Students of Law are well advised to gain an understanding of legal
English for their legal career. Importantly, teaching units in legal English can
also contribute to an awareness of the complex interface between translators and
interpreters and the legal system. In this investigation, the potential of teaching
activities to educate future lawyers in the intricacies of these professions is unlocked.
An initial questionnaire with open-ended questions was administered to students
studying for the Master’s Degree in Law and Legal Practice at the University of
Burgos, Spain. The questionnaire explored knowledge of the profession of legal and
sworn translators and interpreters. The results revealed low levels of familiarization
with the translation profession among students and they did not even know
about the regulations that govern their work. Different classroom activities were
conducted to educate and inform future lawyers about the tasks and roles of these
language professionals. By the end of the course, a qualitative change in students’
perceptions of the work of legal and sworn translators and interpreters was evident.
The introduction of foreign language courses and comparative law in legal training
with specific activities focused on legal and sworn translation and interpreting can
therefore be of immense assistance in crystallizing an awareness of the role of
specialized linguists in the legal profession.
Vocal piano accompaniment: A constant research towards emancipation (2)
This is the second and last article in the series dedicated to the investigation of the evolution of vocal piano
accompaniment through history and the role-played by the piano in its relationship with the voice. If the previous chapter
focused from the beginnings of piano accompaniment to Franz Schubert, this one will take up again the analysis of the piano
part from the last lieder of Franz Schubert to Arnold Schoenberg. The research method used continues to be based on the
musical analysis of the piano part, addressing both issues of the piano itself and its link with the text and the vocal part. By
means of musical examples of different composers, the article investigates all those aspects that provide evidence of the change
in the role of the piano in the correspondence of the piano with the voice and its repercussion on the final result of the work. In
this way, we will look at the history of piano accompaniment for voice and see how the influence of Schubert's conception of
vocal piano accompaniment materializes in contemporary and later composers, as well as the crucial change in the history of
the piano as an accompanying instrument introduced by Schubert. The results and conclusions drawn from the evolution
presented in these two articles are presented at the end of the article, based on the different aspects involved in the musical
event, such as rhythm, harmony or texture
Los estados adultos de Nanomis y Spiritiops (Ephemeroptera: Baetidae)
The adult stages of Nanomis Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty and Spiritiops Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty are described for the first time based on reared material from Argentina and Brazil, respectively. They can be differentiated from the other adults of Baetidae by the following characters: Nanomis, hind wings with three longitudinal veins, second vein bifurcate; costal projection of the hind wings pointed, placed in the basal third of anterior margin; and forceps three-segmented, third segment rounded. Spiritiops, fore wings with paired and long marginal intercalary veins; hind wings with three complete longitudinal veins, and an incomplete small longitudinal vein; costal projection of hind wings pointed, broad at base and placed in the basal third of anterior margin; forceps three-segmented, second segment constricted and third segment elongate and narrowed.
Citrus are the most cultivated fruit crop worldwide. Modern citrus industry needs new bioproducts to overcome currently phytopathological threats, tolerate biotic and abiotic stresses and increase yield and quality. Commercial citrus trees are grafted plants, where rootstocks are the hub of the most importantly horticultural and pathological traits. Mutualistic microbes present in root-associated communities (plant microbiome) have a great impact on host physiology and health, then providing a potential source of a variety of benefits for their host. The present study was devoted to assembly the rhizospheric citrus microbiome of two citrus rootstock genotypes grown in the same soil for over 20 years. We not found a significant genotype-dependent fine-tune of bacterial communities, since any citrus rootstock genotype selected an specific bacterial community. Nevertheless, some differentially abundant OTUs were found in higher proportions in Carrizo citrange, suggesting that this citrus rootstock genotype has higher affinity for certain bacteria. A “core-citrus” microbiome was established by selecting those OTUs shared among plants within and across genotypes (high adaptation) after 20 years of plant cultivation. Furthermore, host-selection (rhizosphere effect) was evaluated for each “core-citrus” OTU by comparing its abundance in roots vs. bulk soil bacterial communities. In parallel, an extensive census of the cultivable microbiome was performed to collect a large number of rhizospheric citrus isolates. Crossing 16S rRNA gene sequences from citrus isolates with those counterparts host-selected OTUs sequences from the “core-citrus” microbiome members, we linked metataxonomic data to microbe selection, allowing us to provide a citrus-adapted and host-selected rhizospheric bacterial collection (rcitrusBC) as a source to mine for plant beneficial microbes for future biotechnological applications required for the citrus industry.Universidad de Málaga.
