are presented by percent, diagrams and direct citations in text. It turns out in our research that relatives are mainly satisfied about changes happened in Vaskikello and Honkala. Only few relative felt that services and nursing either stayed as same or even get worse/degenerate. The quality of nursing and services were felt mostly good, as numeral average value from scale 4-10 became 8.45 when viewing the whole research. In our research relatives wished more exercise and common moments to the residents. Results give information of quality of nursing and services in relative’s point of view at the moment. Results of research can be used as help when developing co-operation and activity. Modified interview form can be used as help later if results are wanted to compare in future

Tutkimusetiikka ja hyvien tutkimuskäytäntöjen edistäminen Tampereen yliopistossa. Hankeraportti.

Tampereen yliopistossa v. 2005 toteutetun tutkimusetiikka ja hyvien tutkimuskäytäntöjen edistäminen Tampereen yliopistossa -hankkeen loppuraportissa keskitytään tarkastelemaan tutkimusetiikkaa ja hyviä tutkimuskäytäntöjä jatkokoulutuksen osalta. Raportin keskiössä ovat jatkokoulutuksen ohjaajien näkemykset, joita on kerätty haastattelemalla 12 jatkokoulutuksen ohjaajaa. Raportissa kuvataan tutkimusetiikkaa ilmiönä ja tuodaan esille keskustelun monitasoisuus, jota valottavat haastatteluissa esille tuodut tutkimusetiikan teemat. Keskeisinä teemoina ovat tutkimuksen vaikuttavuus, ohjauskysymykset sekä tutkijoiden keskinäinen suhde. The home experience of serving food for friends and family, and sharing food is a significant event in my life. Furnishings play a prominent role in this circumstance. For my thesis, I created works that enhance the conditions and ambiance of the residential dining and living experience. When sharing with friends, happiness is my primary objective. I love to create works containing peacefulness and coziness that could help people calm down and relax. For my thesis body of work, I incorporated gentle curvilinear lines and symmetric shapes to suggest peaceful and harmonious feelings. My material choice was wood as the primary material, along with other materials, selected for reasons of contemporary aesthetics and appropriate function. I took advantage of colors and textures coming naturally from the materials. To invite users to enjoy my work, I created smooth, continuous and tactile surfaces. Each piece of my design was based on the research into lifestyle and dining culture. Creating furniture and other objects that help bring people together through the ritual of the dining experience was my goal. My aesthetics is influenced profoundly by Scandinavian design because of my summer experience in Denmark, 2015. Seven weeks was not a long period in a lifetime, but it was long enough to get a sense to begin with. I started to know a new environment with a deep history of modern design, and refreshed my mind. I researched the Scandinavian influential designers, such as Alvar Aalto, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen, Bruno Mathsson, etc. I also researched furniture brands and designers world-wide to study what is timeless and what is happening currently, such as Michael Thonet, Charles and Ray Eames, and brands like Vitra, Carl Hansen & Søn, Design Within Reach, Normann Copenhagen, and Menu. My sources also included leading design and lifestyle magazines about travel, food, design and culture, such as Monocle, Wallpaper, Cereal Magazine, Elle Decor, Rum Interior Magazine, and Gentle Woman

Parental Education on the Haikaranpesä Maternity Ward : The Quality of the services from the Client's Point of View

Tämän Näyttöön perustuva kätilötyö -hankkeeseen liittyvän opinnäytetyön tarkoitus on selvittää Kätilöopiston sairaalan Haikaranpesä-osaston perhevalmennuksen laatua asiakkaan näkökulmasta. Opinnäytetyön tuloksia on tarkoitus käyttää jatkossa osaston perhevalmennuksen kehittämisessä. Yksityiskohtaisina tehtävinä on selvittää, miten asiakkaat arvioivat seuraavia laadun ulottuvuuksia. 1. Perhevalmennuksen saatavuus ja saavutettavuus 2. Vuorovaikutus ja asiakkaan kohtelu perhevalmennuksessa 3. Perhevalmennuksen luotettavuus ja uskottavuus 4. Perhevalmennuksen vaikuttavuus Opinnäytetyö on laadullinen tutkimus, jonka aineisto kerättiin teemahaastattelulla. Opinnäytetyön tehtävät toimivat haastattelun teemoina. Haastattelut suoritettiin helmikuun 2007 aikana kolmelle Haikaranpesän asiakkaana olleelle esikoisen saaneelle vanhemmalle. Aineisto analysoitiin sisällön analyysillä, jonka tuloksena muodostui käsitejärjestelmä Haikaranpesän valmennuksen laatuun vaikuttavista tekijöistä asiakkaiden näkökulmasta. Valmennuksen laatuun vaikuttivat tiedottamista koskevat tekijät, valmennuksen ajankohtaan, aikatauluun ja aikataulujen pitävyyteen sekä valmennusympäristöön liittyvät tekijät, asiakkaan tarpeiden huomiointi sekä kätilöön, henkilökunnan ammattitaitoon ja tiedon realistisuuteen liittyvät tekijät, valmennukseen liittyvät odotukset sekä valmennuksesta saatu hyöty. Opinnäytetyön tuloksista voidaan päätellä haastateltavien olleen pääasiassa tyytyväisiä Haikaranpesän valmennuksen laatuun. Haikaranpesän järjestämän perhevalmennuksen merkitys koettiin tärkeäksi yleistietopaketiksi synnytyksestä ja lapsivuodeajasta sekä tutustumiseksi ennalta osastoon. Tulosten perusteella huomion kiinnittäminen valmennusympäristöön, valmennuksen sisältöön ja uusien palveluiden kehittäminen olisi tulevaisuudessa tärkeä
