On the cosmological effects of the Weyssenhoff spinning fluid in the Einstein-Cartan framework
The effects of non-Riemannian structures in Cosmology have been studied long
ago and are still a relevant subject of investigation. In the seventies, it was
discovered that singularity avoidance and early accelerated expansion can be
induced by torsion in the Einstein-Cartan theory. In this framework, torsion is
not dynamical and is completely expressed by means of the spin sources. Thus,
in order to study the effects of torsion in the Einstein-Cartan theory, one has
to introduce matter with spin. In principle, this can be done in several ways.
In this work we consider the cosmological evolution of the universe in the
presence of a constant isotropic and homogeneous axial current and the
Weyssenhoff spinning fluid. We analyse possible solutions of this model, with
and without the spinning fluid.Comment: Work presented at the 7th Alexander Friedmann International Seminar

The conclusion project "Culture and Identity of the Triângulo Mineiro in my Comics"
aims to present my production journey as a student and comic book artist. The comics from
the book "Three from the Triângulo" are presented as a practical part of this thesis, which
provides a visual and narrative analysis of the comics in the digital format. In order to
elucidate the inspirations and objectives of the elements present there, I also conduct a
comparative analysis between this book and the comic "The Awakening of Zé Fogueira" by
Rainer Petter. The analysis highlights some narrative similarities between the works, aiming
to demonstrate the process of shaping this regional identity in these productions, emphasizing
the elements of belonging to the local identity, given both by the character archetypes and by
the representation of the environments, culture, and traditions of the cities of Araguari and
A análise aponta algumas
Disease Localization in Multilayer Networks
We present a continuous formulation of epidemic spreading on multilayer
networks using a tensorial representation, extending the models of monoplex
networks to this context. We derive analytical expressions for the epidemic
threshold of the SIS and SIR dynamics, as well as upper and lower bounds for
the disease prevalence in the steady state for the SIS scenario. Using the
quasi-stationary state method we numerically show the existence of disease
localization and the emergence of two or more susceptibility peaks, which are
characterized analytically and numerically through the inverse participation
ratio. Furthermore, when mapping the critical dynamics to an eigenvalue
problem, we observe a characteristic transition in the eigenvalue spectra of
the supra-contact tensor as a function of the ratio of two spreading rates: if
the rate at which the disease spreads within a layer is comparable to the
spreading rate across layers, the individual spectra of each layer merge with
the coupling between layers. Finally, we verified the barrier effect, i.e., for
three-layer configuration, when the layer with the largest eigenvalue is
located at the center of the line, it can effectively act as a barrier to the
disease. The formalism introduced here provides a unifying mathematical
approach to disease contagion in multiplex systems opening new possibilities
for the study of spreading processes.Comment: Revised version. 25 pages and 18 figure
Higher derivative quantum gravity near four dimensions
We investigate the role of the Gauss-Bonnet term for the n = 4 and n = 4-e renormalization group, for both conformal and general versions of the theory. The cancellation of the quantum effects of the Gauss-Bonnet term in the n = 4 limit represents an efficient test for the correctness of previous calculations and also resolves two long-standing problems concerning quantum corrections in quantum gravity. In the case of n = 4-e renormalization group there is a number of new nontrivial fixed points, that may indicate to a rich nonperturbative structure of the theory. At the same time, if we do not treat e as a small parameter, the renormalization group is spoiled by an extensive gauge fixing ambiguity.
BACKGROUND:
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) were initially introduced into the world of gastroenterology as purely diagnostic procedures. With progressive evolution of intervention, both these techniques conquered fields in the treatment of many conditions that had once been exclusively surgical domains. Nowadays, more and more clinical situations have an indication to perform both EUS and ERCP, and these two techniques are frequently required at the same time for the same patient. More than competitors, ERCP and EUS are truly complementary, with great ability for mutual aid. They share their main indications, equipment, accessories, and main technical gestures.
OBJECTIVES AND METHODS:
We review the major indications to perform both techniques, sequentially or complementarily, describe the common things that these two techniques essentially share, and discuss the ERCP-EUS single session. Also, the issues of learning curves and education of upcoming biliopancreatic endoscopists are highlighted.
CONCLUSION:
In recent years the complementation between ECRP and EUS has been growing both from a diagnostic and a therapeutic point of view, allowing optimization of the use of these techniques and the creation of a more systematized approach of patients with biliopancreatic pathology. Endoscopists with experience in both techniques will be increasingly important, suggesting a parallel formation in the training plans of future endoscopists with interest in the area.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
entendimento do assunto
Dysphagia in a young female patient: it’s not always that simple
A 42-year- old female patient was referred to our gastroenterology department with a 4-month history of weekly symptoms of dysphagia for solids and liquids. The patient also reported occasional symptoms of food impaction and heartburn. She denied nausea, vomiting, weight loss or a recent change in bowel habits. The patient was not under any medication. Medical or surgical history was unremarkable. There was no family history of gastrointestinal cancer. Physical examination was normal, and laboratory tests did not reveal anaemia or other abnormalities. She underwent an oesophagogastroduodenoscopy, and the oesophagus is shown in figure 1. Biopsies were performed in the upper and lower parts of the oesophagus and the result is shown in figure 2. Macroscopically and histologically, the stomach was normal. On the same day,
the patient underwent a high-resolution manometry (HRM) (Medtronic 36-channel solid-state catheter) with 10 supine liquid swallows (5 mL water each) with the following findings (figure 3).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an entity characterized by a platelet count of less than 100 × 109/L in the absence of other causes of thrombocytopenia, such as viral infections, rheumatic diseases, or drugs. Grave’s disease is also an autoimmune condition in which thrombocytopenia is often observed. Moreover, in the literature, many reports show a marked interference of the thyroid dysfunction (mainly hyperthyroidism) in the control of thrombocytopenia. Although this issue still remains debatable, the authors report the case of a young woman with a previous diagnosis of ITP with a brilliant initial response to corticotherapy. Some years after this diagnosis, the patient presented thyrotoxicosis due to Grave’s disease and the thrombocytopenia relapsed, but this time there was no response to the glucocorticoids. Only after the radioiodine I-131 thyroid ablation the control of thrombocytopenia was achieved. The authors call attention to this overlap and for testing thyroid function in every patient with an unexpected negative response to corticotherapy
