    Get PDF
This paper presents a laboratory session of embedded systems imparted in the Computer Science degree using Kanban, a project management methodology. In the laboratory session different microcontroller families are used for reading several sensor types, wireless communications and motor control. This session is focused like a project in which the students have to complete the task previously described using Kanban. The project consist on implementing a mobile robot that is handled using a wireless controller. The system is divided in three parts: the controller device that is designed using an Arduino microcontroller to read two analogical joysticks used by the user, the mobile robot that uses a STM32 microcontroller with a RTOS (Real Time Operating System) to read the sensors attached to the robot and to handle the motor controller for a DC motor to control the velocity and, finally, a servo motor to change the robot direction. Some 2.4GHz radio modules of the XBee Pro Serie Z2B are used to implement the wireless communication. Finally a C# WPF Windows application is implemented using .NET framework, which collects the information from on-board sensors. An XBee module is plugged in the computer where the application runs using a virtual communication port (VCP). To plan the project under the Kanban methodology, an online free tool called Trello is used. Trello lets the user create different panels in which cards can be added and moved between different columns that denote the state of each card. Cards allow to add several participants and a due date. In this laboratory session the students have to learn several development environments which presents an extra difficulty. The laboratory session has been divided in several practical sessions and the students have been very motivated during every of them because at the end they obtain a functional robot which can be extended with new sensors

Hardware Security Modules (HSM) serve as a hardware based root of trust that offers physical protection while adding a new security layer in the system architecture. When combined with decentralized access technologies as Blockchain, HSM offers robustness and complete reliability enabling secured end-toend mechanisms for authenticity, authorization and integrity. This work proposes an ef cient integration of HSM and Blockchain technologies focusing on, mainly, public-key cryptography algorithms and standards, that result crucial in order to achieve a successful combination of the mentioned technologies to improve the overall security in Industrial IoT systems. To prove the suitability of the proposal and the interaction of an IoT node and a Blockchain network using HSM a proof of concept is developed. Results of time performance analysis of the prototype reveal how promising the combination of HSMs in Blockchain environments is.Infineon Technologies AGEuropean Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program through the Cyber Security 4.0: Protecting the Industrial Internet of Things (C4IIoT) 833828FEDER/Junta de Andalucia-Consejeria de Transformacion Economica, Industria, Conocimiento y Universidades B-TIC-588-UGR2

The concern for the rights of people with disabilities is not an issue unrelated to Labor Law. From the ban on firing a worker with a supervening disability to permissions for medical treatments, the fact is that Labor Law has provided various special protections. However, recent regulations provide additional protection for people with disabilities: The New Labor Procedure Act and the Regulation of the General Law on Persons with Disabilities. In this interview, the subject of the duties imposed to the employer is treated, as well as their implications on labor relations.

A City Profile of Malaga: The Role of the Port-City Border throughout Historical Transformations

    Get PDF
The relationships Malaga has established with its port have changed over the centuries, conjuring up a variety of scenarios and circumstances. The past and present are closely linked phenomena in this case study where the porosity of the port‐city fabric has marked the city’s development and constitutes a key issue in the current and future challenges it faces. Malaga provides a particularly interesting example of a post‐industrial city that has reopened its port to its inhabitants’ acclaim while maintaining port activity. However, the growth tourism has seen in recent years has come to dominate the local economy. Cruise ships have taken on a significant role and have brought about important changes in the dynamics and flows between the port and the city, unsettling the balance between the two. This profile explores port‐city development through the lens of boundaries and flows, demonstrating how their dynamics have determined Malaga’s spatial, functional, and social development over time and how they continue to do so to this day. This article reviews the transformations the city has undergone and its future opportunities to achieve a balanced and sustainable port‐city relationship

INTRACYCLIC SPEED FLUCTUATIONS OF THE CENTER OF MASS AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE INDEX OF COORDINATION - A PILOT STUDY

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to analyse the relationship between the intracyclic speed fluctuations (dv) of the center of mass (CM), in the x,y,z axes, and the Index of Coordination (IdC), as well as to assess the general stroking parameters during the 200 m front crawl event. A good level male swimmer performed the 200 m front crawl at maximum intensity, being video taped by six cameras (2 above and 4 under the water). One complete stroke cycle was analysed in each 50 m of the 200 m test, using the APASystem (Ariel Dynamics Inc). IdC appeared to be well related to dv, both in the horizontal and vertical axes. It was also observed, during the 200 m effort, that the IdC, dv, stroke rate and stroke length changed during the exercise

Investigating the Role of the Retinoblastoma Protein in the Expression of Immunosuppressive Factors

Lung cancer remains one of the deadliest types of cancer, causing approximately 160,000 deaths per year in the US alone. Because of its poor detection techniques and highly invasive abilities, conventional treatments -such as radiation and chemotherapy- fail to improve long-term survival of patients. At the moment, the 5-year survival rate for all stages of lung cancer is only 16%. Recent breakthroughs in cancer research establish immunotherapy, which involves the stimulation of the immune system to target and attack cancer cells, as a highly promising alternative treatment against this deadly disease. However, the efficiency of this treatment varies on each subset of cancer. A more efficient therapeutic strategy should include the targeting of immunosuppressive factors along with key proteins that are responsible for lung tumor growth. A possible target is the Retinoblastoma protein (Rb). This well-known tumor suppressor regulates a diverse set of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and cell adhesion. Inactivation of Rb results in uncontrolled cell proliferation, which is a major driving force behind tumorigenesis. Recent findings suggest a new role for Rb in regulating immune system function. To further characterize this emerging role of Rb in immune function, the protein expression of PD-L1, PD1, OX-40, OX40L, B7-H3 and B7-H4 was analyzed via immunoblotting in Rb-activated and Rb-inactivated lung cancer cell lines. Our hypothesis is that Rb will affect the expression of these immunosuppressive factors in tumor cells. Preliminary results show that PD-L1 and OX-40 expression is correlated to Rb active status, while PD1 and OX40L are expressed when Rb is inactivated

Real-time detection of uncalibrated sensors using neural networks

    Get PDF
Nowadays, sensors play a major role in several fields, such as science, industry and everyday technology. Therefore, the information received from the sensors must be reliable. If the sensors present any anomalies, serious problems can arise, such as publishing wrong theories in scientific papers, or causing production delays in industry. One of the most common anomalies are uncalibrations. An uncalibration occurs when the sensor is not adjusted or standardized by calibration according to a ground truth value. In this work, an online machine-learning based uncalibration detector for temperature, humidity and pressure sensors is presented. This development integrates an artificial neural network as the main component which learns from the behavior of the sensors under calibrated conditions. Then, after being trained and deployed, it detects uncalibrations once they take place. The obtained results show that the proposed system is able to detect the 100% of the presented uncalibration events, although the time response in the detection depends on the resolution of the model for the specific location, i.e., the minimum statistically significant variation in the sensor behavior that the system is able to detect. This architecture can be adapted to different contexts by applying transfer learning, such as adding new sensors or having different environments by re-training the model with minimum amount of dataEuropean Union (UE). Ermakov-Lewis angles for one-parameter supersymmetric families of Newtonian free damping modes

    Get PDF
We apply the Ermakov-Lewis procedure to the one-parameter damped modes \tilde{y} recently introduced by Rosu and Reyes, which are related to the common Newtonian free damping modes y by the general Riccati solution [H.C. Rosu and M. Reyes, Phys. Rev. E 57, 4850 (1998), physics/9707019]. In particular, we calculate and plot the angle quantities of this approach that can help to distinguish these modes from the common y modesComment: 6 pages, twocolumn, 18 figs embedded, only first 9 publishe
