Programas de Variedades na TV e Entretenimento: Investigando o Rastro dessas Relações

Este artigo analisa a relação entre programas de variedades televisivos e a categoria do entretenimento, considerando a história da televisão brasileira uma trilha capaz de iluminar a análise cultural. Com base na identificação dos vínculos entre a produção televisiva, na fase inicial de implantação da televisão brasileira, e as práticas de outras esferas culturais, como o teatro e o circo, o artigo observa a constituição do entretenimento como categoria televisiva. A análise realizada aqui é filiada aos estudos culturais, em suas vertentes britânica e latina, utilizando o mapa das mediações, de Jesús Martín-Barbero, e as noções de elementos residuais, dominantes e emergentes, de Raymond Williams.

Focused on the articulation between the maternal figure and the political action of women/mothers who combat the murder of young Black men, cover of the third print edition of Revista Afirmativa, discussed in this paper, sparks a dialectical link between life and death, against the genocide of Black people. In the materiality of its composition, the illustration constitutes the potency of living female bodies engaged in combating Black youth genocide, subverting the discourse that frames it as an author of violence. This paper investigates how such process forms communicability that performs political existences capable of tensioning the police logic of the modern State, revealing structures of feeling that are upheld by an idea of the collective to institute other ways of existing.Centrada na articulação entre a figura materna e a ação política de mulheres/mães que atuam contra o assassinato de jovens negros, a capa da terceira edição impressa da Revista Afirmativa, examinada neste artigo, aciona um vínculo dialético entre vida e morte, contra o extermínio do povo preto. A ilustração, na materialidade de sua composição, constitui a potência de corpos femininos vivos no combate ao genocídio da juventude negra, subvertendo o discurso que a constitui como autora da violência. Investigamos como, deste modo, é conformada uma comunicabilidade que performa existências políticas capazes de tensionar a lógica policial do Estado moderno, deixando visíveis estruturas de sentimento que se sustentam numa ideia de coletivo para disputar outros modos de existir

Rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART): Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is associated with high in-hospital mortality. Alveolar recruitment followed by ventilation at optimal titrated PEEP may reduce ventilator-induced lung injury and improve oxygenation in patients with ARDS, but the effects on mortality and other clinical outcomes remain unknown. This article reports the rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART). Methods/Design: ART is a pragmatic, multicenter, randomized (concealed), controlled trial, which aims to determine if maximum stepwise alveolar recruitment associated with PEEP titration is able to increase 28-day survival in patients with ARDS compared to conventional treatment (ARDSNet strategy). We will enroll adult patients with ARDS of less than 72 h duration. The intervention group will receive an alveolar recruitment maneuver, with stepwise increases of PEEP achieving 45 cmH(2)O and peak pressure of 60 cmH2O, followed by ventilation with optimal PEEP titrated according to the static compliance of the respiratory system. In the control group, mechanical ventilation will follow a conventional protocol (ARDSNet). In both groups, we will use controlled volume mode with low tidal volumes (4 to 6 mL/kg of predicted body weight) and targeting plateau pressure <= 30 cmH2O. The primary outcome is 28-day survival, and the secondary outcomes are: length of ICU stay; length of hospital stay; pneumothorax requiring chest tube during first 7 days; barotrauma during first 7 days; mechanical ventilation-free days from days 1 to 28; ICU, in-hospital, and 6-month survival. ART is an event-guided trial planned to last until 520 events (deaths within 28 days) are observed. These events allow detection of a hazard ratio of 0.75, with 90% power and two-tailed type I error of 5%. All analysis will follow the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion: If the ART strategy with maximum recruitment and PEEP titration improves 28-day survival, this will represent a notable advance to the care of ARDS patients. No tempo do Zoio: matrizes midiáticas, temporalidades e YouTube

O canal do youtuber brasileiro Everson Zoio é usado como provocação analítica para o estudo sobre temporalidades, fluxos e matrizes midiáticas desta forma audiovisual que tem como principal dimensão material um corpo que oferece a autoflagelação ao consumo. Um corpo cuja performance constitui variadas figuras do tempo e aciona matrizes midiáticas e suas transformações. As mediações e mutações culturais, termos de Jesus Martín-Barbero, são apropriadas como dimensões de análise. O objetivo é investir numa abordagem comunicacional e historicizada das textualidades características do YouTube, neste caso, demonstrando que cada ação temporal engendrada a partir de Zoio é tensão/fricção de temporalidades outras e, também, condição de funcionamento da instância midiática

A workshop on asthma management programs and centers in Brazil: reviewing and explaining concepts

Objective: To report the results of a workshop regarding asthma management programs and centers (AMPCs) in Brazil, so that they can be used as a tool for the improvement and advancement of current and future AMPCs. Methods: The workshop consisted of five presentations and the corresponding group discussions. The working groups discussed the following themes: implementation of asthma management strategies; human resources needed for AMPCs; financial resources needed for AMPCs; and operational maintenance of AMPCs. Results: The workshop involved 39 participants, from all regions of the country, representing associations of asthma patients (n = 3), universities (n = 7), and AMPCs (n = 29). We found a direct relationship between a lack of planning and the failure of AMPCs. Based on the experiences reported during the workshop, the common assumptions about AMPCs in Brazil were the importance of raising awareness of managers; greater community participation; interdependence between primary care and specialized care; awareness of regionalization; and use of medications available in the public health system. Conclusions: Brazil already has a core of experience in the area of asthma management programs. The implementation of strategies for the management of chronic respiratory disease and their incorporation into health care system protocols would seem to be a natural progression. However, there is minimal experience in this area. Joint efforts by individuals with expertise in AMPCs could promote the implementation of asthma management strategies, thus speeding the creation of treatment networks, which might have a multiplier effect, precluding the need for isolated centers to start from zero

Neotropical freshwater fisheries : A dataset of occurrence and abundance of freshwater fishes in the Neotropics

The Neotropical region hosts 4225 freshwater fish species, ranking first among the world's most diverse regions for freshwater fishes. Our NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set is the first to produce a large-scale Neotropical freshwater fish inventory, covering the entire Neotropical region from Mexico and the Caribbean in the north to the southern limits in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay. We compiled 185,787 distribution records, with unique georeferenced coordinates, for the 4225 species, represented by occurrence and abundance data. The number of species for the most numerous orders are as follows: Characiformes (1289), Siluriformes (1384), Cichliformes (354), Cyprinodontiformes (245), and Gymnotiformes (135). The most recorded species was the characid Astyanax fasciatus (4696 records). We registered 116,802 distribution records for native species, compared to 1802 distribution records for nonnative species. The main aim of the NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set was to make these occurrence and abundance data accessible for international researchers to develop ecological and macroecological studies, from local to regional scales, with focal fish species, families, or orders. We anticipate that the NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set will be valuable for studies on a wide range of ecological processes, such as trophic cascades, fishery pressure, the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation, and the impacts of species invasion and climate change.
